    Living On A Boat

There is one boat that seems to just move between Hoveton St John and Hoveton Viaduct.
  2. That’s a tricky question to answer without seeing them in real life. But thinking of other places where I have seen similar, especially craft fairs, I would say £15-20 for the clock. Coasters maybe 4 for £10. Hope that seems fair. But you would do well to search Etsy for similar items and see what others are charging. A lot of people use that as their marketplace.
  3. Ian I think that the reference was to Maxwellian not yourself.
  4. They are good videos. I don’t think he’s been back for a while but has been putting some old footage together.
  5. Met a local a few years ago who pronounced it the same way as you would Edinburgh but without Edin on the front of course. I suppose that’s described as Brugh.
  6. I forgot to say … you mentioned the road near Sutton Staithe. Yes it can be busy. That’s the A149. An interesting road in terms of the Broads. It comes from Great Yarmouth, passes Potter Heigham, Sutton, Richardson’s and Stalham, goes over Wayford Bridge, then turns off towards the coast. But if you carry straight on it becomes a different number which brings you into Hoveton and on down past Roy’s, over the bridge and into Wroxham.
  7. What a fantastic holiday tale. So much detail and beautiful photos. I must go back over it to get a note of some of the detail about places and walks and moorings we’ve not been to. Yes we did have heavy rain and a thunderstorm one evening. Love Sewing Bee. And BBC Sounds is often playing in the background on my laptop when I’m working. Some great programmes and podcasts available.
  8. It was great fun. Anyone who hasn't come along yet, give it a go. The regulars will make you very welcome. Well done to Bern.
  9. I had a feeling you would do that. It was probably a good idea anyway with the weather we woke up to this morning. It’s warmed up a bit now and about stopped raining but it’s been an indoors day.
  10. Such a shame that after all the trials of this last year your trip didn’t work out better. Spring just seems to have turned back to something more like winter. We’ve still got our heating on all day and that’s ridiculous for May. Which doesn’t help if you’re not feeling well. It’s felt like a very long few months. Let’s all hope for brighter and warmer days ahead.
  11. Love seeing your photos and hearing about your day Jay.
  12. That's spot on. So many people have said that to me. I always tell them that if they have even the slightest inclination then they should give it a go. All kinds of boats for all kinds of budgets ... just do it!
  13. Including my caravan! 😂😂😂

    Road Works 2021

Looks like they are setting up roadworks and 3 way temporary lights at the junction of Horning Road and Church Road including temporary pedestrian lights by the school.
  15. I had wondered where you had chosen for today's destination Helen. What a long cruise that was. I haven't done the crossing north to south or vice versa yet. We fully intend to do it one day, probably hire on the north and then get to the south. But I would want 5 or 6 days on the other side rather than only 1 or 2 days as a lot of people seem to do. Certainly been a better day. I got out for a walk before I started work and it was beautiful.
  16. Never even occurred to me. But someone I know tracked down my house from a few details when I moved. It made me very aware of just how easy that can be!
  17. I love mooring on the island. Ok, you pay a fee and there's no facilities but it's so much nicer than playing sardines on the staithe at busy times of year. And it's often a good backup plan when other places are full.
  18. That reminds me of the issue we had on Swan Reflection. The inverter was fine until we were on shore power and then it tripped out. The engineer's answer was that the yard had given us the wrong cable for that boat.
  19. That's great news Ian. Hope everything proceeds smoothly for you now.
  20. Not sure I understand this. Salhouse, Cockshoot Broad, Ranworth and Ludham Bridge are all in easy reach. Fleet Dyke and St Benet’s too. Lots of choice.
  21. Good to know that you’ve found somewhere else to sit this out.
  22. Not quite. If you hire from Wroxham then unless you can guarantee getting through the bridge then you will probably always do that stretch of the Bure leading back in from Wroxham Broad, Salhouse or beyond. You leave that way and come back that way. Or if you’re at Richardson’s then the last bit into Stalham is the same and you’re likely to be somewhere on the Ant. Only one way in and out of their yard. But if you’re leaving from Horning or returning there then you could be either side along the Bure or up the Ant. And actually their riverfront is also a great place to spend your last night. Just my view.
  23. A number of places have probably closed today and are watching the weather to make a decision for tomorrow. Such a shame that just when we have our first public holiday after we really started to come out of lockdown, the weather hasn't been kind to all those businesses that could have done with the income. Surely it has to warm up soon ....
  24. I was just sitting here thinking the same about the wind getting up now. Glad we came home earlier rather than sit listening to the wind in the caravan!
  25. Starting from Horning is one of the reasons that I particularly like hiring from Ferry Marina. A good choice of places to moor for your first and last nights meaning you don’t always have the same bit of river for your first and last cruise.
