  1. It's at times like this that we realise how lucky we are and that some of our problems are nothing compared with other things that are happening throughout the world. My thoughts too go to the family of Philip Hughes. Sometimes life is a right *****. Perhaps it is good to not know what the future holds, you would spend all your time looking over your shoulder and not enjoying what you have. SueH
  2. Hi all. I must admit that when we were up there for a fortnight a week ago we also had problems finding somewhere to get rid of the rubbish. It is a problem, as there doesn't appear to be the recycling points either that we are used to. I try to seperate out the various items, but obviously storing them for a while can lead to other problems with smells etc especially in the summer months. Iain. You mentioned that you would be on the rivers for the general election. That got me thinking, after checking the schedule, we also are on the rivers for that date. If I hadn't been following this thread I wouldn't have even thought of this until too late. Will have to apply for a postal vote me thinks. SueH
  3. I read something somewhere, that the old paper copies of the tax discs are being put onto Ebay for silly money. I may put mine on when it expires, just for a laugh. SueH PS - no tax on a 3.0 litre diesel? It costs me £20 a year on my 1 litre petrol Aygo. It would appear that the Audi produces less emissions than the Aygo. Sigh .....................
  4. I haven't had a rod out for a while, but I too have been known to out-do 'him in charge' the Carp in our local canals obviously liked my part of the loaf better. SueH
  5. Matt. At present MS does not have one. We are considering bringing it up at the AGM as 'him in charge' has seen the one on Thunder. SueH
  6. Mandy Loddon Basin is one of our favourite spots for out of season 'trogging'. Using the immersion heater on MS, plus our small leccy heater we can generally get away with £1 a night on the post. If you need any cards, then the pump-out office at Brooms sell them. SueH
  7. Hi, obviously as yet we don't know how well it will wear, but so far so good. Certainly looks like an excellent job. They said that they were very busy, which is good. SueH
  8. This company has just re-upholstered the helm seat of Moonlight Shadow which had deteriorated so much that the fabric had fallen apart and as to the foam ....... We went into their office on Monday saying 'help'. They came out to MS to have a look, we had a quick discussion then he went away coming back with a colour chart. Once we agreed he went away again and ordered the fabric as he did not have it in stock. At about 09:30 on Wednesday we had a phone call to say the fabric had arrived. He picked it up that same afternoon and we picked it up this morning (Friday). Such excellent, friendly service, it looks lovely again with totally new foam and covering. They fitted us in with no notice and I cannot praise them enough. SueH
  9. Good morning on this grey overcast day (or it is South of the M4!) I will now put the 'cat amongst the pigeons' by saying that I always choose by choice to tune into our local 'Beeb' etc when on our travels. The reason being that we, IMHO, have the best one. This is because we have satellite both at home and in the caravan. It is a frustration when on the boat, as it is for the eastern area and as MM says it does not cover Norfolk that well, but mostly for the more southern area. It is a shame but that appears to be the way the country is broken down. Like most other things it appears that everything 'stops at London' and the rest of the country is a poor relation! I now have my hard hat on and brolley raised waiting for the fall-out ............ SueH
  10. Hi Mandy. As I mentioned on the phone, we were on board MS for Christmas Day last year. There was not much boat traffic, and the weather was not too cold. We festooned her with loads of outdoor LEDs and caused quite a stir when we moored down at Loddon, a number of people came along and took her photo! I'll let you know a bit more at the AGM. SueH
  11. https://twitter.com/xh558 Check this out. Some great pictures of the three Sisters flight. Don't know if it will work by clicking on it, but copy/paste for some magical moments! SueH
  12. Only 18, 558, shares left now. It looks like the weather is going to be kind as well. I expect there will be a number of videos on you-tube to see, for those of use who cannot get there on the day. SueH
  13. At the last count they only have 38 £15 shares to be sold (out of the 558) to cover the cost of having 558 attend this event. Our household has done their bit! SueH
  14. Hi all MS has a selection of quilts and pillows. Owners have to bring their own covers and pillow cases. Towels/Tea Cloths are the responsibility of the owners, none are onboard. We bring along our own sleeping bags which is why we don't know what tog the ones on board are. SueH
  15. We certainly manage to cover a wide range of subjects! I agree with Gracie, the forum can become addictive. I also agree with Martin. Thank goodness for the moderators as they sometimes help us from ourselves. Not an easy job - but a thumbs up from me to all of them. SueH
  16. MS also lets people 'share' ownership. SueH
  17. The owners of the two week share (one week spring, one week summer) wish to put their share up for grabs. For those of you who cannot manage four weeks in our favourite holiday area this may well be worth considering. I do not know how much they want. But the sale is being managed by BCBM. Hopefully it will suit someone. If this had been available when we bought in, it may well have been the way we went (but probably not as being up their out of season is rather good as well!) SueH PS hopefully this will not be a duplicated post. My dongle is acting up, the rain/wind here at Plymouth Sound is affecting the Vodaphone line!!!!!!!! S
  18. As Esther Rantzen used to say 'Jobs Worth!' I think we all have horror stories about insurance companies in one form or another. SueH
  19. Great - she has arrived. I see from her schedule that she is due to do a flypast with the British BBMF Lanc at Bournemouth. We are going to be there (or else) to see those two and my favourite a/c theVulcan. The Classic Flight people based in Newquay do pleasure flights in the Dragon Rapide, a Chipmunk, a Percival Prentice to name but a few. They will also give you an aerobatic flight in the Chippy for a fee. We had a flight in the Duxford Cloth Bomber (Rapide) a few years back. Everyone was weighed before going on board and seated to balance the aircraft. SueH PS - sorry Neil our replies crossed in the post! Working at Bournemouth eh - some people have all the luck! PPS - Keith. Martin just mentioned that the South African Lightning met a sad end and did not do the pilot any good either.
  20. Hi - the idea of having a syndicate area sounds excellent. So far as I am aware there is nothing similar available (or if there is I haven't found it!) SueH
  21. Hi Mandy. Congrats. Alan is right, our bags contain more boat kit then clobber nowadays! SueH
  22. Have you seen the diary for the Canadian Lancaster that is starting her flight from Goose Bay to Coningsby today? She will be appearing with the BBMF Lanc in quite a few fly-pasts this coming month, providing she is serviceable of course! A sight not to be missed. SueH
  23. Hi. Rosie has her own life jacket, but recently we have been using a heavy duty car 'harness' that she wears. This is strong enough to grab hold of her and know that she will not get her neck out of her collar as previous corgis have managed. We also make sure that she is not on deck or anywhere she can get off when we are travelling etc. Although she likes water and can swim, corgis are not really designed for this activity!
  24. Pity we bought our own a few years ago. But such a good deal though for other people. SueH
  25. I agree, the most beautiful aircraft ever built (IMHO). We saw her last Saturday at Yeovilton Air Day. Such presence and in our area the majority of the people stood up to watch her. Nowhere near as much interest in the other display aircraft! I am a member of the Vulcan to the Sky Club and this is a charity that gets a lot of donations from our household. It reminds me of when they retired the fleet. I was on duty at Upavon (when it was till RAF and not taken over by the Army), and the shift stopped and went outside when one did a fly-past over the camp. The Vulcan 607 book is most definately worth a read, we bought it in hardback as soon as it was published. SueH
