  1. Looks like typical EDP journalism to me. Few facts, mostly inaccurate, irrelevant photo and bingo, another page in the rag filled.
  2. I like to cook a full English brekkie, but only have two rings and a grill so the frying pan is used a lot. I'm likely to get one of these and keep it next to the fire blanket. https://www.tristarproducts.co.uk/firescape-pansafe-3-pack.aspx seems to be a better price
  3. Without bias on the actual matter I have to make myself unpopular with two members I respect. Firstly Vaughan. Sorry but the paragraph that Peter has quoted makes little sense. If you include the words "It will be illegal if" and remove the first word "unless", then it makes a little sense until you specify that the blockers were "unelected" or are you saying that had they been elected, such a tactic would be legal? In any event I'm not sure you are right. Immoral yes, but illegal? and now Peter, Would you? I would have thought that "preferred" was more damning. I see no problem with any "suitable" purchaser.
  4. A question on the law and how it relates to this situation... If someone, say James Knight, proves that the BA blocked the planning permission, would the courts then re-think their decision on whether to pass said application. If they do so, would not the new owners benefit greatly from such a change of mind? If it can be shown that because of previous underhanded behaviour, a re-application would be passed, would it be wrong of the new owners to re-apply as advised? For "justice" to prevail, the new owners need prove nothing, it would be for those bringing a corruption charge against the new owners to prove their complicity in the corruption or insider dealing. Mr Woods has it seems been ill advised throughout this affair (that is to say he seemed to be acting on very poor advice) a fault that will end up costing him dearly. For other people to profit from his shortcomings may well be immoral but not necessarily illegal... surely?
  5. Another face I recognised was the crane driver, Peter Linford, who owns the Neatishead boatyard at Wayford Bridge (just opposite Jon's yard across the river).
  6. You ain't got no sense of adventure you ain't.
  7. Very interesting. I'm going to look into it further.
  8. This is the problem with this topic, there are some members that have (perfectly justifiably) very strong views on it. We need to be careful not to let our feelings cause us to write posts that make the matter even more contentious than it already is. For my part I think that all that needs to be said, has been said. This new development of the people buying the plot who were objecting to things under its previous owner, needs watching, but until they try something underhand, then watching is all that's needed.
  9. I don't doubt that for one moment Ricardo, but in this instance (well in all instances really ) should we not wait until some skulduggery has actually taken place rather than have trial by forum for what we think they might do. Is it not possible that they will want to have the land kept attractive and stop it being used as "nimby spoiling" moorings? .... on the other matter, may I request that if this thread is merged with the others, that it carries a more "BA neutral" title to encourage balanced debate.
  10. Whilst I sympathise Ricardo, I don't think that attitude will achieve anything useful or constructive. Under normal circumstances your riverside philosophies are a credit to both yourself and the environment in which you live. Please do not change that out of spite however justified you feel in doing so. Keep your powder dry and hit back when the target is more appropriately focused on. Keep your ear to the ground and your eye on the ball (and prey you're not playing golf) The time will come when you will be far better positioned to "go public" on something that will really hurt.
  11. Insufficient information to make any form of judgment either in favour of, or against the new owners. Therefor, like most EDP articles, I make nothing of it whatsoever.
  12. I'd prefer to belong to a club that had a Rear Commodore than one that had a Rear Admiral.
  13. Ohh gawd, another bloody Mason.
  14. Looking at our NBN calendar, this years Autumn meet is on the 16th & 17th of September... or has something changed?
  15. Would the farmer get planning permission for the "change of use"?
  16. Just another thought. £2 per mooring post used or blocked, per payable period or part thereof. Shared posts £1 per boat sharing. Dinghy's free. Fee payable +50% in British summertime if paid in the honesty box, but -50% out of season discount (GMT) or free if paid over the bar as a customer. (GMT only). Finally, Double on Christmas day. Anyway, as I said before, all will be fine as long as you keep it simple. :)
  17. What a fascinating thread this is turning out to be. It is not uncommon to read 'outrage' when we hear of greedy land owners charging for moorings with the poor old Cator family receiving the flack. Now a businessman has put his side of the story and I find myself swamped in reasonable replies. For my part I'd say £5 or £10 is reasonable and perhaps you might try "Honesty boxes". Just to bounce a couple of thoughts, how about £7.50 in the honesty box or £5 if paid across the bar as a customer. Perhaps you could split the fee to £5 from 10:00 to 16:00 and £5 from 16:00 to 10:00. It is my suspicion that those who would try avoid paying will still do so, those who will pay... ...will pay! Above all, remember to keep it as simple as possible.
  18. RATS !!!! That's one I'll not be able to get to. Rats rats and triple rats!
  19. Perhaps the swan had been attacked by a mob of killer shrimps (I believe we are allowed to speak out against that species) as lets face it, we all know that the shrimps are protected by the non indigenous mussels that have invaded the broads Mafia style. Oh come on, we all know the method they use. First they send in the signal crays to clear the area of any indigenous pests, then the mussels move in and make a base finally brining in the killer shrimps to rid the area of any other gangs. The swans try to gang up, so the shrimps have them. I know all this to be fact as I have been told so by a number of those peace loving otters I drink with. (though I have to admit, they only ever join me for a drink when I've already been in the bar for a while.)
  20. Which is the nearest boozer to the Belaugh mooring, and how long would it take to walk there? I suspect that is the reason for it being a little used spot.
