Wasn’t a bright yellow Richardson’s boat, maybe Melody or Orion, by any chance? 
He seemed to want a particular mooring spot at How Hill (plenty more were available) and dived across the river full throttle to get into it ahead of a boat coming the other way, leaving the other boat no room to go anywhere apart from into the spot that ‘angry man’ wanted. Only a lot of smoke out of his exhaust prevented a certain high speed collision!

Dogs were disturbed at 6am by the peaceful sound of a boat heater nearby so I am up, the dogs have had their first walk of the day and now the kettle is on.

I don't know why someone needs their heater on, as it is a very mild morning again with little breeze, it has rained again overnight, but it is currently dry.

There was no space on the free moorings at the end of Richardson's when I came past just now, but there is space on stalham staithe as I type, this is where I have moored to go find a new phone.

Moorings full here now, just had to do sim card surgery as the new phone takes a nano SIM, and my old card was a standard one.,missing some contacts, that were in the phone memory, not the SIM, but back up and running mostly.

Managed to get into Stalham Staithe 2 minutes before the heavens opened!

Had the top down and was just approaching Paddy's lane when the heavens just opened, everything was soaked by the time I had the top up, only a short stop here while I sit out the worst of the rain.

Hopefully the worst of the rain has passed.

We visited Stalham and picked up some provisions from Tesco, before heading back to the boat.

The dogs have had a good walk around Richardson's Marina 

We have had a spot of lunch and I even fished out a floating fender near to Stalham Staithe, which still had the holder and screws attached, so don't want to know how that got ripped off!

Anybody missing a blue fender and metal eyelets with 4 screws drop me a message

We have had a few hire boats come up the dyke to the Staithe and really struggle to turn and I wonder why if they are novices would they not just go to Richardson's Marina

Anyway we are setting off towards Sutton Staithe shortly and I can report the sun is now beating down

Nice to see Moonlight Shadow on Stalham Staithe. It's an encouragement to us to wander down there some time.

Ah, just where I was moored, so far we have had 2 really hard downpours, the seconds was accompanied by hail, I am glad I didn't have to drop the roof for ludham bridge, anyway stopped at the very end of womak dyke moorings for something to eat, I may stop here overnight.

We were just mooring at Sutton Staithe when it hit!

Table booked for tonight as we are eating out this evening and we are now sat outside in lovely warm conditions!

Tomorrow is meant to be quite lively for wind and rain I believe as the jet stream will be right over us, hopefully it will settle by next weekend as we're off bobbing for the week then.

Even with the sun out, I have left the canopy up, the weather changes too quickly, I do have my solar panel out charging the solar generator.

Is it ethical to ask a fellow boater to turn off their engine?

Arrived at Sutton Staithe around 1.30pm and the boat directly behind me was running it's engine......

We are stern to stern!

It's 20 past 5 and they are STILL running their engine!

I am sure the water will be warm enough, the batteries charged enough....They can't still be using the microwave!

My neighbours engine is still running, but a am facing forward into the sun and trying to let the surroundings forward be my focus

It's fine to go and ask them if they need assistance with their electrical system, and if it's not holding charge to maybe let the yard know, who will then bring out a new set of batteries.

So we have photos taken both fore and aft, showing the name  of the boats moored next door. I thought "naming and shaming"  was not allowed on this forum?

It is commonly accepted that one should not run an engine on moorings after 8PM although this is not a legal requirement.  I have not heard of anything to prevent someone charging their batteries in the afternoon, should they wish.

Byelaw 84 Emission of Smoke or Fumes or the Making of Noise

The master of a vessel shall not permit the vessel to emit smoke or fumes or make any noise or nuisance which gives reasonable grounds for annoyance to any other person.

The above is the actual byelaw, as opposed to the oft quoted unofficial BA advice which contravenes their own byelaw, re running of engines after 8pm. The advice leads lots of people to assume it must be legitimate to run engines before 8pm, NOT if it is in contravention of byelaw 84.

Wonderful meal at the Sutton Staithe Hotel

Julie had cod and chips and I went for chilli and rice with a side order of fries and we both thought it was delicious

 

So much so our plates were cleared

Back on Moonlight Shadow with a glass of wine and a relaxing evening with the dogs

Still the odd shower, but this evening does appear drier than it has been during the day

We highly recommend the Sutton Staithe Hotel which is dog friendly and serves good wholesome fair

This morning we set off just after 8am and "bimbled" down the Ant and now we are moored at one of our favourite locations, albeit we rarely get in as there is only space for 2, maybe 3 boats and that is Irstead Staithe

Relaxing now with a cup of coffee at this lovely location.

The canopy is down, but there was a stiff breeze as we crossed Barton Broad

Roxy and Yogi are now chilling on the grass

I came very close to stopping there yesterday as there was a space, but I had decided to go a bit further and ended up at womak dyke.

What a wonderful day

We left Sutton Staithe as you know just after 8am and made our way to Irstead Staithe, where we rarely have been able to moor, but on this occasion we were lucky so stopped off for a bit of breakfast and a doggy break.

Then we made our way to Ludham Bridge, where we stopped for lunch and I ended up helping a new hirer who was struggling to leave his mooring.

We headed down stream and moored on the starboard bank, whilst a Richardson's boat was on the port bank prior to the bridge.

Try as he might, he could not get off the bank and I saw numerous people on the same side as he, just watching.....

I couldn't sit and watch so I walked down the footpath, over the bridge and up to this poor guy who was shaking and very worked up as the tide was running out, the wind was blowing him back on the bank and he was brand new to boating so didn't really understand what he was doing wrong.

Against his better judgement I advised him to firstly calm down and remember, that we were all novices once.

I then advised him, that turning the wheel when in reverse had little or no affect.

So he was advised to go forwards with left hand down to push his rear out and then put her in reverse (language like this made it easier for him to understand) whilst turning the wheel hard to starboard.

Then when clear of the mooring select forward and you will be able to go ahead without being pinned to the quay.

The smile on his face was worth the walk round and over Ludham Bridge when he was able to head away unheaded.

We then made our way to Salhouse Broad, passing a moored Water Rail.

We had a walk up to the Fur and Feather and now we are back on board having another thoroughly relaxing evening
