  1. Beautiful photos Jay. People who only ever visit in the busier months, especially the school holidays, are certainly missing something very special. :)
  2. Edited to change my mind ... torn between two places but I'm going for the Yare coming up to Langley Dyke?
  3. I saw one of the peregrines there yesterday afternoon. Many thanks for the updated link. This one is always fascinating to follow.
  4. Beautiful photos as always. It certainly was a lovely morning. :)
  5. Lovely photos. Interesting to see that looks like a couple of hire boats at Acle and Ranworth.
  6. Lovely photos. As for the pile in the middle of the room ... we pretty much dump everything on the bed or on the seating in our eagerness to be away from the boatyard asap when we hire. And then once we've cruised for a couple of hours and got that first mooring done, the first cup of coffee is way more important that unpacking. And once I've sat there for a while then my reluctance grows to move and get anything done! Looking forward to hearing where you go today.
  7. I'm also hoping that perhaps there will eventually be a new hire business on the southern side although it doesn't mention that. My impression from what I have read of their first season running out of Acle has been that they care about good customer service. So it will be nice to see if they can grow and I am interested to see what their new builds turn out to be like.
  8. I know that there is nothing different that I can say to anyone else but wanted to post anyway. It's been an epic few days following the progress of Independence and all the crew. Someone at work this morning asked me what I had done over the weekend ... they were quite amazed when I explained and showed them the marine traffic website! Robin it is always a pleasure to be allowed to share your adventures and I can only try to imagine how hard these last few days have been for you but look forward to seeing what happens next. Griff thank you so much for all your updates, photos and videos on this voyage. You have kept us all so well informed and I will read with interest any further thoughts you share with us. And to all of Team Indy I'm sure that you know that we've all loved following every step of the journey here. I hope that you all get safely home tonight .... and we will await tomorrow to see what the new day brings.
  9. Almost past the corner of Kent already ... I think I know the first website that I'll be loading on my browser at work this morning ... it had better not be blocked by group policy!! Good luck and safe travels Team Indy!
  10. Was someone asking about saving the videos using Chrome? I'm using Chrome on a Mac and it's automatically putting the videos into my Downloads folder. Don't know if that helps at all.
  11. I can only echo what everyone else has already said. Many thanks to Robin and to Griff for posting so many updates and photos and videos. Great to be able to follow the adventure. Stay safe and have a good day Team Indy.
  12. Brilliant to sign in this evening and catch all the updates here and on Facebook. Great photos Griff.
  13. Enjoying watching the videos and will catch up on number 8 tomorrow. What a fantastic group of people you have had helping you Robin. Good luck to you all for the trip to Norfolk. :)
  14. Really interesting to read your account Griff. Thank you for taking the time to write it all up and post for us. :)
  15. Welcome along Bill ... from a North Londoner who migrated to Essex!
  16. Ditto to all the above ... Happy Birthday to Peter And in memory of Iain
  17. I see there is a training element to one or two of the jobs. If I lived in the area I could very well be tempted to apply for a couple of the posts. The company I work for allows everyone one paid day per year to do voluntary work somewhere ... I don't think that's quite what they're looking for! ;)
  18. Just goes to prove that I was listening to the wrong radio station ... I'm rather partial to LBC these days!
  19. That's great news and I wish Kyle Edmond very good luck and success. I read something about him a few days ago but couldn't help thinking that he hasn't had a lot of coverage. I hope that the BBC are going to postpone all other scheduling to show his match!
  20. Even though I'm not in the market for a boat at the moment it is so interesting to read how other people get on and the advice given. Please do keep sharing with us. :)
  21. I can see that there is a thread on Facebook about the Countryfile Magazine Awards which seems to have reignited the topic by including the Norfolk Broads in the National Park of the Year category. Like some other folk I don't tend to get involved in this discussion because I don't know enough about the legalities of why the Broads should or shouldn't be termed a National Park. To the average tourist looking for a boating holiday it simply means an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, another term that I don't know if you can officially apply to the Broads!
  22. Happy Birthday Katie! Hope you've had a good day.
  23. I was talking to someone yesterday who asked me where I would move to if I could. Norfolk ... near the Broads, was my answer. But wouldn't what you love about it wear off through becoming everyday he asked? Not at all, I replied, the pace of life seems slower and more relaxed. But where would you go on holiday? I wouldn't ever need to go on holiday again, was my reply. Actually not in a position to move away from Essex right now but we have enjoyed all our time in the caravan at Lowestoft. It's not on the water but it's close by ... and the sea is yards away. The caravan, incidentally, is now completely winterised. It's been fully drained down, moisture traps left around the place, cushions vacuum-packed and stored away, fridge freezer defrosted and switched off with doors slightly open, and one or two other bits and pieces done.
