We left the portable radio in my car at the Yard, no radios on the boats then, I phoned Dick and asked what time he closed as we were down at Horning and I had been offered a lift back from a local. Dick asked where were we moored, and later brought the radio down to us as he had the Car Keys with the car being under cover. It was the day the Falklands War began. His son in law I think I met once there, but could be wrong. As you said a lovely couple. Iain.
Hi Gramps, Plenty of turning space before Bishopsgate Bridge at the Yacht Station. Pending what year you used Hearts or later New Horizon at Thorpe, the parking was in a grass compound down the road. I always parked my car myself there. The tide rises quite quick at Thorpe Green so watch your height. You can see the width in this pic at the Yacht atation.
Agree about Thorpe Green, and taking a bus into the city, but, it use to be a limited service, and stopped quite early I seem to remember? It could of course have been changed. Lovely spot. Began many holidays from the old Hearts yard. Iain.
In the days of Dick and Gwen Sabberton, when I hired their boats - even in October - they were like first day out for a new season, many then were woodie tops, great boats to handle. As you say, spotless, and so nice to have the beds made up on arrival. Iain.
Thank you The Q, we would have been this week had the boat been available! Will keep an eye on their site. I often wonder how many Electricians make model railways a hobby. When I was a member of our local club, many moons ago, there were seven of us who were sparks. Iain.
Hi Ian, We have a shop in Troon now for the RNLI, always busy. I don't think some folks realise just how much it costs to run one of these modern Lifeboats. We are very fortunate here, that Tunnock's of Uddingston has been a major sponsor for many decades. Also the boat is fuelled up I believe at cost price. It will soon be the busy season here once the weather deteriorates. The boat was out in the bay today for weekly training. Wishing you well in your collections. Iain
Mark, Considering Howard has covered many miles and drank gallons on our behalf, to ensure the beers are drinkable... Woodfordes should deliver a barrel a month personally to him Iain.
With regards to a Hampton Safari 25 Mk2 "Sunmist" Grace, http://www.broads.org.uk/wiki/index.php5?title=Boat_Details&BoatId=4470&BoatHistory=6846 that one, yes it handled a "rough" crossing with a bit of bobbing up and down! P&H went overboard to excuse a pun in cupboard layout on her, so we had to check all the cupboards to check nothing was damaged, after we crossed and stopped at Berney Arms. Super little boat to hire she was. Iain
