  1. There is a Spring Meet sign up page , I’ve just given it a “bump” so should appear if you search recent posts
  2. Think Bramble may be getting an extra Xmas pressie
  3. I adore the lines of the Hearts cruisers , especially those with the step down sides , stunning boats
  4. Thank you for posting this Kate , as you said , if your tale prompts just one more person to wear their life saver then it is a very valuable tale. We are glad you are no worse off for your mishap and hope to see you afloat soon .
  5. It’s certainly not failing just needs to trim expenses
  6. The last couple of seasons staffing etc has been lacking at The Maltsters , as well as a falling out with the village regulars perhaps a fresh approach and face at the helm is what was/is needed to bring the Maltsters back to being a must visit
  7. Last time it closed was before Roy took it over (ex landladies former husband) and it was shut for 18months then , it’s one of the few properties not owned by the Cators .
  8. Sadly when insurance companies have huge pay outs it is all of us that pays out through larger bills next year as we have seen recently with the huge rise in car insurance after the Luton airport car park fire and increased costs with electric vehicles
  9. When I was late teens early twenties most evenings would find me in my local socialising , this same age group today prefer to game online either alone or with friends and maybe venture out at the weekend. Most pubs now are more akin to being restaurants selling beer as opposed to pubs serving food , the traditional village pub once so loved are few and far between. When was the last time you went in a Broadland pub where the locals were having a game of darts or cribbage , where an 18yr old was chatting to a 60yr old over a pint , the closest we have found is Catfield and the much missed New Inn at Rockland .
  10. Katie has already managed to fill all , and I mean all, stowage
  11. I used to keep a fender board in the lazarette on Cerise Lady if heading south during spring tides , sadly no stowage on Pipedreams
  12. The Ship South Walsham is currently subject to a fundraising by locals to reopen as a community owned pub fingers crossed it s successful .
  13. The mooring fees at Ranworth are suspended during the closed season , ie from the end of October , the signs are due to be changed. The Maltsters last winter had their opening hours pinned to the door but on at least two occasions I was there they were closed within their stated opening hours .
  14. My late father had a holiday on the Geest Banana boat , I drove him down to Tilsbury docks in his Jaguar (the only time he let me drive it) , if memory serves me right he was away for about ten weeks . It was , he often stated, the best holiday he had ever had . He enjoyed it so much he decided to book a similar (or so he thought) experience onboard a Russian container ship destined for Australia intending to see some of the Olympics whilst it was berthed ; this holiday was a disaster , the Captain/Crew had no interaction with the 8 passengers except to ask for European currency to pay harbour fees as they wouldn’t accept the Russian currency (they claimed) , the bar only opened for one hour a day and was very limited and the food was awful . it was so bad my father disembarked when they arrived in Australia and flew home having to fly first class due to the Olympics being held in Sydney and no other flights available . the one positive was that his travel agent was able to recover almost the total cost including the flight after seeing my fathers diary entries and photographs
  15. The trouble with many community run pubs , is that they often have very large wage bills , tbh far higher than it is necessary . the Broads area has seen a drought of chefs this last few years meaning those few in the area are able to command higher than usual wages , and obviously the manager would expect to earn more than the chef , I would expect their two wages to be easily in the region of £80k p.a which is unsustainable for a village pub on top of other wages and bills . in our area the community pub is managed and operated by a group of the “owners” and the only full time paid staff member is their chef , this pub is making a healthy profit and is quieter than the White Horse
  16. Wishing Shaun a speedy return to full health and our thoughts are with yourself , Mrs G and family. Simon and Katie
