  1. I may need to modify my jig to get a little more rake on the edge, just to give more clearance behind the cutting edge - leaning the jig back away from the wheel should achieve this (ie planing a chamfer on the edge of the block at the bottom to lean it back 10 degrees
  2. its not, but its the generic angle all HSS bits come set to. here is a more detailed diagram. generally though 118 degrees is about right, and if its freshly sharpened, will get decent result.
  3. lovely, I think I spotted someone with a Zenit E camera (the budget SLR of the day- Well I had one and so did my dad)
  4. well the drills I got at the boot fair have been sharpened, some in the sharpening jig, others on the bench grinder, A jig was made to get the 118 degree angle for the cutting face of the drill.
  5. well 4 more stanchions made today, the third (last one ) I managed to shear the thread off trying to get the thread closer to the shoulder than i should have, so i had to make 1 more. more ancient tools have been dug out and got working, my bench grinder was found in a terrible state in the shed, but fired up first go. At the boot fair this morning I found some drill bits, a whole bundle for £10, there were 26 bigger than 10mm, probably over 100 drills in total, maybe 20 that need sharpening.
  6. only 1 stanchion done today, its been a busy day with an apres Christmas tidy up in the kitchen, amazon boxes have been relegated to the bin, and the treadmill is once again accessible (my work clothes shrank over Christmas) so gentle exercise is once again possible. This means i have 15 stanchions made and just 3 left to make.
  7. generally companies trawl the internet for adverse comments, if you work for them and have posted adverse comments it can result in disciplinary action or dismissal - even if its just facebook. At work we now have an internal social media called yammer, you can see the facebook users in the tone of the posts even there, you can also do groups there so I have set one up to answer CAD related questions.
  8. missed it due to taxi service for daughter to out of hours dentists - 3 hours sitting
  9. Will that include how much fuel you can legally make from recycled veggie oil.
  10. I see from the water pipe leading on board that it was hooked up to shore water, the more I look at it the more I want to give it a go. (I think it would take even more work and money to fix up than Robins Independence though.)
  11. dont they just, I am getting vocal complaints when I leave the house to go to work, having been available for lap sitting on duty while I was on holiday.
  12. OOh I would just love something like that (apart from the fact she is on her side and not floating, and her engines have been immersed in the salty stuff and had not been run in 25 years). One day I would love to live on board something like that - though I think it might just be a pipe dream I am still trying to figure how a leaky tap sunk her though, unless she was plumbed into shore water, I would think righting her could be achieved by pumping out the water and attaching an airbag along the downward side though.
  13. i am on facebook, I watch and post on a few select groups, other than that its family and friends only. the one that gets me is why people cannot seem to do anything any more without their phone glued to their hand and referring to it every 5 seconds. when I am at home, my phone gets chucked on charge in the corner and forgotten, at work it sits in one corner of my desk, while others if they move from their desk - the phone goes with them. I can even go shopping and leave the phone at home. For the amount I use it, one of the old fashioned nokias would do the job happily, I have internet on my phone, but its limited and I dont really use it. for me the screen is way too small, so if I am doing things I either use a tablet or my laptop or pc.
  14. I cant wait to hear the next update on matters technical, its the sort of detail that I find really interesting.
  15. gosh nearly a whole week at work, and no updates I hear you cry - well I have been doing a few bits, I now have 13 of the 18 handrail stanchions done, when I am working I can usually only get 1 done per evening, but it is good fun. every night a pair of side deck supports have been added, so really its just more of the same as I have posted earlier this week.
  16. http://www.craftsmanmarine.com/propulsion/engines/cm442/ from this it would seem you are correct that it is a marinised mitsubishi engine.
  17. and if you really do ask a stupid question, you can be sure to receive a stupid answer - well to be honest you might get a stupid answer to any question from some of us here.
  18. left hand down a bit - right hand up a bit - Crruunnch.

Well having taken an hour extra getting to work queuing for the tunnel, as they shut the right hand tunnel - 'in case they had to shut the bridge' we finally got moving when they re-opened the right hand tunnel at 8am, after the queues on the M25 reached swanley, and the A2 was backed up solid almost to Rochester, once I got through the traffic was flowing nicely across the bridge southbound, with no queue whatsoever, so they shut one tunnel in the rush hour - for what? all they did was create huge delays northbound, while the flow southbound - even if they had shut the bridge would not have caused more than a 30 minute delay while they swapped over, and the traffic would have been flowing Northbound instead of causing a huge tailback. Rant over.
  21. I thought Wherries were designed to be sailed by a man and a boy?
