  1. I have a pacemaker and wear a medi alert bracelet as well as carrying a 'pacemaker passport'. Because I am left handed my pacemaker was fiited on the right hand side. There is a scar
  2. You really are not helping matters JA lol
  3. My horse in the work's sweepstake is Lake View Lad.
  4. The right layout that will suit you both. View as many boats as you can to get different ideas on what you like and dont. What will be practical, how you will use the space for day to day living rather than just a holiday. (The right mooring - has it got good facilities. Is there a launderette nearby) Storage Heating - hoping one day we can fit some to ours. I hate being cold
  5. Congratulations! My dad was a keen amateur radio enthusiast. I'm not sure if he still does it but i can remember learning morse code with him when i was a kid and he got a new call sign after passing his morse code if I remember rightly.
  6. When I was a kid in the 1970's I do remember my dad saying I had to stay inside the boat with my life jacket on when crossing Breydon and on no account go out of mum and dads sight during the crossing. Fear was installed! We did witness some awful crashes when people were trying to moor up at the yacht station and many boats grounded on Breydon . If you get the tides wrong ....... Just watching Robin's video of him fighting the tide and nearly stopping doesnt look like fun. We havent been across Breydon yet ....
  7. We didnt risk it and went to Horning via Acle and Ludham as suggested. it just took us about 10 mins longer than usual but no hold ups. I really enjoyed the different route. Ive never driven over Acle bridge so it was interesting seeing the river from a different view. We think we are going to be using that route from now on until the end of the season.
  8. There will always be a compromise. Ours is not having rear access for the dogs which is proving an issue but the positives is the layout, low airdraft when the canopy and sides are down but height when sitting in the helm. If it had rear access that would have equalled pretty much perfection for us.
  9. Actually that would come in use also to lift our very heavy winter cover off the boat!
  10. I was going to ask which is the best way to get to Horning from the A11 currently, but guess there is no best way looking at that map
  11. Warm welcome to the forum. :) What a fascinating thread. Hadnt come across it before

    My Day

After wanting to take the winter cover off the boat last week but it being too windy, we seized the opportunity of the lovely sunny calm day today and headed off to Norfolk. Car broke down just as we got to Norfolk. AA called. Car put on the back of a truck. Now home with Selsie hoping to fix it. Im nervous, we got home from Norfolk last week and the washing machine died. Things go in threes ........ :(
  14. Definite no. Id spend the whole time worrying and stressed.
  15. Our to do/done list is about as long as that! I managed to get the perfect colour carpet off cut from our local carpet dealer for the front cabin for £10. Think it might be the cheapest purchase so far
  16. Stunning sunset photos - definitely some contenders for the next calendar methinks
  17. Have a fab holiday Jay!
  18. Warm welcome to the forum and look forward to meeting you at the meet. Its a great event :)
  19. For us, online shopping is an absolute godsend. We both work long hours and leisure time is precious especially at the weekends so we do our food shopping online. It is the most, boring , time consuming thing for me trailing around Tesco so we either do click and collect or home delivery. We use Amazon a lot for boat bits as its so much cheaper and also click and collect at Screwfix. Certain things, yes I want to see them before purchase, such as the washing machine I had to get on Sunday. We were tempted to use AO as we have done before, but I was glad i went into store as the one I thought I wanted had a very flimsy door. It took probably 2.5 hours out of my weekend travelling to and from the store and choosing so plus a weekly food shop, thats a large chunk of time. When we retire, this may change as we will have the time but for now its fab. Food gets delivered on Friday, we are completely free at the weekends (unless the washing machine packs up)
  20. My mid life crisis car was a Mazda RX8. Totally impractical and I loved it. Mid life crisis over I traded it in for a Toyota Rav which is still going strong at way over 100,000 miles. It is so practical for lugging boat stuff up and down to Norfolk, transporting the hounds and yesterday getting a new washing machine in the back. My runabout is an Aygo. Perfect town car and cheap to run.

    Weather.

We had great plans to get the cover off and go out for a short cruise, but because of the winds we are staying put in the marina and certainly not attempting to take off the cover. We are certainly being buffeted about currently. The water levels are high, our neighbours boat bow line had torn apart but we’ve sorted it out and told the marina staff who have called the owner. Oh for some calm sunny weather ...... but on the bright side we have a stock of Fray Bentos pies and chocolate bars in the galley ready for dinner
