We have refueled and pumped out ready for our last night on board before the trip home

It was actually fine when we arrived

Yogi watching my every move!

But then came the wind, then the rain and it's a bit lively out there now

I think we made the right choice to head back to our home mooring!

It certainly appears you did make the correct decision, I am hopeful that you had enjoyed your great holiday prior to the stormy weather however

Thank you

We certainly did have a great holiday

Finished off with another lovely meal at the Ferry House, Surlingham

Our table also had our dogs names on it and doggy treats and water for them

Couldn't have wished for a better end to a great holiday

Oh wonderful, what a fantastic way to bring your holiday to an end.

I shall be sure to try and take a visit to the Ferry House when I am next around Surlingham, thank you

I know it's frowned upon, but we actually stayed at Loddon for 2 nights as the tides were a real issue, the domestic batteries were a concern, which meant the webasto heater cut out, so we needed shore power and although we had company on the moorings with 2 private boats and a hirecraft from Brooms on the Saturday, there was still plenty room at Loddon staithe

The evening was lovely and Roxy and Yogi were so relaxed at the very welcoming White Horse Chedgrave

DSC_0272.thumb.JPG.fe1ba5b88f031a825bd6583ac841cb17.JPG

Loddon staithe is particularly pretty at night in December

IMG-20211205-WA0000.thumb.jpg.7dfcbca38dbb92ec4edd8cc203b6aa8a.jpg

We had a couple of drinks in the White Horse then made our way to the Raj to collect an Indian meal we had ordered for collection, which we took back to MS

On the Sunday we moved off and made our way to Rockland St Mary as we planned to try the Sunday roast that evening

IMG-20211205-WA0011.thumb.jpg.2698bf137a93d386b8267c33fe7a3393.jpg

We noted the river had overtopped at Cantley again

IMG-20211205-WA0012.thumb.jpg.b8630e4470e909ba90e3d7c49985dc79.jpg

These high tides did make it a challenge for us with 2 large dogs to consider

IMG-20211205-WA0013.thumb.jpg.289af561ffbd664944f8de642a748907.jpg

But Yogi does love sitting on the back watching the world go by

He is really good and to be fair, both have been brilliant

Another view as we approached Cantley

We noted as we came into the mooring at Rockland St Mary, that the quay heading was being renewed near to the electric post, which was certainly an improvement as there is now some hard standing before you reach the grass

Monday we headed back to our mooring in Brundall before Storm Barra arrives as we decided it would be safer all round if we stayed at our home mooring and visited places by car

We have already visited Wroxham/Hoveton and tonight we plan to drive to the Ferry House, Surlingham for our evening meal as we are heading home tomorrow which was always planned as we have a prior engagement back home

This trip has been a challenge at times, we have had to compromise at times, but it has been thoroughly enjoyable and we certainly recommend those who have not tried it before to give some consideration to winter boating

In poor weather/tide conditions especially off season I suspect the rangers would much prefer you to be tucked up somewhere  safe especially on the way back to base. Just seen (Wed morning) Spirit of Braydon on patrol through Reedham

  • 3 months later...

Start of another trip on Moonlight Shadow, as we were up at 5, packed the car and set off around 6.45 and we had a very easy relaxed run to our first stop to give Roxy and Yogi a walk before we breakfast

We are now sat on the decking in glorious sunshine at Ivy's Farm

Couldn't have wished for better weather....

It may not to last, but we do intend to make the most of it.

Just a warning for those travelling from the West and cross Sutton Bridge.

The roadworks are a shambles!

There isn't much notice as you approach, but the right hand lane you normally take to cross the bridge is shut at the roundabout before the bridge

There is no warning of this so you get a chaotic scene as locals who know it's shut, stay in the nearside lane and try to undercut those who aren't aware it's shut and what we saw was akin to the start of the Le Man's with everyone jostling for a place.

It took 15 minutes to get through which isn't bad, but the traffic was light and it's very early in the season!

I wouldn't want to go that route in the holiday period!

But we made it and Roxy and Yogi soon settled into their routine

MS looked a bit grubby, but we put that down to the weather of late and she wasn't used last week

So one of my jobs this week is to get her sparkling again

IMG-20220326-WA0001.thumb.jpg.b06193d47bdd59209fa0f6b83e9e7ea7.jpg

We even found a spot for Julie's flowers our son Mike sent her

IMG-20220326-WA0003.thumb.jpg.826f5df96a233a767878b269b6c7a5cd.jpg

The new dashboard was looking good and I can confirm the new engine was lovely and quiet and turned over beautifully

DSC_0052.thumb.JPG.c364890f2e4fa262ca2d5b5257005e8c.JPG

We are now at the Ferry House after a run up towards Bramerton, before turning and heading to our overnight mooring

I've just come through the Bridge works, coming home from Norfolk. I was queuing for about 25 mins. The sign says lane closures in operation to July. OMG

That's going to be a nightmare...

Alternative route needed!

Roadworks start on the A11 around Wymondham and Attleborough soon with a contra flow on one carriageway that are planned to last a year.  That will take care of the A11/A14 option.  You could stay on the A47 and go through to Peterborough to pick up the A1.

I tried to upload these photos also, but every time I did they were sideways for some reason!

Exactly what’s been happening to mine from my iPhone. I haven’t been doing anything different. Is this a technical issue forum end?

I’ve had the same problem with iPhone photos.  I found that going into edit and rotating the photos 360 degrees fixed it for me.  Might be worth a try.

How anti social! Swmbo spent two hours cleaning Sahara sand off the boat earlier and you go and take a piccie in the pub direction now it doesn't look like a sand heap.... :default_biggrin:

Nice to meet you, very cute doggies!

Lovely to meet you both too

AND Snowbird looks stunning!

❤️

Although she may be in trouble if you try to move whilst facing down hill......🤣😂🤣
