  1. Very much looking forward to following your travels as well , thank you
  2. I was very interested in getting an Elise , sadly I couldn’t get out of it if the roof was up so had to pass
  3. Katie and I are saddened to hear this , our love and condolences to you Pat and to your family .
  4. They could , possibly, but at what detriment to their other business ?
  5. At the current asking price I feel it will be a lifestyle choice as opposed to a business venture , listing states that approximately 30 boat mooring spaces are included with the sale , obviously dependant on size of boat . If I were younger I would have seriously considered it as the opportunity is there to earn 6 to 8% (IMO) on capital investment and with the benefit of a pleasant living space and an asset that is appreciating . With further investment and the possibility of adding holiday lets (subject to planning) , the returns can obviously be greater . The one concern I would have is that as the mill is owned now by the trust then rights of access etc could possibly be problematic if wishing to expand the business and buildings footprint.
  6. Pop into Brian Wards at Brundle and have a chat to them there , they will point you in the right direction , and don’t forget the forum 10% discount for members
  7. I’ve made no secret on here of my dislike in the way we are all being pushed into electric car ownership so rapidly. The technology and infrastructure are still a far way away from being practical for most consumers , it’s (to me) just another means of ticking the all so important green credentials box without considering the implications. To consider the current electric propulsion options on waterways would be ludicrous , impractical and IMHO irresponsible to peoples safely (loss of power on tidal waters is dangerous) , the infrastructure needed would not only be nigh on impossible to install but would also be a blight on the beautiful area of the Broads . Modern diesel engines are far cleaner than the hype would have you believing , the move towards biodiesel helps too , if it isn’t broken don’t fix it !
  8. For 99% of my working life I have worked what is regarded as antisocial hours as either a publican or a cabby , and as I was self employed the working of these hours was necessary to put food on the table. Now in my semi retirement I’m in employment meaning paid holidays and every second weekend off which made me wonder if I should have done things differently and have I any regrets ? , well , no I haven’t it worked for us as a family as we knew nothing different my children have grown up in a solid loving family atmosphere and considering Katie and I have been a couple since we were 15 we must have done something right (for us at least). There is no right or wrong as far as working weekends , holidays etc it’s all about what suits you and your family , Clive’s choices at HPC certainly seems to work for him , his family and for the business.
  9. Congratulations , we look forward to following your tales both afloat and your refurbishment journey . We are a nosey lot on here and love nothing more than before and after photos of restoration projects and following the progress
  10. We have just had to change our horn as the old one suddenly stopped functioning , I was told that it is a relatively common thing for the horn to fail with little or no warning . We sourced a replacement for just under £60 and to change it over is a very simple job .
  11. Whilst I certainly enjoy the bakeries offerings , I also am of the belief that local businesses need protecting , I didn’t realise that the bakery was operating without the correct permissions and would not have used them if I had known . Hopefully the business will operate out of another (legal) site and continue to flourish .
  12. To be honest , I doubt I have used my car horn more than twice in 40 years + of motoring , a vast majority of which were as a black cab driver . I come from the camp that believers that if you potter along as life takes you there is no point in expressing your displeasure in those that wish to live a little bit faster , let them get on with it .
  13. I agree it isn’t difficult , but it takes forward thinking and planning , something many find taxing at the best of times
  14. The trouble , as I see it , with one way cruising breaks is two fold , firstly the appropriate crossing Breydon water times are not always feasible and secondly the boat yard would be splitting their fleet / staff / and logistics between two bases would would inevitably add to costs . If it were financially advantageous I’m in no doubt they would already exist .
  15. Please can I remind members , when a quote or posting is “borrowed” from another platform can we please seek the permissions of the original source/poster before so doing, thank you .
  16. Thank you all for you suggestions , we were able to get a one off ordered to our specifications for ,I think, a reasonable price . if anyone needs the details of where we used please pm .
  17. Huge credit must also be extended to their manager Sarina Wiegman , she has moulded a group of talented individuals into a team and instilled a winning mentality , something that has eluded the mens team for far to long .
  18. Have heard good reviews for the Stag in Salhouse , The Granary at Ranworth is very good , for a special meal The Bure Valley in Horning is pricey but excellent
  19. Not a scythe though Grendel , we know how clumsy you can be
  20. A sure fire way of not getting early bookings for next year , I would not be happy if I had booked for this year early only to find out I could have saved a few hundred pounds by waiting . I understand that bookings this year are suffering due to many factors , the opening up of overseas holidays post covid, the perceived expense of boat hire , the recession and the lovely British weather, being just a few but the slashing of the hire prices in such a manner must surely impact the cash flow of future seasons compacting the perceived problems for years to come.
  21. Thank you , my vote would have been for a particular Broom Captain
