  1. Spider, superb! Thanks for setting the bar for others to follow.
  2. Is it just me but I often find 'new content' by scanning all the threads, clicking on 'View New Content' doesn't necessarily find it all. Shame, because the idea is good.
  3. No problem with covers, so long as there is a good through draft and ventilation in the boat. I was onboard a boat the other day & whilst I admired the obvious skill of the owner in refitting it over the last few years I did wonder, to myself, how well it was ventilated. Everything fitted so perfectly and but not a sign of ventilation anywhere! We put an all over cover on my daughter's woody but there is a gap at both ends, rain resistant I might add, costs nothing but saves problems, even for a tupperware!
  4. Just a thought, I have previously raised the point that the boardwalk is not just for boaters thus the cost should be spread across tolls and into the National Park grant that covers other users. I wonder too if the Hire Boat Federation would dip their hand into their undoubted coffers for a contribution, their members have boats that break down there, or the local parish council might even see the advantage of the boardwalks existence. Whatever, I don't see why boaters should shoulder the full cost when it is also used by other folk. MM, edited to say that I see that we now have some similar thoughts!
  5. Got to say that I was wondering if there is sufficient interest & whether we should let this one quietly drop, at least for this year. We need thirteen good, attractive pictures, we haven't got them, yet. Other forums have their calendars, I thought it would be nice if we had ours too. It's up to you good folk, but, personally, I would like to see a calendar that we can be really proud of. Many people have framed pictures on their boats, be good if they wanted to replace those tired, faded prints with the ones from their calendars at the end of next year!
  6. Not only broken down boats but also broken down people and dogs that need their 'walkies'. Both Strowie & Dave raised the 'political' issue. I'm sure that both remember the Tory promise to take the quangos in hand. The BA had cuts but other than that it escaped major changes, those promised buts basically bypassed the BA's upper echelons, The reality is that the BA is too small an issue for Westminster to bother with and, dare I say it, senior officers know that. Perhaps the costs of the boardwalk should be spread across the board so to speak, it is not just there for boaters. Personally, as a boater, I have never moored there, but I have used the boardwalk as both a photographer and a birdwatcher.
  7. Of course, Strowager, you are quite right but there is an alternative conclusion worth considering. So many people have simply taken it for granted, with little or no question, that moorings are at risk under the present leadership at Yare House, hardly a significant vote of confidence.
  8. I agree about Trudi, a good friend to the Broads. If it is just the boardwalk rather than the mooring then I have no regrets about signing. The boardwalk not only links the moorings to the mainland but it also links the mainland to the moorings, great for people who want to view the Broad, I think that that is rather special.
  9. I could suggest many ways by which the Authority could save money but closing the Paddy's Lane mooring would not be one of them. Signed.
  10. Poppy, I'd put a suitably shaped cut out in the boom.
  11. Chimbly or Chimney? Chimbly in Suffolk! Anyway, that is not the question, but has anyone experience of fitting the flue through a wooden roof in either a shed or a boat? Any advice gratefully received.
  12. John, it was how it was back then. We did finish them off with humane killers/pistols. A coypu froze when cornered so shooting was easy. Would I do it now? I doubt it. Dave, we supplied either bodies or gnashers to an official trapper, actually I don't recollect handing over anything other than a body for him to deal with. I too had heard it was tails but maybe he sold on 'both ends' and made double the money! Actually I doubt that, he was a licensed trapper. A relation of mine used to make sausages out of coypu during WWII and continued doing so well into the 50's. Don't think that I ever eat one though, I hope! Whether it was necessary or not I'm not convinced. The sometimes extensive damage to banks by their burrowing was pretty amazing but beyond that I never saw any impact.
  13. http://www.edp24.co.uk/lifestyle/when_the_coypu_was_public_enemy_no_1_in_norfolk_1_3794896 One winter, early 60's, was a real freezer, Oulton Broad iced up until March. Back then we got ten bob for each pair of Coypu front gnashers that we handed in. Poor old Coypu had to cross the ice to get from A to B and that is when we got them, skating faster than they could run. We also set traps, all very profitable.
  14. As requested, good luck, Revilo! Tractor tyres are good, won't need 100 of then.
  15. I'll put my head on the block here & suggest that allowing dogs off the lead on a site that promotes its environmental credentials is something of a contradiction. ' I am really anxious if a dog off lead approaches me , having been mauled in the past.' My wife and I too.
  16. Hope that some ****** doesn't come along and nick it all off the roof.
  17. For the life of me I can't see what you guys find as funny about this video! Perhaps one of you could explain,
  18. Ventilation is a wondrous thing! Hermetically sealing a boat is not, in my opinion, a good idea. On leaving a boat for any time I would leave the mattresses standing on their sides leaning against the bunk sides. The more air can move about a boat the better e.g. drawers and cupboard doors left ajar.
  19. Now, what should I buy as a pressy for my boat?
  20. The idea of flashing lights is a good one. Once the ferry has started its journey it is committed so those of us in the know keep clear, but not everyone is in the know it seems.
  21. I think that they relied on luck and bending reeds!
