  1. Everyone's mileage will vary but it's worth looking at a used DJI Spark (with warranty!) as they're very stable and quite cheap now. Crashing a DJI drone can be painful (I should know) but there's little work to do with the footage which comes out of them. Swings and roundabouts. Sent from the Norfolk Broads Network mobile app
  2. Oh no the internal cleaning is built into our running costs! Makes sense I think as 'clean' is quite a subjective thing. Sent from the Norfolk Broads Network mobile app
  3. We have the option at Richardson's - It's £25 + VAT and yes well worth it. Sent from the Norfolk Broads Network mobile app
  4. This is a nasty one. A woman has been killed in Italy after getting crushed between a boat (I assume the overhang on the sides) and a bridge. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6989347/Mother-crushed-death-children-Italy.html
  5. And let's not forget the problem it creates in terms of the ongoing cost of getting rid of ships (ie the Scout Ship, Thai on the River etc) when they are end-of-life.
  6. Yes, very popular with Richardson's hirers. Quite easy to locate as if you find yourself on Barton Broad then you've gone too far and it's just behind you.
  7. Hi Paul and welcome aboard. Actually there was a thread yesterday about 'Wild Moorings' as they tend to be known and yes it's very much a thing - Obviously you need to be sure it's not private land, but there are plenty of places. You'll find some experienced folk on here who'll be along soon with suggestions... Of course there's always the option of mudweighting somewhere, but then the BBQ wouldn't be an option.
  8. There's another bridge between the A146 and A140, as well...
  9. I assumed this one at Cringleford - The one shortly before you turn off onto the A11 if coming from the direction of Postwick.
  10. It does - hover over a user's Avatar picture and you'll see a pop-out. The first of three buttons is 'Message'. Alternatively, use the envelope icon at the tor right of the page.
  11. In terms of what constitutes a wild mooring, I would say that it's anywhere without a proper staithe or quay heading. It has amused me when I've seen a picture on one of the Facebook groups of a boat 'wild moored' when in reality it's just on the 24 hour BA mooring at Hardley Cross or something like that. For some, if there's no pub or a shop then it's a 'wild' mooring. A proper 'wild mooring' involves being tied to a couple of trees or on a bit of bank (that isn't private or where you have permission to moor) and with the rhond anchors very much in use.
  12. Craig's database only lists three of them having been registered on the Broads http://www.broads.org.uk/wiki2018/index.php?title=Style_Details&style=SntC
  13. At busy times it used to get rammed, even when the pub was crap. Nowadays with the pub being much improved, yeah I think there's a strong possibility of that if there's a lot of boats out. If you're plotting a course for Ranworth or Acle then you can always dart into Thurne if there's room...
  14. Same here. Perhaps an air horn is my next purchase
  15. If only there was some sort of UK Government website instead.... https://www.gov.uk/speed-limits
  16. Yup. Also the number of people that buy cars which don't appear to be fitted with indicators. Self-driving tech is getting better and you can see realistically that at some point in the future (I'm not talking just yet) people will be banned from driving cars because while machines can and will get it wrong, humans are much worse.
  17. I would think there's a formula, and actually just the presence of them would be a deterrent, surely? The car I personally saw lose it at one of the roundabouts was going way over the speed limit.
  18. I think the only realistic answer for the NDR is average speed cameras, particularly around the eastern section. I really have no idea how people get it so wrong, but they do, regularly.
  19. We don't allow those, either, also with good reason. I'd suggest using camel case ie 'PumpMedic'
  20. I think the problem was probably a lot worse back in the 70's and 80's - It is not hard to snap a picture or video these days and send it to the boatyard via PM etc and others can report where the boat is now etc etc. Back in those days you had to find the nearest payphone and then go and call the yard. I suspect the number of incidents that actually got reported was lower? Yes statistically you're probably more likely to get hit by a Richardson's boat given that their fleet is the size of most of the other yards put together - A bit like how your car is more likely to be hit in a car park by a Ford Focus than a Ferrari F40. That's despite a good handover and the biggest captain's manual I've seen.
  21. Usernames can only contain letters or numbers, those are the main rules. Spaces and any special characters cause problems hence they're not allowed.
  22. I'm with Vaughan on this - nowadays sharing 'free information' on the socials is a good plan for a business. There are people who are always going to have a crack at DIY'ing it and they'd do that regardless of what is shared online. They'll also never admit what a complete mess they made of it all. For everyone else the business sharing tips etc is seen as a subject matter expert and people reading their posts, following guides etc will gain an insight and understanding that getting a BMC onto the bench is not for them so they'll go to that business because they're seen as the experts.
  23. I assume the boat was a San Marino.... The name has been changed for the piece but actually it still seems to have the old red 'RICHARDSONS' ident with drop shadow aft below the rubbing strake visible.
  24. I did in 2007 on an ex Broads cruiser that was running in Scotland.... Not very likely on the Broads where the boats generally have fuel for 2+ weeks
  25. I've crashed a DJI drone into a canal.... Sent from the Norfolk Broads Network mobile app
