  1. I've recently joined Faceache, but except for two groups NBN and a railway group (only slightly bigger than NBN). I'll be limiting my use to imediate family and a few friends. I won't be accepting others that I don't know, nor will I accept some I do know.
  2. It's high in the north as well, Horning sailing club decking is underwater again, and it's lapping over the edge on the Swan green
  3. The first question is purpose... What are you going to use it for? rowing, sailing, sailing racing, day motorboating, week at a time motorboating, week at a time sailing. You need to decide on the above before A or B.
  4. Yes all the semaphores will go, I'm not sure how far they are going, but you could lose all signals if they move to electronic "tokens" and "radio control" (spoken to the driver not remotely controlled) as they have done in the highlands.
  5. Not for much longer, this region is being modified to all electronic as we speak...

    My Day

Today being sailing day I went to the landrover to find, the tyre flat. I've pumped it up but will swap it for the spare tomorrow. I find tyres are getting heavier every day.as is everything else.So off to the sailing club,, in howling winds and bucketing rain.Weather south Westerly, 25 gusting 32,We put the buoys out in their normal places in the rain. Said hello to Broad Ambition as we passed. The race was delayed by 20 minutes as several people were missing, my helmsman had phoned the club he was stopped on the A47 at an accident. http://www.edp24.co....idges-1-5338193Race 1 course for us 4p, 1p 2p, they sent the dinghies off first to given us more time., Due to the high winds they were kept within sight of the club so they did 3p 1p 2p.We made a reasonable start in second place, but about 50ft behind the first boat who timed their start perfectly. We set off tacking up river dodging the dinghies heading the other way. We slowly caught up and were not far behind when we rounded buoy 4 as the other boat had put up their spinnaker so did we, although it was at the top end of the wind speed for that.Once we rounded the Bend, we tried to block their wind by sailing behind them, so they moved out into the middle of the river. We therefore went up the right hand bank, so at the 90 right outside the club we had the inside and overtook them. Just clearing ahead before the required three boat lengths from the buoy. The the rest of the race we slowly increased our lead.. so we were first.During the tea break someone had brought in the local paper....http://www.edp24.co....-club-1-5334363That's us with the big bird up,. We had made the papers!!!Race 2 slightly less wind than before, and with slightly more south in it.A better start this time we were just behind the leaders, and as we tacked up river we found one way had the advantage. So we kept overtaking each other up to the bend, then we got the lead. And held it to buoy 4. As usual round the buoy, Genoa's in spinnakers up and off we went. Once round the bend, they followed us, but we did not make the mistake of moving out into the middle. So when we got to club corner we still held the lead as they went the long way round. Rounding buoy 1 then it all started to go wrong, we came out into a lull they behind us got good wind and accelerated up to pass us.We had caught up with the dinghy fleet and as we rounded buoy 2 we had a fireball on the inside of us. So for several hundred yards we had a tacking match with them till we broke free. But by this time the lead yeoman had got away. So we followed them round for the next lap and a half. So we finished second..After a couple of cheese rolls it was time to go home, as every one else including the dinghies, packed up
  9. I'm glad you found that out, I had a book which mentioned the capture of u 110 long before the film came out.. I have a particular interest in the enigma machine and Bletchley park as I lived there for a year and had lessons in some of the decoding rooms . Now it's a museum It would be interesting to go back and see what the particular rooms were used for.
  10. I'm also wondering why my tablet has been repeating itself... If there's a mod around, please delete the echos..
  11. Panic, I'm half a mile from the north sea and ten miles from my boat...
  12. I'm having a similar discussion on a kilt forum, due to enthusiasts for Outlander, which is a big hit there, but not here. Explaining to Americans that film and TV have little to do with real history, is sometimes difficult. This is the problem with inaccurate films, now an odd fender won't make much difference. But that travesty called Braveheart , or even worse the film U571. Both have people believing that that was true.

    My Day

Definitely a three rivers race with the banner tied to the bridge.
  14. Well that woke some of you up. The 3RR will be on The 2nd and 3rd of June 2018. Entry forms may be down loaded at the 3RRs own new website. http://3rr.uk
  15. It's not just the floating moorings that are incorrect, the east mole where two thirds of the men were rescued from, was made of stone and wood, those modern white painted metal railings are particularly jarring. Here is a real picture. Of the east mole at the time.
  16. My grandfather, returned from Dunkirk on the 29th of May 1940 along with the remains of the Royal Tank Regiment, from what I can find it would have been on the isle of man ferry Mona's Isle. Sadly he died the year before I was born, but I know from my Dad, he spoke little about any part of the war.

    My Day

Walked the dog round the garden, found two blown down trees, spent most of the day sawing one of them up...
  18. It depends on how often you take it out of the water, with something as small as 15 ft, if you just use a trailer and not a crane, I'd take it out every six months, give it a hose down and brush off and put it back in. The outboard should be ok if you tilt/ lift it output the water when not in use.

  20. All I can say is, ???? What are you on about????
  21. Produced From March 43, from what I've just looked up , they were too late for the WW2 desert war which we had won in May 43. Which is why I hadn't heard of them...
  22. Those of us a bit younger do know about Italian tanks, especially if their grandfather was RSM of the 7th Royal Tank Regiment, In the deserts of north Africa. Mind you if I was in one of their tanks I'd want 4 reverse gears , their armour was as good as tissue paper... Unlike the Matilda 2, which was impervious to almost anything until Rommel turned up with 88s... They improvised big guns mounted on the back of 3 ton lorries in the desert, the only way to get them to bear on target without killing the driver, was to go into battle backwards
  23. Not particularly to do with speed, but if you want to go round comfortably you'd have to go round the roundabouts at about 10 mph.
  24. I did my own gas piping, it's not difficult, before the boat going all electric. Living here in Norfolk, home cookers are available already set up for bottled gas, as natural gas is not available outside of the major towns and Norwich.
  25. The highway code is here, https://www.gov.uk/browse/driving/highway-code-road-safety Which I've checked several times recently,. Though there are those who need to read it, yesterday I had a car indicate right move across the front of me to the right hand lane of the round about, and then turn left off of the roundabout.. all in a 90degree left, entrance to exit One of the problems with these roundabouts is their angles launch the car towards the middle / inner lane of roundabout and it is physically an uncomfortable effort to keep in the outside lane to turn left. Also many modern roundabouts have in effect a spiral of lines so you join and then are fed by the lines to the appropriate exit. These have gone back to an old-fashioned three concentric circles.
