  1. Great choice of cruiser Roy, I would lean towards the upper end of Bluebells budget range and go for a decent mooring with security and facilities if possible. Otherwise leave the doors unlocked and a bottle of cheap whiskey or slab of beer for an intruder to take! Matter of preference but the sliding canopy version is great for mooring up single handed as you can tie up to a mooring post single handed from the helm seat if you’ve planned the tide, wind etc. right. Fantastic little ships in a class of their own.
  2. Spot on kp’, I feel like that when driving my wife’s car. Low to the ground, limited all round visibility due to the soft top when up, and very sensitive to both right foot and fingers on the wheel. TBH I struggle to switch off when driving it as I’m all too aware of the consequences having lost friends to RTA’s where in most cases speed was the factor in fatality. But whilst boats are a lot slower they’re generally a lot bigger and heavier with no air bags, unless you count fenders. You don’t feel the bump of running something over nor the effect on others unless you’ve observing the bank behind you. Slow down signs perhaps presumptuous & counter productive, maybe “Why hurry? Speed rocks” with a visual of a boat pitching on waves and the kettle falling over...
  3. I’ve got a better idea Paul, cocktail sticks pushed into a squash ball filled with baking powder - bath time naval mines! That’ll slow the packet armada down.
  4. My favourite news channel, some of the stories are unthinkable, people don’t do such things shorely?
  5. Anyone know if Vagabond has her new lease of life wherever she was headed. I miss the floating restaurant.
  6. Feels like you need an independent banking adviser these days to assist with the changes. My very recent experience of switching to online banking was rubbish, when I popped into a branch today to discuss a hitch they said they could do diddly squat, I’d have to go online.... which Ive already tried and failed to resolve. Lot to be said for human services. For my sins I also manage an account for a club which may be equally challenging to move with the times, getting the key people to do whatever won’t be easy. My first thought was to simply draw down all the funds and start afresh with another bank and let the old one die of its own accord but I’m not confident it will be straightforward. Glad I’m not alone in this thought train wussername, it always used to be the case that the customers always write... “sorry Mr Turnoar you’ll have to go online and submit an enquiry”. Difficult to differentiate between the banks now, all much of a muchness, zero customer service consideration.
  7. Did you have to pass The Norwledge Test first? Joking aside, were Welles also a funeral directors with a building contracting arm? If so I bumped into a retired member of the family many years back who had a broads yacht but was also into caravanning. He joked that a former Norfolk boatyard owner had taught him how to yacht whilst in return he’d taught him how to caravan. Pretty sure he was a car mechanic as well as a plumber.
  8. Sour fruit in ice cream is a delight for sure, I like rhubarb ice cream home made with some crumble in the mix, my favourite, but I fancy having a go at gooseberry now you’ve sown the seed.
  9. On the ball, with the benefit of foresight, I asked a question on the very subject of TheQ’s post at last weeks quiz...
  10. Sorry for the slight delay, last weeks quiz q&a's...
  11. North Walsham also has woeful DAB reception, they spent on an upgrade a few years back with a media release, still non existent, mine is in the shed in a box, think we’ll still have fm mw lw for a good few years.
  12. Lidl in North Walsham is poor on EE, their WiFi is weak too, for those who don’t know where it is situated in town it is immediately next door to the bt telephone exchange, I’m not kiddling you!
  13. I think all Johnson’s craft were wood but could be wrong. Not sure if they were built there or bought in. If the latter it might fit with the car becoming king and proximity to a train station not being a thing.
  14. Johnson’s at Waxham Bridge.
  15. What is the cruiser behind the Aston? A Santa something from Harvey Eastwood?
  16. Q&A should be doable PG, might struggle to recall any of the clues though 🤔
  17. I know I’ve jested in the past about speed camera van conversions but seeing Cals figures and the lead in time I can understand why folk would choose to go down the diy route and not just for the fun of free overnight stays in lay-bys and slowing traffic down!
  18. No business would ever pay the ransom. Bit of disruption whilst setting up again from scratch and a few more precautions to hopefully avoid a repeat. There’s a whole industry ready and waiting to prevent such a thing happening again, scary sharks with no teeth in reality though, scary when you’re an employee and it happens, got the t shirt.
  19. Topcraft... sure there were others as well at OB
  20. There is support for non bricks and mortar forms of housing, travellers sites for example. And bricks and mortar housing sometimes creates issues for people who struggle with that form. Waterborne housing does seem to be acceptable in other parts of the country and certainly across the North Sea in Holland for example. An opportunity missed in Norwich if you want to apply criteria around transport services, amenity etc. Not political but bricks and mortar alone won’t solve homelessness, I know people who have made do with a van and made it work, seems like a boat is in a bit of goldfish bowl locally, more focus on liveaboards than the homeless...
  21. They’re not completely gone though Wussername, folk remember the boat names, memories of holidays, photos. I had one up my sleeve last night for a quiz clue just in case where a Krayfish came to pass gleaned an empty response.
  22. Thanks to the competitors this evening, great banter use of the grey matter! Results: Joint 3rd Niko & Polly 2nd Bern 1st SteveO Subject to signal the quiz may be broadcast live from Horning next week!
  23. Hi folks, Just a reminder of where to access tonight's quiz via the link below. And a heads up on the round topics, which are: 1. Royal Norfolk 2. Inventors with links to Norfolk (however tenuous!) 3. Rivers [interval] 4. Norfolk sportsfolk 5. Norfolk landmarks and finally to cool down, as it might be hot in the chat room 6. Criminals in Norfolk Don't groan in the heat (I have clues as well lol) See you in half an hour or so hopefully, broadsband permitting! https://www.nbnplus.co.uk/chat/
