    Frack off

And it's not a proper national park anyway, the broads probably gets more harm done by all us smelly boaters mixing diesel fumes with the water than fracking ever would. Two sides to every argument and all that....
  2. Been in a few times over the last 2 weeks, found it friendly and the food good, and very happy to keep the kitchen open when asked after food times for a boat load of people. Theres not many staff there and everything has to be collected not delivered so often staff down so bear with it. Currently run by Joe with Mandy doing the food but I believe Mandy is taking it on herself next season with help from a relative, she is a very friendly character and I wish her the best with it.
  3. Most bad moorings I have ever done have been sober, and I've done some pretty tricky ones under the affluence of incahol with no problems.
  4. Thats just the stag do's, and it's not sherbert.....
  5. How does the smoking ban work when the whole pub is smoking?
  6. We'll be about over next weekend, plan is to fit a new fuel pump on port engine and diesel filters to both and head across breydon for a test thrash to see if I've cured the engine racing problem, then head back to thorpe. All via pubs of course.....
  7. When hydrogen goes bang it's a very sharp bang too so I don't envy your ears, a couple of the blokes I work with filled a small plastic pork pie tube full of hydrogen and oxygen and their ears were ringing for ages, we later went on to fill an inflatable sheep (don't ask, it was bloody funny though) and thought the windows were coming in when we ignited it.(it was Christmas eve and we are easily bored....) 2 litre coke bottles go all the way into the timber yard opposite. The gas used was from nothing more than tap water and about 10A @ 12V for a few hours in a home made electrolysis unit. Batteries and sparks are always a bad mix so thanks for the reminder.
  8. Whats the latest on mutford lock? Is it operational yet?
  9. Seems a friendly enough chap too.
  10. Lurch has left the building! The berney arms is now back on the map of pubs to visit, went in satutrday to see a landlord that smiled, beer that was good, food that looked good, and clean tables, been a while since I've seen any of those in there. Lets hope he makes a go of it.
  11. The chemicals in a portapotti will certainly kill off the beneficial bugs in a septic tank making it smell a lot worse, and do much more damage when dumped in the river as it must be very tempting to do. Back on the gt.ouse and nene I used to find a portapotti tank with some torn up loo roll and blue veg dye could soon get the brats out of a lock pen when they were swimming in it.......
  12. There are very few boats on the broads these days with sea toilets and as has been said before mother nature can cope with it and very quickly too, tipping portapotties over the side is far more harmful due to the chemicals used, the problem with banning sea toilets altogether is that the broads is a tidal haven with sea access and many sea going boats only have sea toilets. Farm chemicals will be a much bigger problem but is very hard to avoid. I have a sea toilet fitted with options of direct discharge or holding tank, also tank has option of pump out of manual pumped direct discharge, original fitment was just direct discharge sea toilet.
  13. The low sulphur bit isn't the bit that attacks seals it just lacks lube properties so rotary pumps are affected worse for accelerated wear as they have rotating cam rings that run in the fuel, I didn't think inline pumps used engine oil though. If the pump bolts directly to the engine and is driven internally then the drive seal leaking will go into the sump, if the pump attaches to a bracket on the side of the engine and is driven externally a seal failiure will leak into the bilge, it's the seal problem caused by FAME content that will cause a runaway but only if it goes into the sump. Older marine engines tend to be internally driven, slightly more modern overhead cam automotive engines engines tend to be belt driven (as mine are). I believe bosch rotary pumps are more forgiving of lube issues than lucas/cav/roto-diesel/delphi which are known to seize solid on too much veg oil.
  14. I've been reading through this thinking 'sod it I have old cav pumps, what is my plan' and finally remembered they are driven by belt so no fuel can get into the sump.....I'll just get a bilge full of diesel and a smell so I'll sit back and wait for the breakdown, toolkit can be spare beer in the fridge. It's worth remembering that it doesn't matter what engine you have, it's what pump is fitted that matters and on most older engines it will be a lucas/cav/roto-diesel/delphi pump and they are all the same pump(different models but same technology), bosch may fare better as I believe they get on better with veg oil than cav do.
  15. I go the other way Trev, tv is connected to the vhf aerial when not in use and usually does ok, if no signal it probably wasn't worth watching anyway so go back to the pub. I never did like the look of a tv aerial on a boat, would rather go without the tv.
  16. Surely the point is that the quay at reedham belongs to the village not the BA so it's down to the village wether or not it charges, every conversation I have had with locals in reedham seems to suggest they are against it. I don't object to £3 but I expect it to go to the land owner not the self imposed 'authority' that police it, the same bunch that have told me to moor on the lord nelsons spot telling me I don't need to use the pub, it the pub owns that bit of mooring thats out of order in my book. I have fallen foul of the 24 hour bit there when returning for a second night when my visit has involved the spending of over £150 to the local business's, surely that is far more in the village (the quay owners) interest than the boats that have stopped onboard all night and spent sod all. Just another point of view.....
  17. Are these not fixed bridges that can't realy be non-operational.
  18. I've been described like that before, think it's my drinking habits.....
  19. Whoever left 2 quid on the reedham leccy post this weekend thanks very much, was nice and warm all night..... Chucked a couple of quid in the caister lifeboat box in the pub so don't hold it against me too badly.
  20. I have flow switches in my raw water system and a bi-colour led on the helm, turn on ignition it goes red (so you know it's working), start engine it quickly goes green, water flow stops it gows red, simple and saved me a few problems often where I've just stopped the engine and restarted to clear something sucked against the inlet.
  21. Mine was clean, once........ Then started it up and used it.
  22. I thought you meant turning 90degrees, thats what I was referring to, although a goose neck setup never hurts to stop back flow. I have vetus cylindrical water locks and they sap the sound very well and are amazingly adjustable for small spaces, with rubber outlet pipes running up and over it makes up a gooseneck too, used to have straight out pipes and were far too loud, everyone on the gt.ouse know who was coming when throttled up a bit, now I can sneak up while it's still their round.....
  23. Try it orientated more upright and see if that helps, is there still the right amount of water coming through?
  24. I have a mesh sock filled with ceramic beads impregnated with noble metals to kill off the bugs in my polyurethane lined water tank, it works well and only needs replacing every five years, can be fed in through the tank filler and pulled out again. Always found I could taste and smell aquatabs, water is perfectly drinkable now. http://www.hovercraftconsultants.co.uk/products/asp/prodtype.asp?prodtype=61&ph=cat&keywords=&recor=&SearchFor=&PT_ID=&PT_MasterCategory=n
  25. It doesn't take them long to refloat and dry out the engine these days.....
