  3. The victim surcharge is paid by anyone found guilty of an offence. https://www.sentencingcouncil.org.uk/about-sentencing/types-of-sentence/other-orders-made-on-sentencing/what-is-the-victim-surcharge/ It doesn't go to the victim!! it's just another fine which is used to support the courts..

    My Day

The buoys were put out in their normal places, there was scattered clouds and a strong south westerly of 15 mph Gusting 30 mph. With the gusts often angle to the general direction to the wind.Race one course 4P, 1P, 2P.We started at the starboard end of the line by the club house, just as the buzzer went. One boat managed to get out from under us and we followed that up tacking up river the distance varying between 20 and 50 ft. All the way up to buoy 4, on rounding buoy 4 the wind was too gusty for the spinnaker. So we tried to hold out the Genoa in a goose winged position. However the gusts from a different angle often collapsed that.We kept close all the way own to buoy 1, and back to buoy 2. Then we started all over again and we were still holding station until my hat got knocked off. I recovered my hat and was just stuffing it back on my head when we got hit by a huge gust tilted over and took a large quantity of water on board. After that we slowly got left behind for the rest of that lap and the next. So we finished second still a long way ahead of the third placed boat.Race two. Wind stronger...Not such a good start we arrived on the line too early, dumping wind like mad to stop going over. When we heard the buzzer and pulled the sails in we were at the right place but moving slowly. So three boats got out in front of us, and they continued to tack and tack about up the river. We were slowly gaining, when it happened, I stood on a rope and slipped, the back of my coat caught on a cleat and as the boat heeled. I was suspended by my jacket sliding under my armpits so I couldn't move my arms, . The boat taking on a huge amount of water. It then righted, and my feet hit the bottom of the boat, badly hurting my long time damaged big toe.Now freed we were able to get sorted, and continued on, water coming over the floor boards every time we tacked. We then continued to lose distance behind the leading three, and barely finished ahead of the 5th place boat.We went back to our mooring to get properly sorted, the other boat prepared to race again assumed we were packing up and packed up themselves. Not a good days sailing, my arms and knees are sore, my back is painful and my big toe is *****y painful.
  5. If you look at the Nancy Oldfield trust boats some have large sections cut out, here's one of their images. There were also at one time caravan boats where you could load your own caravan on board. They had the entire stern cut away down by about 2 feet. Properly done I don't think there would be a problem.
  6. I got the diesel bug some years ago due to accumulated condensation in the tank. I now dose with soltron. But to clean the tank then I built my own fuel cleaner. A large bore copper pipe that reaches to the bottom of the tank, Rubber hose to demi-john with exit pipe higher to allow water to accumulate in the bottom. To fuel pump. To filter with its own glass bowl and drain. The rubber hose back into the tank. The above is all mounted on a wooden stand. The first time I took a lot of water from the tank, that season every time I went to the boat for maintenance, I ran the cleaner. Since then I run the cleaner each time I've de-winterized the boat.
  7. I had a whisky last night, and will have some more at tomorrow nights Snowflake Sailing club Burns Night Dinner, Fully Kilted of Course. I will remember Iain (and Robert Burns).
  8. The BA do appear to have bank clearance volunteers as I've seen non uniformed personel clearing banks up river of Horning. I think Horning sailing club themselves clear the bank between the club house and the bend up river from the club. They used to do further up to near the mill but that agreement with the landowners / BA seems to have ended. The club members who volunteer for working parties get a free lunch / tea /coffee on the day.
  9. I once had a teenager on a bicycle crossing the zebra on the Coltishall road in Hoveton shout at me when I beeped at him "don't you know this is a pedestrian crossing"? I was so surprised I forgot to shout out "well get of the ******* bike then"...
  10. Not in the highway code, as a cyclist is required to dismount and push a bike across a Zebra crossings . Rule 183 applies to bicycle lanes ALONG the carriageway. Rule 79 Do not ride across equestrian crossings, as they are for horse riders only. Do not ride across a pelican, puffin or zebra crossing. Dismount and wheel your cycle across.
  11. The above is in London but they have been building these in Norwich, which means Norwich council is encouraging an dangerous act.. The one on Fifers lane is a classic of bad design where the cyclist appear from behind a high hedge. Cycling England’s advice is that: “A number of mainland European countries allow the use of zebra style pedestrian crossings by cyclists. At present it is not unlawful for cyclists to cycle across zebra crossings within the UK. However, since there is no legal requirement for motorists to give way when they do, encouraging this practice may increase hazards for cyclists. Where cycle tracks naturally bring cyclists to such facilities, wider than normal crossings should be provided and ‘Cyclists dismount’ signs used. Cycle track approaches should also have a bend on the immediate approaches to the zebra crossing to slow cyclists’ speeds.”
  12. Further to the above, the Norwich Railway Society Show which used to be held in Norwich, Ipswich road, in January, has moved to Poringland on 10th March. Details to follow when I get them. Broadland Model Railway Club open day in Stalham town Hall will be held in August, details also to follow. There may also be a show again in Neatishead Victory hall, but I have no details at present.

