  1. Here's a question for you all, is Nanni pronounced "Nanny" or "Narrni"?? Over to you...
  2. Hi folks, I was just idley day dreaming about boats and came to realise that of all "our" ones(hire and owned) we know the whereabouts or final ending of all but one.....Pamelena Bee reg N430. She was hired by my family back in the 70's(before I was born) and is often part of the Broads stories told by them. Her history on the database ends in 2000 but I wonder if anyone knows what happened to her? http://www.broads.org.uk/wiki2018/index.php?title=Boat_Details&BoatId=5663&BoatHistory=9118
  3. The folks' AF35(Bourne type hull) was repatriated from Jones Boatyard(Great Ouse?) just before the first lock down where she had been since 2000. She is an ex Broom hire boat!
  4. I have had them fly along the river in front of me for quite some distance whilst travelling up the Ant above Barton Broad on a couple of occasions, that general area seems good to see them.
  5. Isn't that the former Hoseasons building?
  6. Oh yes, should have said, placing the unit as high as possible in the boat usually makes for the best reception, it's the main reason I got a mifi, the ability to place the unit for best signal then wifi your device to it.
  7. "Smarty" do some pretty good sim only deals that may be worth a look to see if they suit your needs and they use the Three network so coverage is pretty decent. I have a Three sim and I find coverage is decent(I stream YouTube videos etc) in most places except my home mooring(typical). My parents use a Smarty sim and coverage is the same. We both just use the Mifi as it is with no additional aerial but we leave them plugged in to USB as battery life is pretty poor. Not sure what the exact model number is(its a few years old anyway) but here is my folks one.
  8. At Ranworth, are you aware of the car park that is located down the lane/road(Farm Lane) just past the shop on the right hand side? Not huuuge but space for quite a few motors.
  9. You could give Wayford Marine a try, they have both hard standing and floating moorings.
  10. I think it depends on the exact set up and type of the split charge system fitted to your boat. There are different types of relay and ways of connecting them up. Janet Anne is right about a traditional relay only energising when engine is running(or more likely when ignition is on) but there are other types which engerise when they sense a high enough voltage and also diode splitters which are just passive and work at all times. The way your current system is wired up will also have a bearing on where you would need to connect the solar panels to in order to make it all work, just going straight to the starter battery might not be effective. When I fit a solar panel to my boat I will likely just connect to the domestic bank as my starter battery has nothing draining it unless it's cranking the engine but that may not be the case on all boats.
  11. Is it just me or does the "Powles" forward superstructure/roof line have a touch of the "Star Supremes" about it? *Edit* Just looked at the Database and I think it could be a(modified) Star Victor!(later called Monaco) http://www.broads.org.uk/wiki2018/index.php?title=Boat_Details&BoatId=3269&BoatHistory=3868
  12. Oh, you're right, it only says "reduced" on the main page, my mistake. Actually I can't see it at all now, must've been an old page on my browser, I must refresh before doing a link next time.
  13. Im guessing you have seen this one but just in case you haven't.., https://www.norfolkboatsales.co.uk/inventory/?post=9270
  14. I seem to recall that under 23ft often doesn't require a survey for fully comp. And now that I think about it my 25ft Safari only needed a "self survey" form filling in. I'm with Alan Boswell, a local broker who have great Broads knowledge. Of course things might have changed but thought I'd mention the above.(I have a feeling there was a thread last year about all this but can't recall the details).
  15. Didn't you get one of these at least? Also posting to see what occurs.....
  16. One of the Star Supremes has popped up on Ebay, not sure what system she is on but appears not to be the Broads. I suspect she is N°2, latterly called "Gotcha" on the Database.(windows and green antifoul are the clues). I recall seeing her at Waterside, Potter a few years ago. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Jack-Powles-star-supreme-circa-1966-/265208635310?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286
  17. If you haven't already I would recommend having a look on YouTube at some of the videos covering GRP work, I have found them to be very helpful with my own boat.
  18. My folks have a Bourne hulled AF35 which has a Perkins 4108 with 2:1 gear box. The original prop was 16.5x11 and the plaque on the dash gives the following revs/speeds...... 1000 = 3mph. 1500= 5mph. 2300= 7mph. The boat now has a 17 x 16 prop fitted and it is really over propped IMO, it will only rev to about 1800 or so flat out and is quite slow to respond to the throttle when mooring up etc. It even stalled the engine when going astern on one occasion(not helped by the throttle linkage reducing revs on initial movement). On the plus side, once underway above 4 mph the engine is nice and quiet but below that it tends to grumble along and you often need to pop in and out of gear when following very slow stuff etc which I find to be a pain. I've never noted exact revs to speeds as I use GPS and it's always different depending on the tide but revs are greatly reduced. Hope that adds some colour to your conundrum
  19. Hiya LondonGuy, the Generator being under the bed is pretty much 'par for the course' on a boat, engines, pumps, batteries, chargers etc etc etc all have to go somewhere The engine on my own boat is under the main saloon seating area which is also a bed if you want it. There is a lot of woodwork missing at the moment but this will give you a flavour..... It's the blue thing, bottom right(in case you aren't familiar).
  20. I was told this story by some crane operators(hired in - a Norwich firm but forget the name) on winter lift out day at a yard by Wayford Bridge. The crane guys had been boat builders/engineers at Moonraker(among others) in the 70's and had plenty of stories from the time which had me fascinated, the world certainly seems different nowadays! The boats going across to France apparently would have boards put up in the front wells to keep the spray out and "you had to pick your weather" and go for it! Fun times it would seem!
  21. Lovely to see a nice diverse fleet developing Clive, bit like the smaller yards of old, keeps things interesting for the nerdy boat spotters among us.
  22. Hi JF, we've used Jeckells a couple of times for canopy/covers and upholstery and always had a positive experience. If you can wait then their winter discount scheme makes for a pretty decent saving too.
  23. There is another Horizon 35 with the name Fleur d'Azur on the Broads, I assume a sister of the one above. That Safari looks pretty high in the water to me, a project perhaps?
