  1. I think Jones has these in stock ,
  2. No no , I enjoyed reading it , I just thought I would add “my own” history about the Hood , and I certainly took it in the right spirit
  3. Amongst the c. 1,415 lost souls when the Hood sank was my mothers uncle , his letters , medals and photos were past on to me by my late grandfather, even as a youngster I regarded being the custodian of this piece history an honour
  4. If we were starting off on our boat ownership journey again and were looking for an entry level first boat Sandswift would tick all the boxes , no frills but everything you need for what could be a very reasonable price if they are open to offers
  5. I sadly lost my mother on 02/10 three weeks ago , still feeling numb even missed my weekend afloat as I didn’t feel like it. Like you I’ve got a house full of memories from 90 years to sift through and clear , without Katie at my side I would be lost
  6. A true great of his sport , ambassador to his nation and gentleman . may you rest amongst loved ones
  7. The trouble , I feel, with these online review sites is that unfortunately the general public seem all to eager to post a negative review when all doesn’t go well for them (in their opinion) yet these same reviewers rarely post a positive when everything is perfect . Also if you look at a large hire yard (Yard A) as an example and upon reading the review site you see they have 10 times as many negative reviews as Yard B then you would believe that they were a terrible experience in comparison ; however Yard A is much larger and has probably 100 times the amount of hirings which in effect means that percentage wise Yard A is the better of the two . In my option sites such as TripAdvisor are to be viewed with caution , the reviews are often posted in haste or in anger when something often beyond a companies control occurs that they are not happy with and frequently the first a company hears of any grievance is when they read the review online , the customer not even having the decency to discuss their complaint with the company involved .
  8. Early booking discount is the model adopted by virtually all types of holiday business now from hotels to flights , the days of last minute bucket seat discounts have long gone and the rise of companies such as EasyJet and Ryan air shows that it is a successful formula .
  9. Yes you are issued with a receipt . The boat in Grendels photo is actually based there and is the BA trip boat which in effect prevents at least 3 day boats using the dyke
  10. That’s the Archimedes principal in effect , presuming Grendel did submerse himself
  11. I notice that the 75% increase only applies to those vessels without a home mooring with a greater beam than 3.24m , whilst other craft will have an increase greater than inflation. An increase greater than inflation sadly seems to be the norm for Broads boaters , surely those in their gilded towers must realise that at some point the incessant squeezing of their toll payers funds will reach a point whereby those able or willing to pay will simply give up on The Broads altogether . simple economics 10,000 x X is greater than 1000 x 3X
  12. I agree , I noticed, this year in particular, that the external appearance of all the larger yards boats seemed less pristine than one would expect. Even some of NBD’s boats were looking tired , something that was unthinkable just a couple of years ago. When we see a Bridgecraft or a Horning Pleasure Craft boat , which is often older than most and it’s immaculate appearance it certainly highlights the differing approach between larger yards and the smaller ones , sadly though the logistics of a large fleet opposed to the smaller yards means hull cleaning etc has to wait to the closed season for some of the large fleets to “smarten up” their boats. That said, I can state that the older “scruffy” looking back that I have been aboard this last couple of years have all been well presented and clean on the inside and the holiday makers on them were thoroughly enjoying their time afloat in their temporary homes .
  13. The private one moored up at the Waveney River Center shows how grand they can look , fantastic boat IMO
  14. “Another place” has alleged that an unknown has circumvented the payment on the posts and has been receiving free electricity , I reiterate that this has not been substantiated at all.
  15. Steve is the operator/owner of the stores (and the granary)
  16. According to Steve , there is a greater change over of boats during the day
  17. The local businesses , ie The Maltsters , Ranworth stores and the Granary have all seen an increase in footfall and income since the introduction of the fees
  18. The £4800 quote includes other works highlighted in the survey that is available , as mentioned in the details
  19. Apologies , is the far corner spot on the right hand (as you look at the staithe from the Broad) dyke , was so called by another forum member a few years ago due to the frequency of me being able to acquire it . Hope that explains it
  20. Traveled early morning to Ranworth and moored up on the taxi rank , was pre warned upon arrival that there was a wedding on , Cators youngest daughter to the great grandson of Sir Winston Churchill and that the disco/band would be finishing at 03:00 and wouldn’t be quiet , the marquee was set up on the land behind the Cator moorings which had been clear to give uninterrupted views across the Broad , wasn’t a problem for us as when I’m asleep nothing disturbs me . In fact the disco and band were most enjoyable . After a Granary breakfast we popped up to see if a space were available on Horning green , sadly not so turned around and headed up the Ant , we are now moored up at How Hill for thé evening
  21. Popped up the Crown , very busy , great meal and ale as always ; then we decided (well I did) to pay the Broadside Caravan Park social club a visit , fair few in there , karaoke going well (if that’s your thing) then back on board for a snooze before setting off in the morning .
  22. Onboard for the weekend , will set “sail” in the morning , The Crown Catfield is calling for this evening
  23. Having seen the old Silverline fleet out and about this season I can assure you that they are far from being “delapidated” as you alluded.
  24. I would propose keeping it as per norm ie. The 3rd weekend of May 18/19th can I poll if this is agreeable and if not I welcome suggestions
