  1. Some years ago I brought a Rolex watch for £5, when it stopped working the Rolex company wouldn't honour the guarantee as they claimed it was a fake. It turns out that the honest trader was no more than a conman who was selling his product under false pretences.
  2. I guess for this particular thread I will be one of the "BA bashers" though I find it unfair as on the whole I think they are doing a good job. I don't trust them on this particular point because they have made it clear in the past that full national Park status is their goal. My concerns would be greatly diminished if the Executive where more evenly split between the 3 area's of conservation, public enjoyment (tourism) and boating, as most members come from the background of environment/conservation I feel justified in my suspicions.
  3. Speed limits. :shocked On the Broads. When did all this start. :norty: no one tells me anything. :River Police :River Police
  4. Isn't the poor chap just operating a job creation scheme, 1. dredge the river, 2. repair the banks, 3. destroy the banks and silt the river, go back to 1. and start again.
  5. Lidl are doing a cheap one at the moment, might not be robust enough for commercial use although you could buy 3 for the same price as 1 dearer unit. http://www.lidl.co.uk/en/our-offers-2491.htm?action=showDetail&id=20624&ar=12
  6. So we also have three identical photo's Anyway this site reckons moon rings herald bad weather, we had our worst snow of the year today. http://home.hiwaay.net/~krcool/Astro/moon/moonring/
  7. We had a halo around the moon last night (moon rings apparently)
  8. Hi Grendel, I think you might need to clean your camera lens, that should get rid of all those spots on your photo.

    Snow

So far we've been lucky, the odd flake here and there but none settled.
  10. There is another member who is very into the whole star gazing thing. Come on Grendel where are you.
  11. You miss the point totally, it's a analogy and was never intended to compare in such a literal way. However your argument defeats itself "colossal burden to the taxpayer funded NHS" is one argument, yet you then use "the tax take on cigarettes is huge, so there is no incentive to reduce smoking, other than on genuine health grounds" Surely the two points argue against each other.
  12. Hi Geoff and Wendy, welcome aboard. Congratulations on your up and coming wedding, hope the day and honeymoon go well. :wave
  13. Softly softly catchy monkey. Back in the 1960's smoking was banned from theatres, followed shortly after by cinema's, then trains and buses, then all public buildings, now it's plain packaging and smoking in cars, even talk of all public places covered or not. Whilst you may be totally anti smoking, this is just a example of how banning something can be done in stages over many decades, I am not a conspiracy theorist by any means but have been around long enough to know that most public bodies whether government or quango have the public version of events and the truth. Using a chisel to remove wood in seconds or sand paper taking hours the end result is still your wood shrinking.
  14. With the current set up Conservation, Tourism and Navigation are all given equal rights, if people believe this system isn't working then what do they think isn't working. Changing the area to national Park status will put Conservation at the forefront, whilst relegating Tourism and Navigation into second place and therefor the ones to suffer if a conflict of interest should arise. If on the other hand people are happy with the way things are, then what is the point of making the change, if it isn't broke don't fix it. I can understand people arguing in favour of a change if they consider the present system doesn't work, but please don't suggest that the changes will have no effect other wise what's the point of changing.
  15. Conservation! There will never be total agreement on such a controversial subject, most people will have different idea's or some hidden agenda. Some think conservation is all about wild life, others about preserving a way of life, and yes, even boating, whether commercial or pleasure is part of the historic use of the broads. The problems arise when it is felt that one area encroaches on another, should we change, restrict, stop any one thing to preserve another. Since the world began evolution has changed the face of the planet and seen many species either evolve or die out, when does conservation become playing God. I don't claim to know what is right or wrong, I do however believe that trying to please all parties is going to be impossible, the broads will continue to change over the years, we will have to live with it or spend our life fighting against the government, broads authority, environmental groups and each other.
  16. It looks like a steering wheel from a fork truck to me, never seen one on a boat.
  17. Well done Clive and Richardson, For several years people have been asking for just such a publication, now it has arrived and very comprehensive. What is the difference between double mooring and stern mooring? Stern mooring allows you to damage 2 boats (1 either side)
  18. I don't think I need to worry about turkey carcass, I've got a goose.
  19. Double-Decker buses where you had to stand up as all the seats were taken, passed one today with just 2 people on board and one was the driver.
  20. I'll do the usual, make a long list of all the jobs that desperately need doing. Then the sun comes out and I cast off and cruise, the same as every year. 2015 jobs will then be added to the 2016 list.
  21. Robin, It's taken me 4 try's to watch the whole blog but well worth it, especially the Mr bean sketch with the hotdogs.
  22. Hi Mark, If you know Dillywood then I live in Dillywood Cottage, it's right in the middle of the lane. Hi Speedtriple, The B2000 (road to Cliffe Woods) cuts through Dillywood lane, coming from Cliffe turn right into Dillwood Lane and the Hamlet is about a mile up the lane.
  23. I actually live in the hamlet of Dillywood though always tell people Higham as most have never heard of Dillywood. It won't last much longer as the roads and houses are getting closer and we will soon be swallowed up.
  24. OK. why are the meaty balls eaten with Pease pudding censored? they weren't that bad.
