Many years ago when you made acted with the best of intentions to do the correct thing the only people than knew about it were those around you. You probably knew those people quiet well. Some of them may have judged you, most would have probably been too busy trying to put a roof over their heads and food in their mouths. Roll on the years, within seconds we see what is going on around the whole world, we get the opportunity to judge, to criticise, to mock and to ridicule all from the safety of our house. We don't often know the recipient of our comments nor do we care. The trouble today is that we spend so much of our time criticising others instead of helping them. Even with the rain it was a good watch Robin. Must be something in the water at Loddon. We have hired from Maffetts Cruisers just next door to Pacific they are an independent yard run by lovely people who give great service too.

Tease 10B, can't wait now. Enjoyed the film Robin, 30 days until we are on the water. So looking forward to it. We may have some close friends with us on the second week who have never been before.

That's good news, looks like that are back on our visit list for August.

Sad news, we were planning on visiting this year in August. We ate there on our first night last year. Excellent meal with really good service.

We went down as far as you can see on the Photo. There is an entrance on the left before the low bridge, so I reversed into that and them moored up on the right hand side of the photo. There is Space for a few boats to moor up. We were on Swallow from Maffetts which is only 28 foot long, but there was another boat who had done the same thing he must have been 35 foot long. I turned out to be a waste of time as the Pub was shut that night. We went onto the Locks. Nice food. The route into the village is a nice walk.

I am not sure how MOH will take to a Walkie Talkie. I would probably still get the same response as when I raise my voice or use the wrong tone of voice. Not good. Can ruin a good pub meal.

Thanks for the replies and thanks Robin for the impromptu explaination. That is the way that I have done it upto now although I tend to turn the opposite way to the side the wheel is on so that I can maintain visibility as much as possible. That short film explanation will be really useful for lots of us.....thanks. I find that even though I visit every year it takes a little while to get into the swing of things. So I take it there is no easy way to do it without the laying wires and even if I did the camera view is distorted?

We are hiring Kingfisher from Maffetts in August, we hired Swallow last year. Both are front steer single level. I like this kind of boat but one of the problems is stern mooring visibility especially the opposite corner to the one you are steering from if it is raining. If the weather is fine I have the roof back and the rear door open. By standing up and looking over the roof or looking through the rear door I can see my wife's hand instructions. As some of you will know this is not always a good solution. Question is. I would like to put a camera inside the rear window looking out and relay the picture to my IPad at the front. Has anyone tried this or have some solutions. kingfisher is 32foot long. Just thought to mention Swallow does have a step up into the Saloon.

Welcome. We had a long break, thought we would try it again. Then the magic hit and we try to come back every year.

We hired from them in 1976. We had a lovely time. The boat yard were very good. Someone had broken down and they asked us to tow them all the way back across Lock Ness. Great fun. When you are cruising in the middle of Lock Ness it puts the size into perspective. That was our third time of hiring having done the Llangollen canal and river Thames. I would recommend it.

Love it, his voice is so soothing. I am certainly coming back.

As far as I am concerned they are a very good yard to hire from Swallow was excellent, I would hire her again, but as Neil said she was booked for the weeks we wanted this August so we have hired Kingfisher from them instead. Really friendly personal service with well maintained and clean boats. I am going to try and get Swallow again for next year, nice sized boat for two that really handles well. Good fuel consumption. Book direct for best price. Give them a go. We tried them after reading Neil's posts on his holiday on Swallow.

Oh and just to get back on thread, I too have been told I could moor there over night when arriving to late to go through.

I have only once had a problem at Norwich. The first time we moored there in 1985 we were told to put the mud weight down, which we did. During the middle of the night there was a lot of loud shouting, and we looked out of the window to see a boat floating passed. They were shouting to try and wake them up. I got dressed and out just in time to see this sleepy head look out of the window in disbelief. They through out the ropes and were tied up again. It turned out that some lads had been reported as running through and undoing lots of ropes. Ours too were undone, but we did not move as the mud weight was down. I always put the mud weight down now where ever I moor.
