  1. I contacted Richardson’s who advised the air draft as 8’6. Much as I could be tempted to hire this one next month I think it could be four days of cruising the Ant which I could easily do but it might feel a little restrictive. Low tide is at non cruising times of day.
  2. Enjoying your holiday tale. The Island may not offer any facilities but if we don’t need them then we prefer it to playing sardines on the Staithe. And it’s often been our back up plan when other moorings are busy. Love it there.
  3. Shame about all the shenanigans to get to a sensible answer.
  4. Back to the OP’s question, was everyone ok? Was this a boat out on hire?
  5. Good or bad, and I'm keeping my thoughts to myself on this one, as both a hirer and a resident ... here's a snapshot of where we all love to be ... out on the river. There hasn't been too much opportunity to be out with my camera this year so it's really short ... but please like and subscribe if you want to keep up with my occasional releases.
  6. Wishing you all the best for your recovery. 🤗
  7. I find the noise irritating and intrusive sometimes. But there’s no denying that the footage can be really interesting.

    My Day

We want to make changes to our garden too so I’ll form an orderly queue behind Malcolm for that quote. Looks amazing Kate. What a great job. Hope your next trip goes ok. And you’re soon back to some peace and quiet on the boat.
  9. We left our car with them a couple of times. There were no problems at all. Cars are left on site at most yards. We also left keys at Ferry Marina as they wanted to be able to move the car if the road flooded.
  10. Just been looking at this boat from Richardson’s but I can’t find the air draft anywhere. Does anyone know what it’s likely to be? I’ve looked at info on similar boats but not sure this is the same make and model. I’ve never hired this style of boat before. It’s a bit like the question we had about Gleaming Light. In October with low tide being at non-cruising hours will I have any problems with Ludham Bridge.

    My Day

Went for coffee at the Granary at Ranworth Staithe this morning. Very reasonably priced and good quality, two scones and coffees for under £10. Arrived at 10.06. Only a couple of spaces left and mostly hire boats that were there. I couldn’t make out whether they had all just arrived or were overstaying. The rangers were nowhere to be seen.
  12. Sounds like a sensible decision. We had Zircon Emblem a few years back. Spent a week on the north but without doing the Ant. Still had a great time but feel a bit the same about wanting to get under Ludham Bridge.
  13. These videos are a great watch. And it’s lovely to see you and Shiela again.
  14. That must be a real blow Cal to your local community. B&M were not likely to want the Lowestoft Wilko’s as they opened a store round the corner only a few years ago. I think that was on a site that had previously been BHS. I do wonder though whether Wilko’s closing will give the local council the chance to finally clear up what is left of the old car park that linked to this building.
  15. An interesting article I thought. 2260 boaters warned for speeding in less than three months https://www.lowestoftjournal.co.uk/news/23774621.2-260-boaters-norfolk-broads-issued-speeding-warnings/
  16. I have just read that Wilko’s in Lowestoft has been confirmed as closing next week. That’s a real blow to the town centre. We often shopped there and always got what we needed. I feel for all the people whose jobs will go. https://www.lowestoftjournal.co.uk/news/23774393.disappointment-closure-wilko-store-lowestoft
  17. The issue of noise from the heating is an interesting one. I tend to think that if you’re boating at a colder time of year then it’s to be expected.
  18. I haven’t hired that boat but have hired similar in mid October. We’ve always had high water levels at that time and didn’t go up the Ant because of it. That’s not to say we couldn’t have done if we had been able to time it for low tide but I didn’t want to chance it or be stuck to a timetable for two days just to get under the bridge.
  19. New electric charging points available in Roys car park in Hoveton. They’re situated near the jewellers and garden centre. https://www.roys.co.uk/ev-charging
  20. Sad news on Facebook that this restaurant is closing. Hope it’s ok to copy this here as it’s from their public page. Dear Guests, We have been struggling for a year now, because of energy prices, shortage of staff, and the cost of living crisis, like most businesses in the industry. We have been finally struck by an energy bill, which makes keeping the restaurant open impossible. Our last day of service will be on the 10th of September and will close down the restaurant until further notice from the 11th of September. Thank you for your support during these hard times we will miss you all.
  21. I never met Mike but I still feel a certain sadness at the news. I will also do my best to be there amongst my Friday Friends. That sounds like a good idea for the questions tomorrow Bern.
  22. Wow! Thanks for the great photos. I couldn’t get anything even close to that. Might have to try to think of a good spot if the weather stays clear this evening.
  23. That's really sad news. My thoughts are with Pat and his family and friends. The quiz room won't be the same without him. :(
  24. Lovely write up and photos Sam. Looking forward to hearing where your adventures take you.
  25. The annual convoy from Norwich to Pleasurewood Hills and back is tomorrow, Sunday 27th August. You can get all the details from the website if you either want to see it or want to avoid it. https://www.eastcoasttruckers.co.uk/ To quote from their site One of the region's major events of the summer is our Children's Convoy when we have around 80 trucks plus support vehicles and a police escort taking children with special needs to Pleasurewood Hills for the afternoon and then return through Great Yarmouth in the evening. With over a hundred vehicles in total, the convoy is indeed a spectacle to behold.
