  1. Lovely picture. Peter do you mind if I take a copy for personal use?
  2. A centre line on hire craft would be very useful, can't remember one on a boat that we have hired on the Broads. One of the best displays of mooring was at Reedham with a strong wind and tide both going in the same direction and the boat mooring with both behind it. It was several boats away and I did not go to help as I assumed the ranger would be there. They went in and swung out then I read for a little bit. Heard several loud shouts in language that was quite colourful someone else on the boat commenting on the driver, not very complimentary either, loud enough for us to hear, so I looked out again. This time they were stern on to the key and swinging rapidly. Next time I looked they had gone in the correct way and the stern was swinging in. In difficult conditions it can be great fun unless you are prepared. As far as leaving it in gear is concerned. I was stern mooring at Rockland, got the boat in nicely Sara had stepped off with the ropes and I was just putting the mud weight down when the man in the boat next to us suggested that I take it out of gear. I thought it was but on checking it was just engaged. Either I hadn't got it in the right place or I knocked it. Sara was very happy when the strain on the ropes was reduced. Thanked the man for letting me know. Not sure what shade of red I had gone.
  3. We moored there last year. Enjoyed the location and restaurants. Caught the bus into Norwich as well, very convenient. It would be a shame to loose these.
  4. That sounds good. I enjoyed watching their series on the canals. Looking forward to it.
  5. We tried a combination of PMR and lining up right first. With the windy conditions I had to try and guess which way the boat would be pushed and allow for that when lining up.
  6. Not sure if this is in the right area, but I am sure the Mods can put it where it should be. We spent the last two weeks just pottering about, being onvertaken by many and not actually overtaking many at all. We loved it. Taking it easy and just relaxing at the moorings gave us an opportunity to see many boats come in to moor. With the strong winds and tidal flows some of the moorings were extremely interesting indeed. It was not always hire craft but also the odd private craft. So I thought it would be a good time for the more experienced of you could share how to do it and some of your favourate tips. I always try to plan in advance and know the tide times (and have them to hand) and which way the river is flowing. I keep an eye on the wind and anticipate which way it will be blowing for the mooring that I am approaching or planning to use. I approach my intended mooring spot into the wind or tide which ever I think is strongest even if this means going past my intended spot and turning around where it is safe to do so. Approach at an angle I try 30 to 45 degrees. Make sure you approach slowly. As I get close I give the stern a little (very short burst) flick of power to bring the back in only slightly after the bow. Use reverse power to bring the boat to a halt. My SWMBO has both stern and bow ropes in her hands steps off the boat (no jumping) and I help tie up. With the ropes already in the right position I have moored on my own if she is busy. I use clove hitches running the rope back to the boat. This is how we do it. I am sure that there is lots of room for improvement, and that some will point it out.......the moor (pun intended) the merrier. This year we had some walkytalky radios with ear sets. This worked very well especially for stern mooring as we were on a bath tub.
  7. We have Swallow from Maffett Cruisers booked for August 2015 for a week. Always get very good value there, although hey are not In the Richardsons New boat class. I could probably get several weeks on Swallow for one of those and there is only two of us.
  8. We were moored at Somerleyton by the ladder in after the yacht. We left OBYS on Tuesday morning. Looked for your boat. Looking at the photo of where you were we must have gone past you as we came in and left. Too worried about the wind.
  9. Just got back from two weeks bliss on the Broads., looking forward to next years visit already. When we were handing back the boat this morning I had a chat to one of the other boats crew that had also been out for the last two weeks. He informed me that he had travelled up north and one of Richardsons boats had gone under Wayford bridge and got stuck. I had a quick look on the site expecting it to be posted with the normal photos etc, but nothing? Anyone know anything? I hope all were ok.
  10. We ate there last night. The food and selection were very good. Good selection of fish as well.
  11. We are at OBYS, typical Bank Holiday weather.
  12. We are moored at Geldeston today and are booked in at OBYS tomorrow? When is the wind due to pick up. Don't fancy stern mooring there in a strong wind. We were looking forward to the power boat racing............oh what to do in Lowestoft on a cold, wet very windy day???
  13. No. Should read Norfolk Broads, but I love the NBN too.
  14. Glad you had a good time Tim. We saw RB just through GY coming north, I think it was Wednesday. Moored near Beccles tonight. I love the NB.
  15. We were moored just across from where it happened. We left at 5:45 to go to the Cinema and heard about it this morning. It can happen so easily.
  16. Neil. Planned for sometime this weekend. Love it above Beccles. Mind you I love it above all of the higher reach bridges. Something special about the quieter winding stretches with the trees hanging over the water. Monday we hope to watch the speedboats weather permitting.
  17. Motored from Bargate to Norwich this morning leaving at 09:30. Saw very few boats on the water........lovely. Out for another week. Expecting it to get busy though over the weekend.
  18. Grace, we are on Kingfisher from Maffetts. Mark. If I had have had the tackle I would have had a quick spin. I left that lot at home.
  19. Just catching an hours fishing before dinner at the stern on moorings above a Wroxham bridge. I struck into the first fish and started reeking in when the rod bent and then the line went slack. The hook had gone. Put another hook on and tried again. Struck into another and as I was bringing the fish to the surface There was a big splash and a pike took the fish. Gave it a break for dinner and tried again. This time I caught a small perch and nothing, so I thought the pike must have gone. Struck to another it was a roach about half a pound. The Pike leap completely out of the water this time and just missed the roach. It must have been eighteen inches to two foot long. I tried once more but he was quicker this time. So after the third time of Pike feeding I have given up. Never had that happen before.
  20. Yes Neil, probably the very same spot. Moored on a wild mooring on the Ant last night above How Hill just before Irestead. We are above Wroxham bridge today. Very windy this morning again but nice and sunny now. Been hit three times and have nudged one boat.......have to say I was not steering at the time, we had just come through the bridge and the Pilot was stern mooring when the wind gusted. It was slight though. Having a lovely time.
