  1. Thanks Smoggy, NYA have said they can replace it with a Nanni part from Peachments 🤞
  2. It goes from bad to worse. Looks like a faulty isolator has fried the new alternator, that is going off to Panks. The radiator cap looks to have been stuck on with chemical metal in the past, that has blown off and because the engine battery went flat no warnings were noticed on the dash. That sounds like it could get expensive. Awaiting a full report when the electrical side is repaired and the water topped up after the radiator cap housing is repaired. I don't think it will be going on it's new mooring this side of the New Year.
  3. Thought an update might be in order. Finally after trying to get it moved from Horning to Brundall Gardens it has got as far as Brooms. Being a bilge keel it needed to be lifted onto a trailer and lifted off. This proved difficult due to the constant flooding in Horning. The other option was to have it helmed down. After much delay and cancellation NYA stepped up and had it helmed down yesterday. Part of the sale agreement was for some work to be done on the charging system locally and the owner paid for it. The alternator was changed and two new leisure batteries fitted. Apparently when it was fired up yesterday the alternator light wouldn't go out. The local yard sent someone over to fiddle under the dash and it worked again, until about 2 hours from Brundall when the light came back on. The helm stopped at Brooms and found the shut off button for the engine wouldn't work so turned of the fuel supply. The plan is for NYA to move it to their own workshop tomorrow and find and fix the problem for me. I have had two previous trips up to get it ready for winter and ended up with it not being there. I did get other jobs done on Whitey and met a potential buyer for the Shetland so not entirely wasted. The end part of this week should be third time lucky but I am not holding my breath. I have to say, NYA have been superb throughout with regular updates.
  4. It would be more appropriate to voice any suggestions or criticism directly to Brag rather than to list them here.
  5. Given that construction started in January 2021, The foundations would have been in place since at least late 2022 and the framework since late 2021. Yet the prolonged flooding this year is being blamed on the new bridge obstructions that has been in place for two previous seasons.
  6. I have the original bilge pump on Whitey, it is mechanical one with the diaphragm visible and separate float, it is noisy. I check it every visit to make sure it works. I have wired it to the inverter battery as that is rarely used. I fitted a second high volume modern bilge pump and float lower down and wired that to the double house batteries. Both are fitted with non return valves. The Sheerline had a jammed float and flat battery during my survey, this is now replaced and wired to the new double house bank. I don't think pumps are an area to save money on.
  7. I guess the plan is not to have a plan so they don't need to allocate funding they don't have.
  8. This is a 2008 response sent to Gordon Brown as PM, I suspect these plans have been dropped by now following various huge impacts on the national economy in the last 15 years. I am no expert but I thought the latest plan was a managed retreat, partly because of a lack of money, hence the problems at Hemsby and many other areas of the country.
  9. Completely stupid action. No doubt a few minutes later my boat was bouncing against the near overtopping quay heading.
  10. More than double the expected rate of inflation for the period covered by the proposed budget. Local Authorities have been limited to a maximum 5% increase again this year, they are making cuts to balance their budgets, so it is possible.
  11. If you want a more formal wording. I have used this as a committal and ashes internment wording. As the sun rises and as it sets.. We will remember Mum At the blowing of the wind and in the chill of winter. . . At the opening of the buds and in the rebirth of spring. . At the blueness of the skies and in the warmth of summer. . . At the rustling of the leaves and in the beauty of autumn. . . At the beginning of the year and when it ends. . . We will remember her, When we are weary and in need of strength. . . When we are lost and sick at heart. . . When we have joy and wish to share it. . . When we have decisions that are difficult to make. . . When we have achievements that are based on hers. . . We will remember her. For as long as we live, Mum too shall live. . For she is now a part of us as we remember her.
  12. Talk from the your heart not your head, whatever you say will be okay as you are among friends. Celebrate all the good times you had together and don't worry. Good luck.
  13. Don't forget they need a head of planning. With only around 400 applications a year they should only need one assistant but any ideas how many planning staff they have.
  14. If I fall off my perch tomorrow the forum is set up in such a way that someone else can be press ganged into taking on overall responsibility. Admin authority is held by a number of the team to avoid any succession problems. The forum is also on a sound financial footing thanks to hard work by the team over the last few years.
  15. That is true but we don't have permission to post here from a lot of FB groups.
  16. This is the link to James Knight's blog. The other article is in a closed group so cannot be reproduced here. Please remember our Terms of Service when discussing this. http://www.thebroadsblog.co.uk/2023/11/navigation-charges-open-letter-to-all.html?m=1
  17. Richard reported a couple of weeks ago that he was having problems with the software and that he is also unwell but hoped to get it up again in the near future.
  18. I have spent the day onboard doing odd jobs and finding an additional mooring for the new boat. My moorings have been split across the marina, about as far apart as they could be. I have claimed the one next to Denham Owl as it is only about 50' from Whitey. Now all I need is Horning to dry out so the boat can be transported down. I now need to practice stern on mooring, it's been 15 years since I did one 🤞
  19. Good morning all, Please be aware that a large tree has fallen and is extending 10m into the channel of the River Yare about 800m upstream of the Water’s Edge pub (true right bank). The tree is currently marked with 2 yellow buoys. Navigators are advised to exercise caution when navigating in the area. Work to remove the tree will begin next week. Thank you for your cooperation. 21. You might need a refresher driving lesson it's been so long.
  22. It does beggar belief that they budget for inflation on the previous year rather than on the forecast rate. One more way of keeping the empire growing. They are not alone, my mooring fees will go up by 9% in March when inflation should be around 3.5 %. So much for sustainable increases.
  23. I think the last few lines of this poem by Bill Mitton are particularly sad. The Crosses I stood there before the crosses glowing white in row on row Everyone a young life cut short as the names upon them show. The dates they died below the names tell of wars now past and gone Passchendaele, the Somme, and Mons of battles fought, and lost or won. History remembers, as it should these men who fought and died Whilst for their families left behind a dull sorrow tinged with pride. The faces of boys held now in Sepia who died in days long gone yet living on in memories and hearts, still holding on. Yet despite the hurt and grief here what with horror makes me fill Is that when I look behind me there are more new crosses growing still.
  24. Talking to my youngest granddaughter Annie on the way home from school tonight she was telling me about a poem they read out during a Remembrance assembly today, she could recite the first few lines and said it was a lovely but sad poem, I recited my favourite war poem, The Life That I Have, this is now her other favourite poem. At my grandsons school the vast majority of pupils were wearing poppies on their blazers. Anyone in a cadet unit could wear their uniforms for the day. I saw a good number of Air force, Army, Navy and Royal Marine uniforms, all being proudly worn. How good to know the next generation are being shown the importance of Remembrance. In Flanders Fields In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie, In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. By John McCrae The Life That I Have The life that I have Is all that I have And the life that I have Is yours The love that I have Of the life that I have Is yours and yours and yours. A sleep I shall have A rest I shall have Yet death will be but a pause For the peace of my years In the long green grass Will be yours and yours and yours. by Leo Marks
