  1. Too much gesturing and shushing would have made me carry on straight through them, as said it's not a closed area so you have to put up with others using the water, if you want them to cooperate you have to ask nicely and politely not throat cutting gestures and shushing.
  2. To be fair if it took 8 years to pluck up courage to cross breydon something was going to frighten them whatever happened, did anyone else see what happened and was it actually that scary? I've heard a lot of people talking about how rough it was on breydon on some very calm days, some are too easily panicked.
  3. I'd only ever use a genny on land, never in a boat.
  4. WooHoo! A 1000w honda genny delivered with a full tank of petrol for £50, very tidy and recently serviced too, I couldn't quite bring myself to haggle....
  5. Oh yes, only when moored in busy places and never before 9.00pm or later than 7.00am
  6. I have been known to use left over credit on a leccy post for an extra battery top up overnight, I've also left 90p worth on one so I could use a leccy drill for a few minutes, when you need it you need it. Saying that as of tommorow I should be the proud owner of a 1000w honda genny for £50! Result (yes I do know and trust the source...)
  7. So who's going to be the first to develop 'warp drive'?, not sure where the dilithium crystals are mined though......
  8. I like the idea of clean quiet boating but can't imagine a private boat that stands unused for weeks at a time would be good on keeping batteries healthy, and they are not going to be cheap to replace, if a boat needs to be kept on a charger when not used to keep the batteries good it isn't so green realy. I realy don't think battery technology is up to the job yet.
  9. You won't see Vetchugger that often, he is usually working to pay for his last breakdown.... Sorry Trev, couldn't resist..
  10. Bear in mind the levels of technology and costs of modern farm equipment and you'll soon see if red diesel was so rough no farmer would let it near his new tractor, they don't use rattly old perkins diesels anymore, usually much higher performance engines than you'll find in any family saloon.
  11. One benefit of outdrives is the ability to lift them in drying harbours, very common on the east coast to sit on the bottom over low water. Of course one of the downsides is having the weight of engine and outdrive right at the stern makes for very lively trips in lumpy water, Leo has done tail stands far too many times.
  12. I let the Mrs. work out any serious tidal streams, we did a trip from wells to hull a few years ago and were 10 minutes out on arrival at hull 11 hours after leaving wells, I would have given up halfway through the working out..... On a good 2 week run we can easily get through 450 litres of diesel without going over 6 knots, that gets scary.
  13. I've only owned aft cockpit boats but find it fairly easy in most situations to get the stern in enough to step off with both ropes in hand , the middle of the boat always leaves a gap whichever end the wind/tide catches, avoid canopies that need to be climbed through for single handing on tidal water, but theres nothing that can't be re-designed.
  14. unfortunately with limited time to go boating we don't always get an option of picking the right tide, it does always get looked at though before deciding where to go.
  15. I've overnighted on the beccles mooring before, don't always get an option.... The little car shop in beccles is quite hel[pful though when you need a head gasket quickly.
  16. Ferry house at surlingham and ship at reedham both have wifi, I have used both recently, they are free for customers, ask at the bar for the password.
  17. Give Barry a shout at boatropes.co.uk, I've had some good deals from him before, polyester braid on braid is nice to handle and can be nicely spliced with a hollow needle fid, nylon is good for a bit of stretch on tidal moorings but doesn't wear as well. You can tease an eye splice out a bit and re tighten it with braid on braid to get it on to a cleat.
  18. I hope you have planning permission to hang that logo over the river like that........ Nice one.
  19. I've had my dinghy do something similar when sitting too far back, I usually have to sit at full stretch on the tiller, it's nothing overpowerful just an old 8hp yamaha on a plastimo 2.4 metre inflatable. Steers like a real pig when the motor tucks under.
  20. Oh dear I hope it's better than the wetherspoons in st.neots (I liked the kings head a couple of years ago), sure it's cheap but the beer and service are crap and it's soul-less even when busy, an elderly couple got banned about a month ago for having the cheek to complain about a hair in their food. We've were told off in hull wetherspoons for having the cheek to sit at a table that had just been cleaned, asked for a clean glass in kings lynn wetherspoons and the barman had the full shelf out before he found 2 that we'd drink from (and I'm no hygene freak by any means), I've not been impressed by one yet.
  21. We shall certainly pop in when passing, would be a shame to lose it as a pub, does anyone know if dogs will be allowed in the bar?
  22. We were at brierly's marina just up from the town bridge for 12 years, had a couple of normans before Leo.
  23. When we were back at st.neots marina there was a load of exitement when one of the eastenders cast was supposed to be moving his boat in there, I didn't know who he was, what he looked like, or what his character was called, I probably met him and didn't realise, I don't recall realy giving a sh*t about it all as long he wasn't getting my berth. Isn't Guy Martin basically a lorry driver when he's not thrashing or chugging? Indeed a good bloke.
  24. Absolutely, and you wouldn't feel out of place having a beer with them either. I did meet Fred before he was 'famous', was just a wee sprog at the time at a steam rally with my old man, a very nice guy he was too.
  25. Wouldn't know them if I saw them and wouldn't care either, I don't do 'celebrity', I can't see what use they have, if he was a famous enfield outdrive repair man and she was a famous wood varnisher I may be more interested......
