Broads01
I want to buy a portable low wattage heater for using when hiring and on shore power. I'm looking for something compact but effective. Does anyone have any recommendations as to make and model?
MauriceMynah
This will rather depend on what you're trying to achieve. Toasty warm or the chill taken off, and the volume you are trying to warm. I use the 500 watt oil filled radiators to heat the forward areas of Nyx. The cockpit has the chill taken off or my small cabin too warm for my likes. I run up to 3 of them. 1 in my cabin, 1 in the whole forward area, and the third in the wheelhouse. Hope that helps.
Smoggy
A small thermostatic fan heater will do just run it on low power, it's all we use during winter over night when plugged in just give it a boost from the boats own heating when leaving the pub (other hostelries are available-apparently) so it's toasty and shut off before you go to bed and let the fan heater keep the edge off overnight, once you are in bed it shouldn't be a problem. Luckily I can phone the boats heating when ordering the last pint so it's toasty on arrival.
CambridgeCabby
The small units that plug into a power socket directly , which I believe Grendel has tried , seem to be the obvious choice https://www.amazon.co.uk/Russell-Hobbs-RHPH2001-Ceramic-Heater/dp/B07V3FQ69Y/ref=asc_df_B07V3FQ69Y/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=389268948172&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=8650631082214405252&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1006598&hvtargid=pla-832793258052&psc=1&th=1&psc=1&tag=&ref=&adgrpid=79631491836&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvadid=389268948172&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=8650631082214405252&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1006598&hvtargid=pla-832793258052
bucket
We have a 500 watt 'Grandma Shark' oil filled radiator. Nice and quiet, enough heat for one cabin while on low. Was £35 from the rainforest. 1
Karizma
we've got a 1500 watt Schallen Oil Filled Radiator Heater from Amazon that we use when connected to shore power. in hindsight, it certainly doesn't need to be this powerful for the boat, but works great.
ZimbiIV
We have a small ceramic heater from B&M, it plugs direct into the socket so I made a 10 foot extension lead to move it nearer to us(suitably propped up). Used it last year was great. It always goes with us if we are self-catering. paul

SteveO
We have a 500 Watt DimplexColdwatcher convector, which is intended for greenhouse heating but is great for heating the sleeping cabin on our boat. I bought it second hand on Ebay for the princely sum of £14.
