    Road Works 2020

I've now seen an official letter. A149 Closed at Wayford Bridge for deck resurfacing / waterproofing, total closure for 3 weeks from the 2nd November they will doing 24 hour working to do the task.. I suspect not a good time to stay at the hotel or those floating holiday homes.. I wouldn't be surprised if the are navigation restrictions although that's not mentioned in the letter.

Yep, I'd just come on here to report that, though I've not yet found it on any official list of coming road works, it might be a bit to early. it's supposedly for re-waterproofing the deck. The cones and signs I'd previously reported have now disappeared.
  3. A little point, Norfolk has one of the lowest county crime rates 50 per 1000, in the UK 66 per 1000, inside that, North Norfolk in which most of the northern broads are, including Richardson's yard, has just about lowest the crime rates of Norfolk 36 per 1000 people. Most Norfolk crime being in Norwich and Great Yarmouth. Even Norwich is in the lowest 10 crime rates of any city with a university.

That Wayford bridge area where they did some test borings on. The Bridge itself is now surrounded by cones and turned over signs. It suggests that, what ever they are doing is about to start, and with those test borings, It might well be something quite major. Some of the signs indicate it will be single lane light controlled working.
  5. Most of my childhood was spent in military Accommodation, luckily red leading the door step was not one of the military requirements. The S.W.O / R.S.M would have loved it though... I suppose my memories are moving, Bath (which I don't remember), Cyprus, Northern Ireland, The Outer Hebridies, Inverness, Central Scotland. Very different schools and places..
  6. There was a large section on Countryfile on the 1000 Acre extension to the Carlton Marshes farm land to marsh.. All very well, but not very green, that's 100 acres of food generation that will have to be imported..
  7. The Swan, to me, is an impersonal typical Pubco place, unlike years ago, when it was frequented by the sailing clubs (Horning and Snowflakes) and the managers weren't averse to lock ins, when there was a legal pub closing time requirement. The Ferry when run by TFI to me was too much costa del Horning, I've not been back since. So under the previous managers the New inn was favourite, I've not had cause to visit there since covid..
  8. Most parts of the broads you won't be touching bottom, even then soft mud, the glass will have sunk down into it. I've been sailing 40 years on the broads been in many times, seen many people in the water including the children playing at the sailing club. Every rope you handle on a boat has been in the water. I have yet to hear of anyone catching anything from the river that doesn't wriggle.

They are just about to start connecting Ludham to the water tower with 3Km of new piping, expect road works in the area.. this is to stop taking water from Catfield Fen. Water instead will come from Norwich.. I think that means more water flowing into Barton Broad..
  10. Nationally Number 6 in the most profitable speed cameras is the A1067 at Taverham, with 19,398 tickets issued, raising £1.9 Million in fines.. in 2000, much of the money from speed cameras went into local councils pockets, Since 2010 they only get a reduced amount, the rest going to HMG. So since they are not making so much money is why some cameras haven't been commissioned As in the A149 and some other areas areas they have been turned off because they cost money to run..
  11. There are now signs on the A149 appealing for witnesses to the accident.
  12. The active camera I think is the camera at the Potter end, it appears to have lights and various other fittings that the others don't
  13. Most of the speed cameras although connected up have never been commissioned to be used. I'll be using most from Cats common to Stalham in just over an hour on the way home from work, I use Stalham to Sutton going to the sailing club or Potter.. The route I know well.. Most of the accidents along that section particularly at Tescos are caused by impatient or not seeing oncoming traffic, drivers pulling out on to the A149
  14. I'm getting confused with all these changes..
  15. Hardly surprising, I believe they are owned by the same people, Len Funnel and Family..
  16. It's 50 from Sutton round to Cats Common.
  17. When Tesco was going to expand onto the abattoir site, one of the planning conditions was building a Roundabout on the A149. That was lost, first because to objections to the expansion. Second when Tesco found a big black hole in the accounts and had to sell the site. If ever MacCarthy and Stone get restarted on the abattoir retirement home, when it's finished the access point almost opposite the Tesco warehouse entrance will cause more chaos.. The Accident was on the A149 a 50 mph limit, at that junction with the road that actually goes past Tescos. You'd never get an artic going fast enough to jackknife outside Tescos itself.
  18. and a lot of them were marine magazines, but the guy lived somewhere like Birmingham, and had never had a boat or access to one..
  19. I've got my own 30 year + glut, but at least I've read them..
  20. I had to make up a bandana , my sweat was dripping into the varnish over the weekend..
  21. The name Morning Cloud on the boat should have given you a clue! I wonder what happened to his boats. In later years he lived in the grounds of Salisbury Cathedral, with a copper sat in in a tiny shed in the garden. I used to pass his house to get to an aunts just round the corner..
  22. I'd have been extremely tempted to drive off with their boat still attached... And left it on the other side of the river...
  23. you forgot: Lobsters, cos they are almost always red and sunburnt, And the local one... furriners, as in anyone from outside the village
