Breydon Bridge Currently Not Operational!
grendel replied to ranworthbreeze's topic in Broads Authority Notices
I hope they get it fixed soon - independance will be trying to get through in a couple of weeks -
its not as if the public car park is a million miles from the site really, atleast the loading / unloading is allowed for.
-
it was bad enough in kent, - a 3 hour sit on the slip road from the A2 to the M25 as they had shut the bridge. left home at 6.10 am - arrived at work 10.45am

I recall Robin saying one of the team was a diver, and going to inspect her bottom. -
perhaps someone has complained that vans have parked and blocked the view of the bridge from the camera?

Jay, get the wife a new pair of high heels at the same time, then she will never catch up with you after she finds out about the women.

my parents empty the ash tray from their fire on a daily basis, there is a built in tray for this, but they still have to carry it through the house.

to comment back to a post from the last page, I find that having enough knowledge to come up with a possible diagnosis for a fault, is usually enough to stop most garages trying it on, I can do pretty much anything on my car- up to and including an engine re-build (and have done in the past) but sometimes, you just dont want to spend the time and effort to do it yourself, get cold and mucky, and generally have the faff. so you go in and ask the professionals to do the job. my local garage (on the estate where I work) know I can do most jobs - at last years MOT the car failed on a suspension ball joint, the part was ordered by me for next day before 10 am delivery to my work place, at lunch time the suspension arm was removed and replaced, and by 2pm the car was outside the garage that did the MOT ready for re-test, they took a quick look, saw the new part, and issued me with the pass certificate. then I changed out of my overalls, cleaned up and went back and worked all afternoon satisfied with a job well done. Thus now we have discussions when work needs doing, but they are generally about the technical details, and I dont get the normal bulls**t that some garages try and give their customers, I get charged a fair hourly rate that corresponds to the amount of work that needs to be done, and they do a good job. another garage that tried it on when I took my car in for air con service and regas, lost a customer forever, when their mechanic tried to tell me he would have to test the system for leaks using nitrous oxide rather than inert nitrogen. I had pre-booked and pre paid for this service, but after that their head office got a complaint, and the payment was refunded. i think the moral of the story is that you need to know enough about your system to be able to cope in an emergency, and be able to tell if someone is trying to pull the wool over your eyes, but you dont have to do the work yourself under normal conditions. -

I think that by us asking the questions, and Robin answering them, he is gaining a lot of knowledge from our asking and him answering, I think by the time he has finished explaining it to the rest of us, his knowledge of his fuel system will be as good as any boat yards. -

I calculate that using those fillers, to fill up in less than about an hour would be a miracle. just a thought, the centre tank is sealed, does it have a vent, if not then as it fills from near the bottom, any trapped air will stay there. -
Well as you can see the side decks have nearly reached the front deck, and the curved front deck supports are going in as fast as they come out from being steam curved. after this the decks will be templated and cut out, then used as templates for the top rails before they are fitted.

you have also previously mentioned new battery banks, depending upon the weight, maybe these could be used as ballast by siting them correctly. -

Robin, when you were cleaning the fuel and returning it to the opposite tank, I seem to recall it did not take too many hundreds of litres to create a list, OK we can assume double the weight as if 200 litres was moved off of one side and added on the other, thats a net transfer of about 400kg in relation to the centre of gravity. so I would think you are not looking at too much ballast. depleted uranium masses half as much again as lead, and I am sure there are a few nuclear power stations (or waste treatment plants) that have plenty to spare. -

I was wondering the same thing, maybe the crane could be balanced up with an adjustment of some equipment / ballast / Robin. balancing it out using fuel levels is a temporary solution at best, plus I would imagine that in heavy seas, although the pipe is only small diameter, it might be better to run with the link closed in case a list develops, as once there is a list, the fuel transfer could make it worse. -
they should level out eventually.

ah but it is 11% off at the moment so is an utter bargain.

we had a wooden board to hold up to get it drawing.

it does make it seem (until you scroll down) as though it was boats involved in the crash.

surely with modern laser cutting accurate techniques, an inlaid panel is no longer an expensive item to produce.

my parents are now in their eighties, yet all their life everything has been unplugged before they go to bed, my mother wont have a washing machine (electricity + water = bad) but still has a gas copper for boiling the sheets, this plugs into a gas outlet on the cooker (the trouble they had getting a new cooker that supported an external gas outlet to plug this into)

in some respects health and safety is now a bit overzealous, however, reduced accidental death figures do support their policies, the workplace (especially in construction) is now a safer place to work. it used to be the most dangerous profession, for bad falls, now I am told it is window cleaners (the sort that go from house to house) - with falls from ladders.
