  1. Hi Alan. Sorry there are no life-jackets on MS Inventory, although a former syndicate partner has left one on board - but I am not sure of what sort etc as we have our own. SueH
  2. Went into Calderdesigns on Womack Staithe when we were up there a couple of weeks ago. We saw some Regatta fleeces that we liked, went away - thought about it and went back (as you do). I then had a thought that it would be nice if they were embroidered with 'Moonlight Shadow'. Back we went again! We were made very welcome, the lass came out and looked at Shadow's name and how it was laid out, taking a photo. Special order was raised, for home delivery. They were received today and we are very impressed. We are now on their system so any time we want anything else embroidered it will be easy peasy. Thoroughly recommended. SueH

    Attitude

Thoroughly agree. We have always treated hires as our own. After all for a week it is SueH
  4. Currently on Swan Roamer, leaving her on 21st to Moonlight Shadow for two weeks. Will be flying the burgee. SueH
  5. Hi due to a bit of confusion on my part, we came up to MS a week early! Rather than go back again and return less than a week later we wondered down to Swancraft on the off chance. They were very good to us, we are now on Swan Roamer up to there excellent standard. We always have received a good welcome and this week was no exception despite turning up without having booked. Highly recommended! SueH
  6. Something similar to this happened on Bath Deep Lock (Kennet & Avon Canal), a Sally Boat got caught on the cill. The canal was closed for quite a long time while they organised its retrieval. We did see it in use again a few months later, seemingly none the worse for wear! There is nothing better than gongoozling on the canals especially near to the locks. There are two on the K&A less then 10 minutes from our bungalow, not to mention a swing bridge. We did a fortnight on the K&A a little while back and did the Caen Hill flight up and back - an itneresting experience. Six hours up Five and a Half back. Hope any trip you take on the canal system works well. It certainly makes you appreciate the broads and lack of locks! SueH
  7. Used ours for the first time in April. It looked really good on the front of MS and a number of people noticed us and either had a chat or waved. It was a bit 'starched' at first but after a few days it was moving with the wind quite well. Excellent quality for what we paid. SueH Sorry I've just noticed that I have added this to the wrong thread - I was talking about the burgee. It's too early in the morning............. S
  8. Morning. First of all congratulations on the new arrival. I relate to this very well. We have been coming to the broads since the mid 80's and although I do steer regularly rarely do the mooring. Bramerton is a good wide area and the common is a good place to use for side on mooring practice as there is a good range of tidal flow on the river. It is getting more popular now that there are more electric points. On the north, something to consider would be Ranworth Island which is stern on and is normally fairly quiet. Enjoy! SueH
  9. Reading this topic has certainly concentrated my mind. I have now placed an order for 'environmentally friendly' washing liquid which I will keep just for our trips in MS. As Janice mentioned, not something I have thought about in the past. SueH
  10. Hi I think that part of the problem with caravan type loos is where to empty them. I remember the public toilets at Womack Water had a sign up saying not to. The chemicals might have some affect on the septic tanks in some of the more remote areas. Not quite as easy as using a pump out I think ............. SueH
  11. Great news. We had to have Rosie spayed as part of the deal with the breeder when we got her. Not a cheap exercise, but worth it in the long term for her health. SueH
  12. It is a pity that (so far as I am aware) there are no web-cams on the Yare near Brooms. It would be nice to be able to look and make sure MS is ok if she is not is use. I'm surprised that Brooms have not invested in one. SueH
  13. My heart goes out to you. Dogs become so much part of the family that it is soul destroying when you lose them, particularly if they are not very old. There are 5 labs in our street and they are all different characters and love nothing else in trying to mob Rosie! Hope all goes well and that it is good news. SueH
  14. Hi We have just bought ourselves a new desktop after the old one died. I have tried to create a homegroup to share files between the laptop and the desktop as both machines are now on Windows7. The laptop can see the desktop files, but the desktop keeps telling me that there is no other 'person' connected. Have been through everything I can think of, and have browsed the internet to no avail (at least for a numpty like me!) Has anyone else had this problem and come up with a solution? Thanks. SueH
  15. Morning all. Syndication of anything works for some, but not others. It relies on everyone pulling their weight and, obviously, taking care of an expensive asset. For those of us who live a fair distance away it is the only way we can get a number of weeks on the broads at a sensible cost. Do your research as Alan has mentioned and just enjoy, whichever boat you go for ........... SueH

    Cats on Boats

Hi - we don't have a cat now, so have never had one on a boat. Living a stones throw from the K&A Canal there are a lot of liveaboards in the area quite a few of them having cats. The animals appear to be content and we never hear of them straying. I think if they are started early they are fine. SueH
  17. Great. Some of MS's ropes are getting very shabby. SueH PS - I'm back, internetless in the caravan (not a proper word I know) - it is surprising how often you use the internet, you don't realise until you haven't got access!
  18. The bane of my life - a pity they haven't designed a robotic mower. It would make the inventor a fortune. Anyroadup. There was I, on a seemingly fair weather forecast deciding that the front needed to have its first tidy up of the year. So, in a bid to embarrass the neighbours managed to get the mower started, not an easy task after being off-line for the winter! Trundled around the front, lo and behold - got soaked and came back to 'him in charge' exceedingly fed up .............. Still waiting to finish the job .. Oh and why don't other dog owners in the street clean up after them ?? We always do, in fact try to stop Rosie 'annointing' other peoples front gardens in the first place. 'Him in charge' says I am getting a right 'grump' in my old age ..........  SueH
  19. I too watched this with interest. It is a shame it is hidden on More4 instead of the more mainstream C4. Years ago we took a 21ft cruiser up Caen Hill (and back) - it was very hard work and the locks were even more stiff than they appeared on the programme. I had an extra long windlass and it was still difficult. Needless to say, the division of labour was the same as on the prog! SueH
  20. Hi He appears to be a regular. When we were on MS 1st March he was sunning himself there then. Another of our partners also saw him the week before. He seemed happy enough both times. SueH
  21. Oh I'm so envious. As everyone else says, now comes the hard bit! Mind you if you are close, then being able to use her at any time you want is magic. What is she called or are you going to rename her? SueH Oh and by the way - pink fenders sound the bizz to me! S
  22. Or if all else fails in our household, HWMBO loses something. I say 'look on the floor', lo and behold there it is. Clutter - not allowed! My mobile vanishes for a pastime, but reappears when using the landline to phone it. Keys and glasses? Don't ask - that is when a not too bad a day turns into a nightmare!! SueH
  23. They all seem to love being on boats don't they? I am worried sometimes though seeing dogs walking up and down the decks of boats seemingly without an owner in sight. Yes they are nimble, but it wouldn't take much for them to fall and the owner not have any idea of what had happened. They are part of the family, but unfortunately - as Frank found last year - they do not live with us for long and each time we lose one it is a huge wrench. SueH
