    Day Boats

We see the same around here. And there’s definitely more traffic on the roads than you would expect in lockdown. The stay at home message seems to have got lost this time around. And more people seem to be thinking “it won’t matter if I just ...”! Like yourself, Monica, we have stuck to keeping only within our village other than getting my vaccination. We are longing to be able to get further afield even only a few miles, but won’t do it until it’s the right and legal thing to do.

    Day Boats

About time. With it still being stay at home until 29th March I struggled to see how any yard could think it was ok to let anyone out on day boats up to that point. And they didn’t need to do anything other than read the government website to know that. The time between 29th March and 12th April has been less clear. Our caravan site owners are trying to tell us we can’t go down there at all, even just for a few hours to take things back. We live less than one hour away so as long as stay at home becomes minimise travel then one trip during that time should be perfectly legal. Hiring a day boat as a local couple is perhaps less clear.
  3. Great update. Feels like a long cold winter here. Spring equinox today. Lots of lovely spring flowers but still a bit chilly! Hope you’re settling back on board ok.
  4. Hot off the press we have the results of tonight's quiz. Winner was NikO with 15 points, runner up was SteveO with 11 points and in bronze medal position we had Tigerhawk and Jayfire with 8 points each. Great fun ... hope to catch up with everyone again next week. :)
  5. Don't forget to come and join in the fun. :)
  6. Definitely!! More to the point for a lot of people would be can you do without the internet for a week. Never used to have WiFi on a boat or reception all around the Broads!
  7. So nice of you to be looking out for any of our younger members Jay ... and yes, something for everyone.
  8. Looking forward to the quiz on Friday evening. Everyone welcome to join in, starts around 8.30. Enter user name to come in - no password required https://www.nbnplus.co.uk/chat/ Here's the rounds for this week's quiz. There will be a break in the middle and the order could change depending how I feel on the night! It’s in the Stars In the Nursery It’s a Bit Fishy Authored By Branded Waxing Lyrical
  9. Ha ha ha ... I tell you, you have to be fast in that quiz room!! And as it was the first time I had been there I’ve got no idea what kind of questions they tend to have. So this week might be a mystery for all of us! I’ve worked out the rounds but I’m keeping it a secret for a couple of days.
  10. I’ve also seen photos on their Facebook page back in January of a refit for Emerald Emblem. Anyone with that one booked is going to have a lovely boat.
  11. There's no update yet on their Facebook page or website as far as I can see.

    How Much????

It is true that we have hired fly bridge cruisers and found that with high water levels it would be challenging to get through Ludham Bridge. On one occasion we spent a week sticking to the Bure and the Thurne. But the inside helm is brilliant and with colder October weather I was really happy switching between the helms on Zircon. And it was a good boat for colder evenings when some other designs tend to let the draft in.
  13. You should definitely come along Jay. I kept meaning to ... and kept forgetting. Finally remembered thanks to Grendel bumping the topic at just the right time.

    How Much????

Much as some folk don’t like the design of boats such as Zircon Emblem and Fair Marquess, the galley being in the bow gives you a brilliant view from the inside helm and seating.
  15. I was reading this morning that the Riverside Kitchen next to Hotel Wroxham is under new ownership, completely revamped and renamed Riverside Tea Room and Coffee Shop, keeping it simple and pooches welcome. Looking forward to giving them a go when we can.
  16. Ha ha ... it was great fun. Questions are being written for next week ...
  17. We have had meals out from time to time as and when restrictions have allowed. More recently we have had Chinese takeaway delivered from Horning and that’s been a real treat. Great food delivered fresh and hot.

    Day Boats

Mr Nog I think that what you wrote is spot on. We’ve been keeping to only places we can walk to. As have a lot of other people. IMHO HW inviting people from all over Norfolk to come and hire a day boat was not right. It’s interesting what Barnes are doing between 29 March and 12 April which of course covers the Easter break. I could be very tempted but they’re charging a high price for only one day. Monica I have thought the same about one particular YouTube contributor who has been putting up vlogs from all around Norfolk and Suffolk. But another one I occasionally watch claims it’s his work as he lives solely on the income from his channel.
  19. The problem with Herbert Woods is not their setup but that they openly advertised dayboats for anyone living In Norfolk from 8th March while government rules are still stay at home. That’s my complaint and remains so unless they change it. The problem with what they are doing is the travel aspect.
  20. I’m sure that Tesco’s was there first year we went which was 2012.
  21. I contacted the BA over the weekend to point out that Herbert Woods had copied their advice and from today were offering day boat hire to anyone living in Norfolk. That is against the current stay at home and stay local Government rules. I had a nice reply today that they had amended their advice. I have replied to Herbert Woods on their Facebook page since and basically asked them not to advise that anyone in Norfolk can travel to Potter Heigham.
  22. That is so true Griff. We have to count our blessings for sure. We also should have been afloat for a few days from tomorrow. I was looking forward to only having a ten minute drive to get to the yard!
  23. They’re definitely starting on the next age group. I got my letter today too. Booking online means I don’t get the option of the village hall near me but I figured it better to get booked than to wait for the GP to get in touch. It also meant that I had to book my second appointment as well which I found reassuring. Closest option was North Walsham. So my appointment is booked for the week after next. Waiting time almost done! I know our children will feel reassured when we’ve both had the vaccination even though they’ve got to wait.

    Day Boats

Hopefully the government will make the travel advice clearer before we get to 29th March. But I do find it hard to believe that a day boat this Monday is considered ok. Very strange.

    Day Boats

I've seen their post and I've read the BA post. At the risk of incurring the wrath of the mods or the chairman, I really can't make out who's right and who's wrong. The Gov.uk document says that from 8th March People will be allowed to leave home for recreation and exercise outdoors with their household or support bubble, if they are eligible for one, or with one person from outside their household. From 29th March The ‘stay at home’ rule will end on 29 March Even if one lives locally enough to not have to travel to get to Herbert Woods, you are going to travel a certain distance out on a boat that appears to go against stay at home or even stay local or even minimise travel which is what comes in on 29th March. The site where we have our static caravan are even declaring that on 29th March we're not allowed on site because they believe it remains stay local as opposed to minimise travel.
