riyadhcrew
I said to my other half that I fancied a few beers, so at the minute, I am checking the car and packing a suitcase. Myself, wife and 2 daughters will be leaving at 2.00am UK time tomorrow morning to drive 1050km from Riyadh to Dubai, so I can indulge in my fancy. I've done a few hours on the broads in the past to get to a good restaurant, but I think this is taking it to the extreme. Never mind, when I get my lips around a pint of John Smiths or Kilkenny, it will all be worth while, although the drive back may not be so good.

riyadhcrew
Thanks Alan. Actually, there is a hotel bar which is closer. It's only 879km away, but I want the choice in Dubai.
BroadScot
Hi Eric, Just been thinking, John Smiths should commission you for an advert, how far would you go for a pint of John Smiths Iain.
ranworthbreeze
Probably further than a pint of Sam Smiths Regards Alan

BroadScot
Dave, There were, possibly still are, a lot worse pints than JS. I would imagine Eric remembering Dryboroughs Sludge I called it Or worse the first I ever sampled on the Broads...Watneys Draught Red Barrell...yuck! Iain
riyadhcrew
Watneys Red Barrell should have carried a "Government Health Warning". Ist prize in the pub raffle was a free pint and second prize was 2 free pints.
Happy
My local is owned by and old Kent Brewery-Shepherd and Neame-deffinately an aquired taste! The locals call it .hit and Screem. BroadScot
What about Bullards and Lacons and worst of all Tolly Cobbold! Err...will I quarintine that lot Dave? I do remember sampling Tolly Cantab250 rocket fuel in a small bottle. Walter Coe sold it at The Locks Inn! Alan, I have sampled The Bishops Finger in my time , but found the Spitfire ale a bit dry for my pallet, probably the water? Iain.
MauriceMynah
1050Km huh? That's 9.2 miles (very aproximately) less than the distance between John O'Groats and Lands End. This will make it just a tiny bit tricky to beat on mainland Britain. I shall have to think about this one!
riyadhcrew
MM, I'll get my wife to take a few pics and I'll post them for a laugh. A bit different from reeds and wind pumps.
Mowjo
When I was much younger, lived in London and drank mainly Youngs beer, I once went out on a Friday evening and woke up Saturday in Newquay Cornwall, only about 250 miles but as to this day I still have no idea how I got there does that count?? Frank,,,,
Baitrunner
Frank, Beer fairies do that i am told. They also make you forget saying things and making promises (like I will do the decorating dear). Can't believe no one has mentioned a good old pint of Wherry as it is the broads forum. Eric, So how much is a pint in Dubai then? Hopefully more expensive than the petrol?
riyadhcrew
Hi Mark, Haven't been in Dubai for about 5 years, so not sure on the price of beer or petrol, but I will let you know when I get back next Monday.
Timbo
What always got me about drinking in Bahrain was sitting next to the door in O'Neil s. Inside it was like being in my local O'Neil s in Bradford but outside... I'd end up sat for hours nursing a pint knocking the door open with my foot. Pub....camels...pub...camels...pub...camels...pub...camels...pub...camels...Gulf Air Girl...camels...pub...camels...pub...camels...

BroadScot
Hi Mark, IF Eric finds a nice bottle of Cardhu I widny be so sure he will be back home on Monday As for Wherry ale, I was very happy with a pint or six of Broadside. Iain.
Baitrunner
Iain one of my favourites but I don't like to let the Suffolk boys get too big headed. The adnams gin is also very nice.
Timbo
I gave you a like for your Post Timbo but admitting to going into 2 O'Neils????? It was very close! Dave I do have an excuse...I got paid to drink in O'Neils in the UK...well I got paid to play skiddley diddley but in true Blues Brothers style the bar bill was often more than the fee for playing.
Baitrunner
Eric, I have just read the new tram system is now operational in Dubai - at least you wont have to persuade someone to drive you to the pub now
Paul
1050km for John Smiths. Crikey. Most people would drive that far to avoid the stuff. Don't you have camels in Saudi? A likeness between John Smiths and Camel Pee comes to mind.
Baitrunner
Paul, Why did you try camel pee? Becks is a far more expensive alternative
