  3. ah the good old days of biodegradable boats that mostly went under all of the bridges.
  4. if its anything like moderating this forum, a bit like juggling live chickens, one of whom may have swallowed a hand grenade

  10. due to where my house is situated in relation to the road, i would have to remove the battery from the vehicle to charge it, which would then mean leaving the car unlocked while the battery charged, the alternative of running a 50m extension to the car would leave a trip hazard on two footpaths and across a neighbours entrance way. thus the option of running the car a few miles further was by far the best / easiest one. my ex mother in law received her first vaccine jab yesterday, so prefers to stay indoors for the next few weeks until the vaccine becomes effective so the fresh food run was an essential part of that plan. since my ex - her daughter has moved to spain, this has left me as her only support, thus i am acting as the support in 2 bubbles, once a month each spacing visits 2 weeks apart between bubbles, which is about the best i can practically achieve to keep both my parents and ex mil safe, but supported, the car is the other essential link in the support chain.
  11. today i did some shopping for an elderly person (my ex mil) whilst also doing my shopping. as i had had to use a jump battery to start the car first thing when i did the 5 mile drive to deliver it, once on the m2 i drove down to dover, round the roundabout and back to deliver the shopping, this gave the car a better charge in the hope it will start ok next weekend, necessary in a way to keep the battery charged, anyway battery charged, and shopping delivered.
  12. harold a underhill plans are still available to purchase, it seems that there are quite a few.
  13. post 1897 as that was when Harold A Underhill was born, so by my best estimates, maybe during the war for boatbuilders working toward the war effort, or post war, some of his books have a published date as late as 1987
  14. it does look a bit sad, just looked on the boats database, only 2 are reported as going into private hands, nos 4 & 6, they did take a few into the sheds for renovation, Jayne was taken out of service and replaced with jayne 2 in 2019 (I know as i was the first to hire the new one and took her to the wooden boat show in 2019.) she had been in the water 2 hours when I picked her up, and I had to wait for some finishing touches to be added (like the toilet roll holder) still they are nice boats (and amongst the few that can regularly traverse under Potter heigham Bridge)
  15. certainly bears all the characteristics, it wouldnt surprise me if they bought it themselves and restored it for their fleet (or just kept it for spares)
  16. currently running a dell latitude d630 as one of my machines, it has an ubunto linux operating system, and runs smoother and faster than my up to date work laptop, usually booting and useable before the work dell has even finished getting to the power on password.

  21. any key worker should have been issued with a covering letter to show if stopped, i know my company issued them back at the beginning of november. as if we cant get where needed people could lose their electricity.
