  1. I'll check those ideas out, thanks chaps. Still works fine on an ASUS tablet that I have. Only the phone that's a problem!
  2. I've been using my iPhone quite a lot to read the forum this week. I use Safari as a browser on my phone rather than an app. But I'm finding that even though I have ticked the box to remember me on sign in, and am not signing out, I am having to sign in every time that I go to the site. It never used to do this and in fact the site is left open in the browser while minimised so I'm not even closing the page. Any ideas?
  3. Welcome to the forum Jono. Look forward to hearing about your visits to the Broads. Or are you lucky enough to live in the area?
  4. The weather really has been appalling today. I had hoped to pop over to Oulton Broad this morning and would have said hello if you were still there Simon. But it was bitterly cold in the wind. We stayed in the caravan this morning, had a quick walk along the front and then drove back to Essex earlier than we usually do. Hope that you get moored up safely soon for the night.
  5. My condolences to you Simon. Hard to make sense of that kind of sudden news.
  6. For those that mentioned Jimmy Young, my mum sang backing vocals on an old 78 record that he recorded. And for those that mentioned Donny Osmond ... I still go to his concerts when he tours over here. :)
  7. There are a number of sites where you can look this up but I like this one. https://www.mybirthdayhits.co.uk/ It gives you the number ones across the years on all your birthdays, not just the one when you were born. On the day that I was born it was I Can't Stop Loving You by Ray Charles but when you get to the 70s, that's my decade, and there were some great tunes hitting the top spot on my birthday. Who remembers Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep by Middle of the Road and Welcome Home by Peters and Lee? But best of all we have Puppy Love by Donny Osmond. That makes me very happy.
  8. Highly recommend Langley Dyke if you want some peace and quiet. We always find it a welcome relief after Beccles and Loddon. Have a great time.
  9. Happiness is not a destination ... if you think of it as something to be achieved then you may never arrive.
  10. Not sure whether anyone else has already flagged this somewhere. Countryfile tomorrow at 7pm is looking at crafts in Norfolk. Blurb from the BBC website is as follows. Anita Rani is in Norfolk meeting the people keeping some of the UK's vanishing trades alive. Her first stop is Horsey Windpump which has been restored to full working glory by Tim Whiting, one of the last millwrights in the country. Next she joins the reed cutters making a living on the Norfolk Broads, where she gets to try her hand at cutting. Then she joins Nigel Ford, a man on a mission to restore all of Norfolk's ancient milestones. Finally, she meets David Wolstenholme who makes cricket bats by hand, a skill that's listed by the Heritage Crafts Association as being critically endangered, before she takes her place at the crease to put the bat to the test.
  11. Wonderfully descriptive writing, an absolute pleasure to read. We were in the area over Easter although not on a boat, and I remember only too well how the weather came and went, sunshine and showers and rather on the chilly side.

    1 Week Today

Langley Dyke is a lovely quiet mooring. No pub there but it depends what you're looking for and how far you want to go. We have used it as a first night stay from Brundall.
  13. We visited The Pleasure Boat Inn and Hickling Broad by car ourselves last summer when we were staying at the caravan. Will have to add Horsey Gap to my list for this year. Enjoying seeing your photos Jay ... are you finding that arriving by car is just not the same as arriving by boat? :)
  14. Wonderful to read. So different to anything I've ever done. Two hours from Essex to Norfolk ... no passport required. That's my kind of trip and I often admire the dedication of everyone who has to come so much further for their Broads Fix!
  15. The other side to this is that as a returning hirer it is nice to have a yard that puts out reserved signs early in the day to guarantee you somewhere to moor if you decide to go back to the yard on the last evening or quite early on the morning that you are due back. We have turned up to other yards only to find no space because other hire craft have moored there. That can be annoying when it's your home yard and you need to get in. At least we know that we won't have that problem at NBD.
  16. Just to add that we have seen private boats allowed to stay overnight on the front at Ferry Marina. They do ask any visiting craft, private or hire, to be gone by 8am on a turnaround day. The water hoses are taken in overnight but while the staff are there you can use them for a small charge. And likewise they allow you to plug into their electric posts which they leave on 24/7. Seems very fair and it's a nice location for staying overnight.
  17. Wonderful write up Helen and I enjoyed seeing all your photos. I can't remember too much about the storage but I think it's quite a small galley, small fridge with a freezer box, several cupboards but some of them obviously have all the pots and pans and plates and mugs and glasses in them. Best thing would be to take a look at the video on Ferry Marina's site. I tend to take enough food for maybe the first three or four days and then rely on finding some shops if we need anything. We tend to eat out half the time and eat tinned food or salads for the rest. I don't attempt proper cooking ... it's a holiday! If there's not much storage then I just pile things up on the worktop space! :)
  18. Enjoying seeing your photos ... and yourselves and Seren. :) Such amazing detail. Did you say that you write a log while you're away? I always think that I will remember what we did and where we went but sometimes struggle to put it all together once we're back. These holiday tales are such a good record of what we've all done. You also sound as if you had a fair idea of what you wanted to do while you were away this time.
  19. I will look forward to reading about whatever you decide to do with your next few days on board. I did see the boat on the Wherry webcam but missed your departure. Always interesting to see what's going on. I'm sure that we will get back to Oulton Broad at some point this summer.
  20. Welcome to the forum Malc. Hope your move goes well. I'm sure that everyone here will enjoy hearing how things go. :)
  21. Wonderful write-up Helen, loving your photos. Spectacular sunrises. And you're getting into the moorings that I'm still trying to make. I need to do some better planning to get under Wroxham Bridge down to Coltishall one day, and to arrive at the right time to grab that mooring at Irstead. The southern rivers look amazing and I must also plan to cross Breydon and get back down there next time we book a holiday afloat. :)
  22. Taken from the Trust's Facebook page. It does appear that there are now only 3 eggs at the Norwich Peregrine nest. Trawling back through the camera footage, it seems that on 29 March the female ('GA') stood on an egg and possibly punctured it at 14.07. Once an egg is cracked, or damaged in some way, it is almost certain that the female will consume that egg to regain some of the large amount of nutrients and energy she expended to produce it. For those who have been following this pair, you will know that this is only the second breeding season for this very young and inexperienced bird. A similar thing happened last year and she has yet to learn that she needs to be very careful with her talons whilst near her eggs.
  23. Thanks for flagging this. I enjoyed the first series so will be interested to take a look.
  24. Great photos Jay. I think you said somewhere that they are taken on your phone? It's amazing the quality of cameras on phones now. Enjoying following your trip. :)
  25. Very sad news ... we come to feel we know each other so well in a community like this. And when we lose someone it really does feel like a loss of a friend even though we may not have spoken or met. RIP Richard and best wishes to his family.
