  1. It is a pleasant change to hear The Suffolk Broads mentioned though , too many seem to think it is only the Norfolk Broads that make up The Magical Waterways that are the Norfolk AND Suffolk Broads
  2. Until a nationwide exchange system is in place electric cars will never replace conventional engines . why can we not pull into a petrol station and exchange run down battery packs for fully charged ones , is the technology that difficult? cambridge city want to make all taxis electric , currently the city has eight charging points , five of which are in car parks which for a four hour charge (full charge) means a parking charge of £16 . on our fleet we have a couple of Nissan Leaf electric cars , Nissan claim a range of 186 miles is achievable, in the past year neither has achieved greater than 90 miles before low battery reserve light comes on , I would love to run an electric cab but it is not viable
  3. Seren looks a beautiful girl , we have a couple of collies Alfie a 8 year old black/white dog and Willow a 5 year old blue bitch. sadly neither of them enjoy being in a boat , Alfie is terrified, so we have to leave them with our boys at home when we are afloat , this turns me (according to kate) into a "puppyphile" as I can't resist greeting and stroking all dogs we encounter .
  4. Looking at the excellent work I think Pauline would be the perfect person to ask if they were able to create a "Blue Fender Award" pennant as mentioned on the other thread
  5. Is that the new floating ticket office for entrance to "The National Park" ?? yes I know I'll get me coat
  6. very much a matter of personal taste as to which one but as others had said even though a bit pricier the centre cockpit wins any day over a forward steer with me
  7. Mmmm a fender , being bumped does that now make it a bumper
  8. A blue fender pennant to be flown when the holder of the award is aboard perhaps ??
  9. I'm sure there's a nice quiet end of garden spot on Oulton Broad it could moor
  10. They also claim vitreous enamel is non stick , with two twenty something boys still living at home I can assure you that their bathroom wc is in no way non stick !!!
  11. Enjoy your holiday , may I ask which boat you'll be on ?
  12. Viewed the albums and must say it's not often an amateur photographer has the ability to capture the atmosphere and serenity in their "snaps" so well , truly a talent that will be greatly missed and by all accounts a lady that made the world a better place during her all too brief stay .
  13. As a former publican and restaurateur I find the current "scores on the doors" very misleading and often very subjective. at one of my former premises the kitchen flooring (Lino) was scored and torn , as I was awaiting planning consent for an extension to allow separate prep area and a larger kitchen , to fall within the laws at the time I removed ALL the flooring had the concrete underfloor sealed and painted in a commercial non slip floor "paint", was duly re tested and was served with a prohibation notice preventing me from serving hot food as the surface was not in accordance with what they allowed (a finish which is now used in many commercial kitchens) but only in that inspectors view , I appealed and was told I would be inspected by another official but it would be at least six weeks until it was possible. long story short , we had to recover the floor in "approved flooring" for the four weeks before building work commenced at a cost of £2500 in 1984, so as to be able to continue serving hot food. if and I mean if a kitchen is infested , filthy or dangerous fair enough close it . but when a business , especially one which has risen from the ashes , is making obvious leaps and bounds in the right direction why do the authorities keep hitting them. nowhere does it state the kitchens at the Ferry were dirty, food below standard or than anyone had been ill , a couple of breaches of food hygiene regulations were not up to 100% . i like the food there , what they do they do well, and after seeing it boarded up for so long it's a pleasure to see it back again
  14. Get the above code when I try to view The Corsicans thread , is this due to not being a full member please ?
  15. Welcome from fellow "newbies" Simon and Kate
  16. she will be the envy of many when they're moored up waiting to get under "that bridge "
  17. When ever Kate and I go out for a meal there is always a pot of freshly made mustard in her bag , can't abide sachets of non Colmans . even the Bridge at Acle was serving Heinz so called Hot Mustard on Saturday !!!! must say the ham egg and chips was top drawer though
  18. You may I included his sexuality as it was stressed at the time of the court case against his attackers by him and his legal team , apologise if offence has been caused
  19. Mmmm , 30ft plus initially a bathing platform till I can get it removed ?
  20. Thank you all , so far , for your welcomes and help. tbh can't find where on the forum the mooring suppliers are listed Alan but prob just me being dense. as I mentioned we would prefer to be located on the Northern rivers we have been offered a place in Moores old yard at Wroxham and at what seems a competitive rate of £2040 annually , ideally would prefer a quieter locality though , facilities would be a bonus but not an essentiality
  21. Where I live , just outside Cambridge a couple of years ago the disused army Barracks were leased and used to train Xxxxxx soldiers , over one weekend a group of these soldiers went into Cambridge unaccompanied (a breach of the terms and conditions of their stay) and proceeded to sexually assault a young lady and also assault and gang rape a young straight gentleman. they have since been arrested and convicted and the camp closed with all others sent home, What has happened in this young ladies case is typical of the UK today , they should be tried, convicted and forced to serve a long sentence in prison in their birth nations penal system (which I bet is much harsher than ours is currently) have signed petition Grace
  22. I can't deny that she has all the home comforts but I'm increasingly finding that most of the newer built boats with all the yards are becoming more floating luxury mobile homes and less like a boat , we've been hiring for 30+ years and often used to go for the newest offering , and more often and not from Faircraft at Wroxham . To us the last of the true boats (as opposed to mobile home) we hired from them was the Haines flybridge Fair Aristocat which we spent 3 separate weeks on a fantastic boat. we also hired Fair Diplomat on 6 occasions and we loved her too , again a true boat. we had a look aboard Richardsons new offerings , Broadsman style and IMHO although extremely well equipped and most comfortable there was little or no character to us. our last few hirings have been from Brooms with their Cadet class boats and they are very comfortable , smaller yes but fitted out as a boat should be (to us) as mentioned in another thread we hope to shortly be joining the broke and bankrupt club of boat owners and the first box we needed ticking was "does she have character and feel loved" some may find that strange but it was honestly number one on our check list when viewing
