  1. We(Dad and myself) have many years experience between us(not that we are experts) but have only used a thruster on one brief hire a couple of years ago; we both thought it excellent, very handy when manouvering in Herbert Woods yard, great for leaving a side on mooring without having to do the pushing it off bit and equally handy for keeping the bow in line whilst reversing etc but I dont feel it's an essential item for me yet, I would choose a powered mud weight windlass first.
  2. I have one of these(bottom left), came from Amazon but I forget the brand now, does a good job and matches Saildroid pretty closely too.
  3. Now that is a toy! Lovely bit of kit Grendel, I'm not jealous at all.......
  4. Thanks for the replies folks, as it doesn't appear to be a commonly known product I think I will just use some of the Arbo butyl sealant on the places where this other stuff was and see how it goes. Cheers
  5. Time to ask the experts....... I recently removed one of the leaking windows from my Safari and stripped it down ready to refurbish/reseal etc. The black mastic that seals glass to frame had dried out and perished; this I expected and have sourced suitable sealant to rebuild with however, where the frame joins together and over any screw fixings, there was a sticky/gummy type of clear(ish) sealant or adhesive that was a real pain to remove and I can't for the life of me work out what it is and whether it was there originally or something a boatyard may have added to 'cure' leaks? There was a lot of it and it was also seemingly used to stick the rubber pieces that sit in the channels over joints etc too. Any suggestions as to what it might be would be greatfully recieved. Thanks in advance:)
  6. Further to Islanders post, here is a pretty decent guide from Jones Boatyard website... http://www.jonesboatyard.co.uk/water-systems/
  7. Used the farm moorings last week, £8 overnight as stated, doubles permitted.
  8. Interesting choice of photo used to demo an Alphacraft in the article!
  9. Not a great picture I know but I think this is Crestella not long before she was broken up. The pic is heavily zoomed, hence the poor quality.
  10. Annnd another one....... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Herbert-Woods-Broads-Cruiser-/185070380319?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0. One of Kingfishers sisters?
  11. Parents did this on their Ocean, only real issues came if you had to unexpectedly stop quickly and did so on just one engine, this resulted in going very sideways!
  12. I know of two of them, probably the same ones going by the database
  13. One for sale in Essex, looks to be a Herbert Woods Bourne 35.... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/36ft-House-boat-River-Cruiser-Motorboat-/294410807820?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0
  14. Is this the one you mean? http://www.broads.org.uk/wiki2018/index.php?title=Boat_Details&BoatId=2010&BoatHistory=2598
  15. JCB are planning on using Hydrogen in internal combustion engines for their future heavy plant stuff, there are videos on YouTube about it, perhaps it may cross over to marine applications.
  16. If going with Jeckells and you can wait, ask about their Winter Discount deal...
  17. Could it be a problem with the supply of combustible air rather than the flue/gas? Not sure on layout of these things but just a thought.
  18. According to Craig's database, 2 Great Gems were built but one was destroyed in the 80's, I saw the other one For Sale within the last year or so. There appears to have been only the one Sealord, she was off the Broads for a while as saw her For Sale elsewhere but has now returned to Horning.
  19. She had some sort of trip on the Broads before leaving, as we saw her at Stokesby back in July(after she was listed as Sold). A shame to see such a nice one leave in some ways but good luck to her new owners.
  20. Sunbird is a cut above the rest though, I thought she represented great value tbh given the specs and quality of work carried out on her, you couldn't buy a cheap one and do all that for less than the asking price, looked long n hard at her round at NYA and online but the pockets simply weren't forthcoming with the necessaries(a common issue of mine).
  21. My folks saw the Wind boat there the other week and knew the reg number and name so I looked at the pics a little closer and you can see a reg number board up in the starboard cockpit window..... .....a quick check online shows that the boat has actually got a valid toll for this season.
  22. Ah, sorry my mistake, here in my corner of the motor trade we say Earth or Ground rather than negative but I take the point and will use negative on boats in future
  23. Do you have a picture of the switch? Show the terminals on it if possible as there are different types. As already said you only need to switch either the live or the earth not both(I would do the live personally). I would imagine that most boatyards could tackle this for you btw.
  24. She is the Six of Hearts, been on ApolloDuck for a while now, glad someone has taken her on
