  1. Women ARE included - it was merely generic!!!!!!
  2. Oh - I misunderstood!!!! I thought Alan was going to complain about the quality of postings or that a lot of us were grumpy old men!!!!
  3. To be fair, comparison NN with the Locks is not really quite the same - that does have land access except when it floods!!!!!
  4. Well well well - so he wasnt making a serious attempt at getting a licence then? I wonder where he thought his clientele would be coming from? Perhaps he had been out to Ibiza lately and decided that Yarmouth wanted a "booze cruise" destination? I suppose it won't be long before a change of use application comes in - anyone seen the state of the Griffin on Yarmouth Road in Thorpe? Having left it unsecured for a long time and planning rejected there for housing, the owners are asking £50000 rent p.a. for effectively a pile of rubble!!!! No surprise their intention either....!!!
  5. So north of the Orwell, I cannot think of anywhere nice to go, other than the Broads!!! Even there, you would struggle to get under Vauxhall, if at all. Ok south of Orwell way, loads of choices, but why keep a boat on the Broads and hammer south every time you want to have a weekend away ? Its not for me nor could I afford to fill her up with two guzzling diesels - if I use in excess of 200l of diesel a year on the Broads I am doing well!!!! I wonder if you are yanking his leg Smoggy or do you really believe that?
  6. Don't hurry to the Brokers yards - they really have b***er all to offer!! NYA at Horning have put all their also rans outside the shop and there is just 1 boat in the dyke at the rear! No rush, take your time and hire one or two to see what appeals!
  7. There is a distinct shortage of decent boats in the various brokerage outlets due to a surge in demand. Don't be in a hurry to spend your money, even if it takes some time. You could always hire to see how you like it first and check on which style you prefer Be mindful that in reality the market in Broads boats is fairly narrow due in part to the yards new build programme being limited. However keep your eye open and there are plenty of quality private boats on the market that have not been in hire! Much of course, depends on your budget - like anywhere, you get what you pay for and there are few bargains around without a reason. Always always get a survey!!
  8. The whole thing is unquestionably a windup! I am not even convinced that there was ever an intention to reopen - how can you possibly ever hope to run any establishment in it that position with no land access - relying on boat trade only, is just not a viable proposition. I suspect that he thought he may be able to trade off the loss of moorings against the planning permission - or something similar. Nothing has ever been straightforward about that place, and I suspect it is still the same. Whilst it is in a remote part, noise remains a real issue - I suspect poor old PW in Oulton Broad would hear it on a quiet night with a northerly breeze! In fact if you think about it, it would be more of a disturbance in that place, rather than directly next to a car breakers!!!! Sound carries for miles on a quiet evening so perhaps the observation is not as silly as it sounds.
  9. Some and some I think you will find - on balance I think they would prefer you use your card.
  10. Andrew - you should be grateful that the Chinese has closed - if you ever went in the place you would have been horrified!!!!
  11. Ian - you can easily do what is required i.e make up and print off your own exemptions, armbands or otherwise,so I do not understand why you should not. Why should anyone else bother to do it and if they do, so what? There will be very very few who want to go down that line just to cheat the system, so please do what you want to do and not expect the Dr's or anyone else to do it for you.
  12. Albion shares her wet shed with Maud, some would say a proper clinker built wherry! She was dragged out of Ranworth Broad, not Malthouse, and restored over a long period by Vincent Pargeter, the well known Norfolk/Suffolk millwright who sadly died a few years ago. She is now run by his wife as a small charitable Trust - see here https://wherrymaudtrust.org/ Albion's own site is here - https://www.wherryalbion.com/ Sad to know but public sailings have been put on hold for this year for obvious reasons but Albion, and Maud too, will be out and about for Crew Training until the middle of September - cannot let the old gits lose their quanting skills!!! ( Sorry Ian - topic drift again!!!!!!! )
  13. Liked the tale - sadly Albion is in fact Maud, the other black sailed trader remaining!! Hope you don't mind me pointing that out!!!!
  14. So why are they over PW? Can you no longer see them????
  15. Did anyone, including Mr Horrocks really expect a different outcome? Its all part of the longer term aim to get change of use i suspect!!!
  16. I don't think so PW !!!! Not the same - I walked the beach between E Runton and Cromer yesterday and although there were quite a few people either end - in between? Very few!! Stop alarming people like Ian!!! The comparison with Spain is inappropriate!!!
  17. Ian - do you want every action you take in life to be approved by Government? I certainly don't so the least edicts they issue the happier I shall be! It was easy for them to issue instructions for lockdown - but much more difficult to issue precise instructions for everyone asking for them now on how to open things up. I think you should bear in mind their instructions as generally issued, carry out your own risk assessment and proceed as you feel necessary and appropriately. Incidentally I was in Cromer today and whilst it was busy, I thought how well people were coping! Bit like speeding on the Broads - all a matter of opinion and perception!!!
  18. Sorry OBB - it wasn't you!!!! NN's right - the market is pretty lively and would be more so if more boats about!
  19. You try and buy a decent secondhand motor home at the moment - the secondhand hand boat market similarly is alive and well despite OBB's fears. NYA have hardly any decent stock left and stuff is flying off the shelf as the post indicates NBS in Wroxham have just sold a well worn Diamond 35, an old Benmore which has been for sale for many a long year - oK BB might have needed the cash to tide them over but it was pretty fully priced!!
  20. Sprucing up did not seem to include the apparent "hand" signwriting of the names!!! Always looked like a bit of an afterthought - indeed the whole running of the company seemed a bit like that! Strange really as if I recall correctly, they sold a business in the Lakes to start BBC.
  21. Oh just remembered - the Lord Nelson, Horsey!!!!
  22. Must admit, the two times I have been to Rocky Bottoms, I have been less than impressed!! On the other hand, it could be me....!!!! I would however endorse Bure River Cottage - but don't ask for a steak!!!!
  23. Surely the very nature of the name Broads Beat, suggests that their job is exactly that!!!! Patrolling the Broads - or had I missed something?????
