Been a wonderful day celebrating our sons 30th Birthday

Tomorrow we travel to Norfolk!

We set off from home around 1230 for a leisurely drive, arriving at Ivy's Farm around 3pm

 

 

 

 

It was lovely sat on the decking, albeit a bit warm for Roxy and Yogi

We had a break for an hour and then finished off the last 2 hours of the journey, arriving just after 5pm on what is a glorious evening in the marina

Just unloading the car, getting the berth set up and then it will be a stroll into Horning with the dogs on this relaxing first day for us

We decided against a walk into Horning as the dogs were shattered after the long journey, so we put them in the car again and drove to Roy's car park next to Hoveton Park and took them for a stroll before stopping off for a drink at the King's Head

It was lovely relaxing by the river and the dogs enjoyed sitting or lying down on the grass whilst we had a drink

I then walked to Ken's Chippy for 2 Cod, 1 chips and 1 peas before we headed back to the boat, open a bottle of wine and had our chippy tea

It's lovely now as we are relaxing in the marina and all I can hear is the snoring of my dogs!!!!

And it's a simply stunning evening

She has been moved this morning and is now at the Boat lift.

I already know this was the right move for us and looking forward to many years boating from our new home.

We have been trying to have a stainless Bow guard fitted over the last few weeks. It looks as if George has decided to lift the boat to make it easier for staff.

She was already to be lifted as we left.

We are currently at Ludham Bridge as the rain starts to fall and it's a lot quieter on the rivers than I expected.

We left our mooring around 10am and made our way to Ludham Bridge, watching the wildlife find all manner of locations to rest

We visited Ludham Bridge Stores and took the dogs for a stroll up the riverbank

Before setting off again up the Ant, where we passed someone who shouted "Are you Warren with those big dogs" who was moored at How Hill.

Whoever you are, it was nice to meet your passing acquaintance!

We are now at Gays Staithe have a spot of lunch.

It has rained a bit and it's currently dry, albeit overcast with more rain due this afternoon and evening

It was me Warren, on Springers Retreat. On our way back from the meet to our home mooring at Stalham. I can highly recommend a stop to visit the azaleas and rhodo’s at how hill secret garden on your way back down. Think you’ll find quite a few more forum members up the Ant this afternoon. Have a good holiday. Kate

We are now at Neatished, dodging the rain..

Gays Staithe is a lovely spot and Roxy and Yogi really enjoy the grass area to relax on 

 

 

We had some lunch and then went for a walk and the saying is you can learn something new every day.

Well all the years we have been coming on the broads we never realised there was a car park and toilet block 2 minutes from the Staithe

The weather was fine at this time so we went for a stroll towards Neatished and stopped off for some Raspberry and White Chocolate, salted caramel and cherry and almond bags of fudge from the "Fudge Lady" stall

It is amazing how close you can get to the wildlife, especially when you are with 2 extra large dogs as this Pheasant didn't care less 

When we got to Neatished Staithe we noted there was plenty of moorings and Roxy was a little tired, as it was quite warm out, so Julie sat on the bench at the Staithe and I nipped back to the boat with Yogi

I then brought Moonlight Shadow to Neatished Staithe were we are now moored, as this gives us access to electricity, the bins and is closer to the pub!

I did some messing around with my shore power cables, as I just couldn't get the electrical system to work, so stripped them down and out them back together (as the rain came down heavily, so the footways and cables became sodden) only to find the connection between the cable and the boat had come loose.

I felt myself doing a Russell Thompson...as I said out loud "Oh Maaan!"

But a good day and if this rain stops we will nip to the White Horse for a couple of drinks before eating on the boat

There must be something about Neatishead and MS’s electric cables. The cable didn’t work for us either, but in our case it was the connection with the lug at t’other end.

I saw both Moonlight Shadow and Ranworth Breeze there on Sunday afternoon as I had a wander round the area, but it looked like no-one on board at the time.

Although on Friday I did see Ranworth Breeze at Salhouse and said "hello", but the syndicate member on it wasn't a forumite and so didn't know about the meetup the next day.

We should have taken over Moonlight Shadow on Friday, but were otherwise engaged, so didn't arrive at the Marina until after 5 on Sunday, so you probably missed us

I am going to have another look at the connection to the boat tomorrow, as weren't happy how easily it came away 

Hopefully it's nothing serious and just needs a little tightening up

I have been surprised how many people are running their heaters though as I am really warm and the weather is quite "muggy"

Now back on the boat and I made a Lancashire Hotpot for our evening meal, washed down with a glass or 3 of wine

It's now a lovely evening on the mooring, the birds are singing, the rain has passed and it's lovely and quiet

Thunder is moored further down the dyke and it's now full so no hope for late comers.

We did have a boat try and despite my best efforts to get him to "SLOW" down he insisted on reversing as fast as he could and then when he realised there was no space, leaving as quick as he could...

He didn't cause any damage, but this was more down to owners and hirers feeding his manoeuvres off!

I hope he found a spot....with nobody near him!

I forgot to mention, as we walked back from the White Horse to Neatished Staithe, our attention was drawn to a beautiful white bird in the sky above the farmers field as it flew from our left to right without sound and as we looked it was clearly a beautiful Barn Owl which was out hunting for its next meal.

Moments like this really make our day as we realise why we love Norfolk so much

That would make for a very soggy Yorkshire pud! Personally, I like a bit of pickled red cabbage with my Lancashire Hotpot.