  17. We too would have liked a Hampton, but found these effectively had a premium on their price. We only got an idea of price ranges by going round the boat yards , looking at prices and peering in windows. Then having decided what to look at seeing many boats. We then got it down to two, and the favourite was the one we didn't buy. It was a single floored boat except for a raised control position with sliding roof. However having got it down to two, which were the same price, before engaging a surveyer I did my own survey.. On the favourite I found a large area of Deck that Squelched (glass hull, ply decks) and on lifting floor boards / removing loose covers in the bottoms / backs of lockers found evidence of a lot of rot to wooden bulkhead framing. So sadly we had to walk away from that one. We eventually bought an Elysian 27 CCP, it still need much work ( and still does) but not structural. Price of a boat should be on it's condition, but there are an awful lot of over optimistic sellers out there... I think you are going to have to come here for several days and have a good look round the boatyards and the boats.

Well that was an interesting Drive in..... I opened the back door to be thrust backwards as the wind took over, it was a struggle to pull it closed behind me,, Walked to the gate, and opened it, times like this it was a good choice of having an open mesh gate, I'd have never got it open if it was solid. Got into the car clinging onto the door to stop it getting slammed open, put the lights on to see the black bin being sucked out of it's cupboard, shortly followed by the green bin. Got back out of the car while clinging onto the door, went and collected bins from driveway and brought them inside the gates, and laid the bins down on the grass. Got into the car clinging onto the door to stop it getting slammed open, drove forward of the gates, Got back out of the car while clinging onto the door..closed gates, Got into the car clinging onto the door to stop it getting slammed open, had difficulty pulling door closed against the wind.. Drove off... Began the many twiggy bits and occasional branch slalom. Reached the next village, Began the many green bins, many twiggy bits and occasional branch slalom. Left village and eventually reached the Cremated Swan, slalom there round all the cones all over the place, luckily the scafolding is holding up... Reached Stalham, green bin and trampoline (12ft diameter) slalom. Reached A149, good for the first bit then it turned accross the wind every time I passed a farm gate the car got thrown bodily across the road... Many more twiggy bits... Reached Hoveton surprisingly little problem , until... Joined and Enormous queue of traffic behind a high sided vehicle, when we left Wroxham, it didnt go over 30 on a straight 60mph road but with this wind I don't blame him. I do blame the red BMW idiot driving so close behind me that I couldn't see his lights, even when we got past the Artic and were up to the now 50 limit... Got to the NDR many temporary signs down but held in place by sandbags.. Left NDR, drove a few hundred yards and over a road sign lying flat in the road., a few hundred yards later and over the debris of a fir tree that had been cleared to the side of the road. Got to work, had difficulty pushing the door open against the wind... While doing all this there were many reports of trees down across the county, some trains stopped.. Weather Womble reports gusts of 70 to 80 MPH the peak of which wonn't clear till 09:00 Oh I forgot the fence panel, barge board off a house and we must have had a serious amount of rain last night judging by the puddles..
  21. The trouble with putting it into a galavanised bucket is the cloud of ash that then covers the room. Not seen that type box before, but if they get them in stock again I might be interested..
  22. I carried a shovel full of hot ash through the house last night, how else do you empty the bottom of the stove which is run continuously from November till March?
  23. Well I now know why the new traffic lights were installed, on the way home from work, I saw they had started putting up scaffolding around the adjoining properties. This scaffolding is wider and blocking more of the roads. so I don't see the lights being removed until the work is completed. Yes the Swan and adjoining buildings are grade 2 listed, here's the listing text... Later C18 range comprising house and former shop and public house. Utilises fragments of former Trinitarian Priory which was situated immediately east. Flint with brick dressings and thatched roof. 2 storeys. Swan rendered to facade. Swan with 2 C20 ground floor casements flanked by a door each side, that to right with a timber case. One C19 and 2 C20 casements to first floor. Town house to north. C19 shop front (rebuilt C20) of glazed panels right and left of doorway. Domestic door to left flanked by one late C19 horned sash left and right. 3 C19 casements to first floor. Gabled roof with 3 ridge stacks.

  25. I fitted a split unit system in our mobile home, a lot cheaper to run than 3 bar electric fires , no water output of a mobile gas heater and a lot safer.... similar to this one https://www.amazon.co.uk/KFR-53IW-Air-Conditioning-KFR53-System/dp/B00IOQ039U/ref=sr_1_29?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1516109510&sr=1-29&keywords=air+conditioning+split+unit
