  1. I know my stuff Robin and give advice what I am sure about If it means anything, I never advertise!
  2. The top left looks a bit strange, but as the Police have said, cctv has it's limitations and as the normal thief doesn't work a 9 to 5, a few percentage of thieves ever get convicted because all they need is gloves..
  3. But you have to appreciate Robin that I have been in this mechanical/electrical world for years and more likely to understand quicker than you. But I assume the work that you deal in would leave me well behind too, so I believe forums like this can bring all sorts of our working life together even if it does take time to understand.
  4. I have an Irish Staffy, so it would be nice to know what position he came in. He is 10 years old and I love him dearly, but he had to go in for an operation recently and it cost me dearly. But I have to say, he is worth every penny and much more.
  5. But a boat yard can be as good as a garage, if you are not mechanically minded, what comes out of their mouth can be rocket science to you and money in their pocket to them.
  6. I do have alot sympathy for Robin as many of the questions we ask are out of his arena of knowledge. I appreciate he is trying to learn but even in the boating world, there are many who will be eager to take his money through his lack of know how on how a boat works.
  7. But sometimes I have read that certain people have broken the law numerous times by having no insurance, tax or MOT, and still no custodial sentence has been served. Perhaps the magistrates think that the minimum amount out of their benefits is going to hit them where it hurts most.
  8. I can really understand how this make you feel like getting out the baseball bat, or for you the shotgun! But my van got broken into a few years ago and they made off with a couple of my drills and a cheap test meter. For me though I buy cheap drills like Ryobi which are good enough for what I need them for, but aftersales on the black market won't buy them a decent round at the pub. The next day after the burglary though is very much an inconvenience, so with an alarm, steel mesh on the rear windows, van safe and never leaving your van open for the world to see does help.
  9. Unless I missed it in a post Robin, I would love to know what the fuel fault was as you said the labour charges would not be high. Also I assume that gravity supplies to all 3 fuel tanks and what is the diameter of the connecting pipes, as I assume most of it is in rubber?.
  10. I'm sure and can confidently say it's a big No No to that question. I know I'm not qualified in that area but experience working with heating engineers would suggest to me it's not allowed anymore.
  11. You do have to have a little telepathy when overtaking sallies, as I thought the rule of thumb was they pointed to where they want you to go. But a few years back this bloke pointed, I went to overtake but he was pointing at the direction he was going to take. As a hirer I must try harder.
  12. That takes me back to a question I heard many years ago. Picture this, a man driving a truck laden with birds comes across a bridge and notices that his truck is slightly overweight for what the bridge can handle. If he was to whack the aviary's he was carrying to make the birds fly, would that reduce the load he was carrying?
  13. Since the Royal Navy is linked to Parliament, leaks are inevitable. I know, I'll get my coat.
  14. I do wonder that when buying this boat, your heart has over ruled your head and your posts simply consist of spending out money and you haven't even left port yet! We all know the problems of buying 2nd hand, and I'm sure the boat scenario is far worse than a car, but you seem to have a bottomless pit of cash to supplement this. I do like your updates, and hope that you do venture out to sea to fulfil your dreams on your own boat. All the best Robin.
  15. You are never alone on this forum.
  16. You have such a talent Grendel and one to be proud of.
  17. If the electrician has done his job properly and tested the insulation resistance of the supply cable and time testing/fault current on the RCD, the fault that may occur outside of this is beyond his scope. Marina's have an obligation to provide a safe supply and I wouldn't be surprised that insurance came into it, but how many boat owners have their electrical installations tested yearly?
  18. I doubt that the problem is in the installation as these have to be inspected and tested yearly and a condition report has to be given. I would expect that the problem is with the boat owner, as it doesn't take much to trip out an RCD with a lot of condensation alive at this time of year on boats. Also with a possible 16 amp mcb protecting the supply, a kettle and a fan heater would be all that needed to trip it. They could mount the trips on the posts, but being made of plastic, the heavy handed public would all that be needed to break them. So in the eye of the authorities, it's a pain in the back side to keep someone on hand to reset and more effective to keep the protective devices under lock and key.
  19. You really can't make this stuff up.
  20. Obviously you must stagger around back to your house after 12pm, as that's when they go off.
  21. Well if airbnb takes over, just lookout for secret cameras if I read the recent news on this sort of thing rightly.
  22. Well since my time on the boards involves a good intake of the delicious ales that are served on the boards, they could take a video of the whole scenario and I couldn't careless what my mooring neighbours might be thinking.
  23. You mean to say his back order of Noel Edmunds jumpers has come through? Thank god, those back street market towns of London have a lot to answer for.
  24. Now I am being honest here, if I could own a boat, it would have to be a woody. I love the style that they give off and the look of wood varnished is simply perfection on a boat. But unless you have the time and money, unfortunately some of us can't go in that direction. I do have a lot of admiration for the people that keep woodies on our broads and may hope it continue.
