    Flooding

I was about to say I went through the water on Monday but it was actually the roundabout on the A411 when it goes under the M1 - it was coming down the hill from what I think might be a small pumping station? (it might not be the Broads but its still flooding so not a complete drift of thread)

    Flooding

I parked at the Harrow viewpoint on Monday and you could see the planes coming into Heathrow and the ones coming out to the west! The area might not get flooded but the paths are seriously muddy with running water coming down the hillsides

    Flooding

I was over at Merry Hill a few weeks back - agree the views are quite impressive especially as you come across the X roads at Elstree. Been plodding the footpaths around that area quite a bit recently as we have just recorded the first Hertfordshire (for 25 years they say) Brown Hairstreak butterfly eggs in the area - hence my walk yesterday! All 9 1/2 miles and almost no blackthorn which the eggs are laid on! Section 41 species!

    Flooding

Not just the Broads - this was the River Colne near Watford today. Not the best day to plan a walk alongside it as I encountered several detours....plus a bridge actually closed
  6. I've been back from our NZ adventure 2 months and a lot of things haven't been sorted out! As to flights when we went to Australia we just had a two hour stopover in Singapore (same plane) but arrived early morning Sydney and just started sightseeing - by 9pm we were seriously flagging! Coming back the same in reverse but the plane was late leaving and Sydney airport was expensive! We got home shattered. So when we went to NZ we went via Bangkok with a 2 night stopover in a pretty chaotic city and very hot! By the time we got to Auckland via Sydney (we had another delayed flight and had to get a later flight at Sydney) we felt it would have been better doing it like the first time just a quick stopover....however coming back we stopped in Singapore for 2 nights and that definitely helped on the return journey - I slept more than i expected on the flight and then we hit the Elizabeth Line in the early morning rush hour and hit all the Christmas prep with a bang!
  7. It was Waitangi Day yesterday so my daughter had a day off work! Said it was strange in the middle of the week!
  8. Enjoy! Having now got a daughter living in Auckland it's a journey/country we are getting to know! You won't be disappointed. It's 30d in Auckland today
  9. Yes there is still a hire boat rag & stick regatta in October Liz
  10. My 5 year old grandson was Seren of the week, the 'reward' is that he has to look after Dewi the dragon and take it 'on adventures' which his poor mum has to document!!!
  11. Why not hire a Hunters for say a week when you also have an allocation on Moonlight Shadow - ideally all the family so some sail and others cruise with the dogs staying on the cruiser?

  13. I would hardly call this "his pretty Broads cottage" - its a house! I have a friend who has a 'pretty cottage' close to the Broads but outside the BA area where the original cottage is thatched and the modern parts use tile. The rules and regulations for just this small area of thatch are quite something and would certainly put me off ever owning a thatched house especially if I had wood burners!
  14. Very sad news to wake up to - he fought to the end but this time he couldn't win the battle. Love to all the family at this difficult time.

    Richardsons

If they are looking to get additional funding such as a grant - they need to tick extra boxes and adding education and public participation will help/is essential!
  16. I think @Vaughanwill have the answer. As to the rest of the Ant get an OS map which shows the parish boundaries and that will show the old course of the Ant!!!
  17. Sending love that's all I can say at this difficult time for you all Liz
  18. I heard via my brother that in the 1912 storm, the effect was like a tsunami as the water came down the Bure taking out anything in its way. By the time it got to Wroxham the water had spread out across the marshes. He was told this by his boatyard friend whose father survived as he was upstairs in their cottage. Pretty sure I've got the story correct
  19. I think I missed the bit saying varnished. Also Sleeping Beauty springs to mind - Melody was painted?
  20. I almost think the Golden Galleon would put your memory into the late 1970s??? Could be proved wrong. Okay my questions - how many crew on board Was the helm also dealing with the mainsheet or was there someone else on the stern dealing with that? Did you have winches for the jib Did it have a bowsprit Can you remember the occupation of the helm I'm thinking of Melody or Bryony maybe? Liz (who remembers sailing at Horning, Wroxham, Barton, Thurne and Oulton in the 1970s but not the 80s)

So pleased you are okay. A friend in the spring also fell in at Ludham Bridge. How did you get out? My friend had terrible problems but eventually found the BA ladder to haul herself out!
