  1. I'll be on the water from 12:00 25th June to 17:00 and 26th June 10:00 to 17:00, mostly on Hoveton Little Broad (AKA Black Horse Broad). For Horning Sailing Club's Yeoman Open Event, during which, I'll be driving in ever decreasing circles in a rescue boat. The rest of the club should be on a down river to Thurne Lion Dyke On the Sunday only. They'll gather around the Ferry inn from about 10:00 and then race down to Thurne, the return will race back from Thurne to Horning starting around 14:00..
  2. The flying scotsman Visited Bo'ness my parents home town, It was on the Bo'ness and Kinneil Railway for a overnight stop, service and refuel on May 16th. Here are links to some pictures. Not my pictures, you can see who the belong too.... http://www.gettyimages.co.uk/detail/news-photo/train-crew-work-on-the-flying-scotsman-at-boness-and-news-photo/531725034 https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/LocationPhotoDirectLink-g1462708-d295988-i189604124-Bo_ness_and_Kinneil_Railway-Bo_ness_Falkirk_District_Scotland.html And some video. http://player.stv.tv/video/2plb/live-five/back-on-track-flying-scotsman-arrives-in-boness/
  3. I want to know in the new version which American will be the hero?
  4. According to the laptop I upgraded yesterday, it said "All your files are still were they were" and everything I tried still worked. Wow that's a good down load speed if I was at home in Norfolk I only get 6 Megs on a good day, they (BT) only guarantee 2 megs. Even so the entire down load and up grade took about 3 hours. In any case if you have Automatic downloads set for windows your machine may have downloaded it and it may be sitting in the background waiting for installation.
  5. Since I was talking about before life boat crews used to be called, how would lifeboat crew have been there to hijack a available boat?
  6. I have just upgraded a laptop from W7 to W10 a couple of hours ago via WiFi / on to a cable network, it took about 2 hours in all no problems. I'd agree "edge" is rubbish. On my own PC I've kept Explorer on W10. At work, one computer I use brings up compatibility mode Internet Explorer for our time sheets. So I stay in that once booted up. The other works computer has chrome hidden by me for use when I need it.
  7. "They" would be the ambulance crew, these days paramedics. In no way was I suggesting non professionals actually deal with the casualty. A volunteer lifeboat crew who have to respond to a call out, get the boat and tow from Hemsby. Gets there before a professional paramedic crew from either Potter Heigham or The Norfolk and Norwich. It does point out the Problems the Anglian Ambulance Service ( I'm not blaming the crews) have in meeting their response times in Norfolk.
  8. Whilst supporting the lifeboat, in this case they would have done what they did before, hijacked the nearest available boat to get a lift to the casualty. Then driven the boat back themselves, it's not hard, the tourists do it.... probably quicker than waiting for the lifeboat to be trailed round from Hemsby. I personally have helped the police with their enquires, when they turned up a Horning sailing club and needed a lift down the river..
  9. The Swallows and Amazon's series have a lot to answer for, I've never seen the films but prior to 1971 I had read all the books while living landlocked in Wiltshire. From them I always wanted to sail, visit the broads and i learnt to sail here in 1980ish and have sailed ever since, living here permanently since 1999. I would prefer the films to be unchanged from the books. The Soviet association is well known, reading the mass observation reports ( of the British population) communist sympathy was much more common then, throughout population. The majority of people hadn't yet realised it's a good idea that doesn't work. Ransome even with his connections to the Soviet heirarchy and USSR, notably left and returned to the UK, he was not known for any political campaigning on the communist behalf or getting himself into roles that could get information for the communists, which he could have done as a journalist.
  10. There is already a thread on this in the Norfolk Broads News section. In that it is pointed out the statement is FOR the 2017 season, which could mean it's a temporary move or Permanent, either way I would expect it's to allow for some building development. From a business point of view, concentrating everything on one site must improve economics, especially if you can put something else to make money there. Though I hope it's not for more identikit housing.
  11. I know nothing of Volvo's, but kilts... Try shooting socks often cheaper than kilt socks... https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=shooting+socks&client=tablet-android-pega&prmd=sinv&source=univ&tbm=shop&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiO0Pap_KbNAhXlAsAKHTWGC8gQ1TUIMA&biw=960&bih=600#spd=5149366734114874519 Time to pick my kilt I'm off to Scotland in 100 minutes, time to catch the cat.....
  12. Scotland changing their Clydesdale/ RBS /BoS notes for Euros?
  13. I thought it was something to do with fending of a buoy on the river.
  14. At The waterworks would have been Guardship 10, who have the unfortunate privilege of having to be first set up and last to pack away. OK next year for 3RR I'll try to put out an alert for Stinkies. (and non competing sailies). As I will do in July for Hornings regatta the first week August.
  15. MM did you not notice all the notes about the 3RR ? I'd call it self inflicted consternation!! A little heads up you can get more consternation 09:30 to 17:30 1st to the 5th August 2016!

    Sad News

Whilst having sympathy to the victims and their families, I note in the EDP report SEVEN fire engines were called to the scene that does seem a bit excessive...
  17. I suspect the Newt finding dog was filmed some time ago and used before the buldozers arrived. Or arranged filming specially for the cameras after.
  18. The Gravelling at Hoveton was done remarkably quickly, I went through at 06:15 this morning and they were done from the Mini roundabouts to the Doctors surgery!!! SO all there will be now is a few days driveing at 10MPH. As an aside to this I notice there have been more Cuts to the verge cutting. They reduced the number of cuts some years ago, but this year they are only cutting on the inside of bends and at road junctions. The grass / vegetation is so high on some single track roads, it's like driving down a tunnel, what it will it be like after a few years of this?
  19. Swing keels would be better, as the Yeoman who followed my shallow draft Lysander over the Ferry ramp at Stokesby many years ago and came to a very sudden halt found out, a vertical centreboard would do the same.
  20. The Computers at Horning are Not being switched off,. The club funds the computer and internet link down a cable running in the dyke, the Three Rivers Race is funded by the Competitors entrance fees. To support a system that would be capable of running a huge increase in access for two days a year would mean increasing the entrance fees for the race. The club is there for the competitors and the running of sailing / racing / teaching sailing not for any other purpose .
  21. Whilst the building is better than I expected, it is sad to see another piece of modern Architecture, removing some of the history of Wroxham. The Removal of all the boat sheds to be replaced by the Identikit houses the other side of the road and now the old cafe, soon you won't realise you are in Wroxham / Hoveton it will look the same as anywhere else but with a river running through it.
  22. it's amazing how such a rare thing as the great crested newt manages to turn up at every major developement......
  23. Appologies if anyone tried to use the Horning sailing club web site during the 3 Rivers Race to see the sailing. There was so much demand, I believe there were computer problems. Unfortunately as we are a self help club, the computer expert was otherwise engaged.... He came 28th in his Reedling RK4 with a corrected time of 11 hours 21 minutes 11 seconds..
