Blowing a Hooley

If that is how you spell Hooley.    We are near to Beccles and by Jim it has been very windy.   The daffs are all flattened.    The temporary greenhouse (one of these plastic things ) is ripped.     I am wondering what it is like on Breydon today.

Was sat in the bar at the Wherry when the storm really flared up with hailstones and spray whiting out the Broad for thirty seconds or more, amazing sight. Watched a large cruiser come down the Broad, when she turned into the wind she rolled a treat and until she headed into the lee of the yacht station it looked as if they were having difficulty turning her into the wind. Local paper says wind of 55 m.p.h. but I seriously reckon in that one squall at least, judging by the waves rushing down the Broad, it probably exceeded that.

A pity you did`nt get any pictures or film footage on your phone Peter.  When we were on Lightning last October when it flooded at Beccles, we were cruising at around 4-5mph, and the wind almost knocked us to a stanstill. Never been on the Broads in wind like it, and the same with the floods at beccles. Nearly 2ft over the quay heading. I had to wear several bin liners over each leg to wade in and cast off, and the tide was still coming up. And yes, i did get some pics, which i posted elsewhere on here.

Yes, the XC weather forecast site is predicting gusts up to 60 mph on Tuesday.

It looks as though it starts to calm down a bit from Thursday onwards, so that ties in quite well with those charts.

According to a contribution on Face Book by the Grt Yarmouth and Gorleston RNLI a cruiser ran aground on Breydon in appalling conditions. They had to be pulled off by the ILB and escorted to safety in gale force winds and very limited visibility.

But where was the Spirit of Breydon. It did not get a mention.

Yes, we're getting the full effect now, as the xc weather site shows at 6:30 this morning.

The pressure reached the bottom of its dip at 3.00 am, and started to rise from 996.

The gusts over Norfolk are predicted to stay at 60mph 'ish until late this evening.

Thinking of Geoff and Audrey who are out on Moonlight Shadow this week!

We are coming down on Saturday so fingers crossed it will of calmed down by then. It was quite windy last time we came down which was exciting for the first day but the novelty soon wore off after a few nights off sloshing and rolling about!

Increase the getting Sloshed! :naughty:  It will numb the rolling about and you wont feel or hear a thing!

cheers Iain
