  1. Tonytugboats moved ours the other way St Ives to Brundal and would recommend him. He is covered by insurance and you can just leave it to him to do. His number is 07810646733, or email tony@tonytugboats.com It is not something I would take on lightly. Paul
  2. Buy one anyway it is going to cost no matter what you buy. 2nd engines are cheapish, Enjoying boating is all that matters boating! Paul ps avoid chandlery's they always have things you didn't know you needed/want
  3. Thought of that but it means leaving the ladder in place while off the boat or visiting the Bear & Bells with a ladder! Just need to watch her getting on/off. Biggest problem stern on is trying to put fenders out! They keep moving away! and the platform bangs against the heading. Any suggestions welcome. I have tried cable ties, fenders etc what I want is a semicircular fender. Inventions please. Paul
  4. We have an outdrive with a bathing platform BUT when the tide is out at Beccles or Oulton Broad it is one h--l of a climb up/down. I usually unzip the back and jump over not elegant or safe but she steps onto the outdrive (if I'm not watching). Masters at Beccles normally let side if space when you are mooring. Paul
  5. Wouldn't advise the southern rivers to anyone most places charge to moor, pubs no good, very tidal, angry people, terrible weather. : Ps We moor at Brundall and do not like to brag about the peace compared to the rowdy side. Paul

    1 year on

Well it is now one year on since we handed the cheque over for Capt Matt, so I thought I would jot some words down about ownership. 1 Yes it is expensive. 2 It costs even more than that. 3 Every visit we dread something going wrong and something usually does! 4 It has taken over our live’s, at home we only think about getting back onboard, onboard we think when is the next time? 5 The Capt is only a small boat 22 years old and including purchase, a new hood, moorings and running costs I reckon we have spent £14,000 BUT in the previous 2 years we have had 2 5 star cruisers plus a yearly visit to the broads at £900 approx so if we get another 5 weeks on her next year I will call it quits. 6 Luckily I earn enough to do this and it is our only hobby and most work is done by us, Jill made the curtains and bed covers and quilt for a V berth, I fitted the new pumpout toilet, not easy. 7 Would we go back to hiring? Possibly. If we could phone anytime to get the boat we want when we want it and do not have to payout for it. 8 Ownership is not for everyone but we love it. 9 I can see some advantages of hiring but now we are sold on ownership. 10 We looked at syndicate ownership but while my wife is retired I still W*RK and am limited as to when I can take holidays. 11 The ducks are now safe on our last night Jill no longer hurls bread with intent to cause GBH . I have also witnessed others doing this. 12 I can now sometimes stern moor, but nobody sees the good one’s only those that go wrong! 13 If you want to buy do not be afraid to look elsewhere and get the boat transported. 14 IT'S FUN, wish we had done it years ago. Paul
  7. Oh dear I hope that wasn't us he was talking about! Brilliant. But who cannot remember the joys of your first stern moor ( or any ) or the first/last time you tried moornig with the tide. PS thats only 2 days what about the rest of the week? As and add on what is the daftest thing you have done and will admit to? jumping off into a bed of nettles is mine. Paul

  10. All I can say with a single cylinder Yanmar the only river we can speed on is the Chet, but I thought the idea was to get nowhere slowly and just enjoy the surroundings and the next pub. Getting there slowly is more fun than getting there! Paul Ps just got rid of my 180mph car for a slow 150mph one.
  11. no antaras not in a mint they make coins.
  12. retiree in waiting, otherwise literally making money! paul
  13. Personally the child catcher in chitty chitty bang bang is my hero. We avoid Norwich/GY and sadly Loddon over night like the plague and have notified the councils why, maybe all of us should avoid them completely until something is done. Boaters bring a lot of cash into these places so we should expect the same as all visitors. rant over. Do we take the boat to another waterway or speak out. SPEAK OUT. Paul
  14. Hi no it wasnt you it was a craft not much biggar than us but still tried to hog both banks at the same time! Having taken a 42 footer down the Chet I know how interesting it can get meeting another one, enjoing the tale. Paul
  15. I am sure I met that on the Chet a couple of weeks ago!! well the tub coming towards us wanted all the river. paul

Thing is, I have a big mod to do over Easter and wonder which is your favourite chandlery on the Broads, am based in Brundall but willing to travel (by car). Normally use Wroxham Marine. I am scraping a Thetford 400 porta loo (does anyone want one) and fitting a Jabsco electric one with new waste and water tanks. Paul Ps any tips more than welcome.
