  1. We had a lovely little wooden boat out on Windermere, electric engined.
  2. I'd go for ' The Broads are ' and 'The Broads NP isn't ' myself.
  3. We saw a nice little Drascombe strutting her stuff on Coniston, Peter
  4. No, a real one! Work took me to Derbyshire, so we decided to make a break of it, and stayed a few nights in the lovely Peak District, followed by a visit to The Lake District. We had to get afloat, and considered a day ticket on the Windermere lake 'steamers', but when we saw that they were fairly bristling with folk, opted for an electric day boat instead. This was absolutely the right choice. The handover included advice such as ,'they are all bigger than you, so keep out of everybody's way' and 'stay near the middle of the lake you will see more that way' a line repeated verbatim the next day when we hired one on Coniston. Here is a quick pic of Steam Yacht Gondola on Coniston. IMG_0873.MOV
  5. That happened to a colleague who handed back a piece of litter and got punched in the face. It did come to court, but I am unable to recall the outcome.
  6. I think, i form Broads Control and the Police, return the rubbish to the hire yard for disposal.
  7. Love the idea of maple chips, we put wine in the reservoir to flavour chicken and that is nice. I wouldn't be so confident of the smoke guidance, but then I am a pessimist.
  8. Cobb fuel marketed as Cobblestones
  9. We have a Cobb, and it is good in all the ways Stuart says, except for the charcoal briquettes. We have never got a sufficient heat with anything other than the Cobb own brand fuel discs. These are recycled coconut husks with impregnated starter fuel and really work well for us. Maybe if we had longer to linger over the BBQ then the suggested 4 briquettes would eventually come good, but the Cobb fuel does the job. Lakeland now sell a gas version too. You have no worries with the BBQ damaging the ground as with some because it's actually fine to use it on almost any surface, we put ours on a wooden table. Just a point of caution, because of the cool sides you can pick it up and move it about, one person told me she used hers in the boat! Carbon monoxide warning! I always leave ours ashore to the next morning if possible, or at least remove the fuel basket, and the fuel just crumbles to dust.
  10. How is/are the Cat'sWhiskers? I recall Elisa telling me she was on show at the Horning Boat Show, so I popped aboard but missed seeing Elisa, there. The boat was beautiful.
  11. We came to the Broads in the mid 90s when the lock slaves, I.e. Warp, our daughter and their various friends made their own holiday plans rather than narrowboating with us. 'Let's try the Broads, I suggested, there are no locks to open.' We got HW's catalogue and discovered they would let idiots like us out on Saily things, never tried before. We hired Ladybird and booked two days tuition at Wroxham Broad. Motoring up wasn't unusual, we had motored many times before, the bungalows were a surprise though! My really memorable moment was on day two of our tuition, it was an almost still morning, we got the sails up and ghosted down to meet our tutor. Sold! 100% on sailing but with it all to learn of course.
  12. Steve at the Granary Ranworth generally gets one in his garden.
  13. Woodbastwick is A Cator. Ranworth is part of the estate of Charles Cator who very sadly died and is much missed.

    My Day

It went into the Bank of Good Deeds!
  15. Robin, the young professionals might go for a heritage with comfort approach. Hunters are very busy, but not for the faint hearted! Big grants to improve the comfort in traditional boats such as the Judiths and the Javelins might also pay off. Whelpton's have Lutra, and she is a real beauty and comfortable, for the young professionals, it would be something completely different.
  16. It will be good to see Malanka back out and about.
  17. Excellent news, you guys have been missed.
  18. Happy Easter to everyone. We will be ashore, but with family around which will be lovely.
