Sam
What about putting her bed at the side of yours. Just a thought.
Ray
It does sound like a seperation anxiety, Sam's idea sounds good. If you prefer to keep her out of your bedroom you could try keeping some old clothing of yours that you put down in her bed but only when you retire for the night and take up again in the morning. Vaughan
Very sorry to hear this. A lot of people with working gun dogs will get a puppy when their dog is getting older, and they will soon get on very well together. They say you can't teach an old dog new tricks - but an old dog can certainly teach a new one some tricks!
JanetAnne
Leave the radio on or the telly. Just like us your dog is used to the noises of another being around them.
Chelsea14Ian
It's a very sad time.Try reassuring your dog as often as possible. Like any loss will take time to get over the sadness, for people and animals. Worth speaking to the vet,who may have advice.
OldBerkshireBoy
When my sister had one of hers put to sleep after 13yrs the vet said to bring the other dog in as well, once the deed was done the second dog took one sniff of his mate and seemed to realise and understand straight away. No wandering around the house looking for his mate or anything. Bit late now of course but may help others in the future.
grendel
it seems similar with cats, when one takes the final journey to the vets the others seem to spend ages searching for it, when one has died at home, they seem to understand. CambridgeCabby
So sorry to hear of your loss , and yes it sounds like separation anxiety , sadly time and comfortIng are the only way to ease the situation. We have two border collies and the bitch is impossible when the dog is out of her eyesight , if I take the dog up to the village pub the bitch will literally howl constantly at home until they are reunited, even though she is with Katie and my son so I have to take both or none .
Lulu
So sorry about your hound :( there are lots of You Tube relaxation music channels for dogs. They run for hours so would easily cover overnight
