  1. Kate and I have just returned from a most relaxing week on Cerise Lady , where we travelled south to attend the (un)official gathering at Beccles , met a few fellow forumites (as in the Admirals blog of the event so no need to repeat), we had never visited Beccles , nor The Locks Inn at Geldston or indeed Oulton Broad and found them all to be beautiful, special mention must go to the staff at OBYS who were fantastic as was the meal in The Commodore. not going to write a long blog but have attached a few pics of our week
  2. Glad you're all ok after your mishap , certainly opens our eyes to the dangers of boating when we take our eyes off the boil for even a second.
  3. Is an Ocean 30 (almost a Broom) acceptable ??
  4. We have crossed the great divide and are booked in to Beccles Saturday (opposite you Admiral we are stern in on leccy)
  5. Anti social groups sadly come in all ages and sexes , the only way to effectively "police" bad behaviour is to report it to the authorities AND the hire yards and IF the yards and authorities are seen to act quickly and forcefully then hopefully it will be curtailed. yes all male ,and female groups are often the offenders and if a simple extra contract about behaviour liable to end the hiring with no return of monies is issued then perhaps they may be more likely to behave. the Broads are all about enjoying yourselves but not at the expense of others enjoyment . we all have smart phones (Well almost all) and if the offending boats are videoed then they can have no defence when yard is emailed the video and they lose their holiday and money
  6. When we're on the boat Kate calls me a "puppyphile" as I go up to all and any dog I see as I miss ours when away from home , they hate travelling so we can't bring them , I'm usually found with a gravy bone biscuit in my pocket just in case
  7. I believe this weekend there is a Freemans owners meet at Salhouse , may be a good idea to pop down there perhaps
  8. We were a bit gutted we didn't feature, as we passed in the river at least three times lol, especially with the NBN pennant flying proudly !!
  9. Great video , Kate and I passed you both two or three times during your hols , a friendly wave was exchanged at all times .
  10. We would love to attend cambridgecabby /simon and kate/cerise lady /2/both nights
  11. May I ask the date of the "party" please ? if poss would be helpful to add it to title of thread ?
  12. A 20ft boat and a 44ft both have equal rights of access to shore and use of facilities hence the same fees are correctly charged . if you drive a Smart car your kerb side pay and display parking costs the same as a Range Rover . i too would feel sorry for a couple in a 20 footer, but only because they couldn't get their preferred mooring due to another 20ft boat refusing to close the gap so not only spoiling a couples evening but also depriving local businesses of income
  13. maybe I'm just being cynical , but perhaps the PR through the advertising value far exceeded the cost of a new mast , something that woodworm would not . but as I said being probably just je being cynical we all know how honorable and generous insurance companies are
  14. I for one am happy to pay a mooring fee and believe a figure of £6 for overnight would be good , and perhaps a fee of £3 for short stay if not overnighting payable all day would more than compensate for the £1.50 short fall . This system seems to function well at Salhouse and I'm in no doubt that the management of the Broad looked at how best to maximise their income. if a sign was erected explaining the charges something like Mooring Charges Applicable in order to continue to provide and maintain the dyke moorings the following fees are payable Short Stay £3 (moorings to be vacated by 17:00hrs) Overnight £6 (max 24 hrs)
  15. Leaving Cambs now for the weekend afloat , NBN pennant will be flying , probably Barton turf or Gays Staithe area this pm , wave if you see us
  16. Sadly no matter where you go nowadays there is often a bunch of (usually drunk) idiots causing mayhem and ruining others leisure time As a cabby in a city which attracts scores of young "adults" I see this all too often. Ten years ago it was mainly groups of young men but now The young girls are even worse, a lot of this is down to the 24/7 opening which encourages them to "pre-drink" and not go out till midnight arriving in town already drunk.also the current trend of shots and over the top cocktails doesn't help. i would love to know how the young of today can afford to get so wrecked so often (though I believe the use of certain illicit substances is also to blame). yes have a drink , enjoy yourselves , you're only young once but try and not lose the ability to consider others, your environment and your safety
  17. Sadly Kate's working today so no visit from us , enjoy the sunshine
  18. Mmmm have plenty of those will have to check as to sizing , although sides are a bit high
  19. Do remember you are being taught to pass the test and once passed that's when you learn to drive . often methods used by instructors seem wrong but they ARE what the examiners are watching for , like moving your head slightly so they realise you're using your mirrors , I'm sure you'll "sail through" and soon be stuck in the M11 or A11 traffic like the rest of us wondering why you didn't catch the train
  20. Thank you for your replies , both offerings although obviously purpose made aren't really what we were picturing , on a previous hire boat (cannot remember which boat sadly) there was a steel? disc with raised lip which the weight sat on(in) , looks like I will have to find a fabricator for one
