  1. Why is the grant cycle out of sync with annual financial budgeting. Or is it a matter of poor communication between PSB’s? If so why?
  2. When I lived in the big smoke (Norwich) and I first got a DAB radio it was amazing, loads of channels, Future community radio etc. Traffic news was great to get the full picture of roadworks nationwide. Then moved to a valley behind Cromer ridge; no go and back in the box for a few years. Moved to North Walsham, tried again, hopeless but then read that the infrastructure was being upgraded to improve the signal. If it has happened it didn’t make any difference when I got it out of the box recently. TBH I don’t mind a bit of hiss or noises that sound like space beings trying to make contact, I’ll stick with analogue!
  3. Interesting. So, over the summer repairs at night. How does that bode for 3rr competitors who don’t transit in daylight?

Sadly no photo I’m afraid Ray, shame as I recall she was dressed up a bit to get in the spirit of the impending session at the ship once the rats arrived in the minibus laid on by Woodfordes, Folkstone Light had all the bunting on too strung up over the roof etc.

They were around last year and seem to have a website still. Definitely part of the broads entertainment itinerary, seems to me they've been around for donkeys years, my first memory was around the late 80's but they go back way further than that. On arrival at Reedham with veg prepared I noticed a fan boat "Sir Oasis of the River" lol

I love Bleydon at all times of the year, yes deliberately misspelt (not the first time) as a “reedman argument” nod to Blaydon races whereby I actually like to do the opposite and take my time on a crossing especially to see the wildlife on the mudflats. Having done the crossing in early March before it was pleasantly calm and surprising to see other boats, the Hampton from Sandersons and a big former richos woodie on the occasion abut 20 years ago. In terms of worst crossing experience that was in late August when a motor boat sped past creating a 3 foot wash, not comfortable with my yacht towing another yacht alongside, all lead weight stowed below in advance or I think we’d have bust a mast or two. Crewed Folkstone Light (‘Harbour on the dash engraving) round from Upton to Reedham once for the Water Rats (I was chief potato peeler looking out from the galley) on a falling tide... we turned into the Yare, accelerated to full chat and slowed to about one mile an hour lol but it did punch it (just)! Loving your log ‘Nog!
  8. Yes to classic rope, hemp if you can get it although it might be scarce these days, a sailmaker told me twenty or more years ago that it was fast becoming unobtainable “because all them young beggars burn it”, pyropemaniacs obviously. Biodegradable in its natural form so a green tick in the box to boot too!
  9. Just seen the birds eye view of the explosion, trust the bits of steel flung up were part of the barricade but it did make me wonder how the quay heading has fared. Still, no one hurt was the key outcome and patience and skill admirable.
  10. The Martham half deckers from the mould that was taken off her sail brilliantly especially when it’s blowing old boots! The new owner will have a fine boat which will give a lot of pleasure.
  11. Confusing article on the BBC, “Bomb disposal teams remained at the site on Wednesday”.
  12. I’d heard the weed was bad, which Broad is that? 🐸
  13. I was on a bike ride out Freethorpe way and headed up Wickhampton towards Halvergate then hung a left at the end. Car screeched up beside me “do you know where the church is?”. Yes, turn right up there thinking it was Tunstall church they were heading for. Carried on my bike ride then realised my error as I wheeled past St Peters and St Paul’s with the bride disappearing into the porch on her fathers arm. I pedalled a bit faster but to be fair they never said which church exactly, even though we were in Halvergate when the question arose... hope they had a good laugh about it over breakfast!
  14. Just noticed an edp article re the launching of the replica wherry Newun on the North Walsham-Dilham canal, great to see that it will be working to restore the navigation and with the blessing of section owners linking up with the Ant. Would be great to think that the opportunity to cruise up to East Ruston or even Honing staithe is possibly not lighter years away. Also rip Laurie Ashton whom I only found out from this article has recently passed away, a stalwart dedicated to the canal and former broads businessman, may the causes unite on earth as they have undoubtedly in heaven! https://www.edp24.co.uk/news/23259905.norfolk-wherry-newun-launched-north-walsham-dilham-canal/
  15. Not a surprise given its densely populated compared to the Norfolk Broads, the real surprise would be if anyone can pinpoint previous grant funded regeneration projects executed in GY which either met the predicated ambition or are indeed really noticeable (without being pointed out). Outer Harbour? The cynic in me says the money will get spent (offered/grabbed) but it won't make a measurable difference to many folk, and no one will notice it a year or two down the line, expect perhaps a few who may gain significantly. Appreciate this is bordering on political so for the avoidance of doubt I've no sway on that front.
  16. Any funding would most likely be a drop in the North Sea, not enough people live here and it seems to be doled out on a per capita basis, that said if pigs flew and the sea level were to drop as a result...
  17. One I caught in Thurne circa 20 years ago, not intentionally but the little chunk of its wing missing is where it collided with and hooked my windscreen wiper, fortunately it wasn’t raining. Sadly it was unable to take flight again though and so it came to pass to my collection of curios, great for the little ones to take into school on wildlife day, does scare some people even in its embalmed state. Seems to fit mm’s description (almost to the millimetre).
  18. Great menu, just the ticket for the rail alers as well as those visiting by water.
  19. Turn around outside Woods. The 3 rivers race will have to transit Ludham Bridge instead with the buoy on Barton ☠️
  20. The buses are not running over Potter Bridge until 14th April according to alert on Sanders website. The NDR closure on the Coltishall Road makes for a bit of a bus detour but at £2 each way I can live with it. Wroxham sounds like it needs that bypass from 30 years ago!
  21. I’m still wearing a mask, not had Covid as far as I know nor a cold for about 4 years nor flu for as long as I can remember. The mask helps a lot with getting through the shops quicker as the other customers seem to run away from any aisle I’m headed down!
  22. Excellent quiz Mike, great questions and answers, entertaining night all rounds!
  23. Doggie Diner on Mount Street is also human friendly, but I guess the punters would think you are barking’ if not accompanied by a hound or two! You picked a nice day, dry and mild and not too busy. Fifteen degrees when I was driving not too many miles away. Enjoy the rest of your voyage.
  24. Wasn’t it just, remember going one September when they held the beer festival there, just as well as the weather wouldn’t have cut it on the quay. A bunch of work colleagues used to ride out on the train from Norwich at my instigation as a ‘warm up’ for the Norwich beer festival the month following which I’ve never actually attended, they’d always forgotten by the following year though when the email went round!
  25. Bridge Inn at Potter. Always bustling with happy holiday makers in season and a good local crowd too with some living on their boats and others a stroll away from a shed on the riverbank. Broadshaven seemed to do more trade when there was competition directly opposite, and the cringles was still going then too, plus you had and still have the Falgate. I’m too young but I wonder what it was like when you had the Railway as well, that would have knitted in as my last call on the way back to Hickling the back road way! On my push bike.
