  1. Bank of england or russian mafia?
  2. All wrong I'm afraid, apply the robber pin, phone the hotline to be stuck in a menu system for 30 minutes, wait 3 days for a call back, get given a crime number, and then work out how to get the copper pin out, by then someone will have nicked the handle and used it on ebay as part of a scam. That's more realistic. Or... shout loudly that the pin looks to be copper, wait for 3 blokes to arrive in a transit van with a dubious accent, get a new copper pin as the old one will have been weighed in, any other type of copper won't be interested (but you might get given a crime number).
  3. By ducking... Oops that was uncalled for wasn't it, sorry.
  4. And just to show why the RNLI should be supported, with a local link. https://www.eadt.co.uk/news/aldeburgh-two-rescued-from-sinking-boat-8565070 The partial failure of the liferaft sounds a bit scary.
  5. My reaction was just fuzzy head, tired, and a headache, I had one day off as I was scratching around for things to do at work, if I'd been busy I'd have gone in, nowt worse that feeling crap with nothing to keep you occupied. In the pub the landlord just felt tired and fuzzy while the landlady did the full shivers thing (couldn't be man-flu so must have been bird-flu) but still carried on. It's only a 48 hour thing at most so nowt to worry about.
  6. Many years ago a bike group I was with used a country pub for parties and rallies that had that policy literally, rules were often serve yourself after 2.30am because we're going to bed and take your boots off if you are going to sleep on the pool table, the bar was often littered with sleeping bags in the morning. Never any trouble and always good beer sales, those were the days...
  7. Don't plan much for the weekend, that combination can be a bit of a headbanger it seems, short term and worth it though. My local pub landlord and landlady made the mistake of booking theirs for last friday morning and regretted it, in that job a monday morning makes much more sense. The first part of that line suggests it's doing it's job to me.
  8. That is where a gps speedo lets you down, the speed limit is often way too much past moored boats when against the tide and sometimes gives barely any control running with the tide in certain areas. But of course the rangers use speed guns so speed over ground is the rule, although excess wash is also a rule. As black and white as a grey thing really.
  9. 11 is ok for a week night, my habits are very similar to yours by the sound of it, I have had cans go out of date on the boat and at home (lockdowns excluded).
  10. That's a good sign, especially on a weekday. What time was not too early?
  11. I've done it in the dark in fog, that was with plotter and radar, the posts are bang on position on the garmin topo maps and work nicely in my plotter. If you have an android tablet why not use MMtracker with the broads 1:25k mapping and have full offline mapping, I have the files for setup and map if required.

Do they eat maggotts then? Oh bungs, sorry thought you meant something else....
  13. When we vivited in summer Ian the food was 10x better than it had been for the last few years, Maria and Richard only took it on this year, up till then it was one of the b&b owners that had the lease and had various people managing it with a poor choice (or lack of control of) of staff, young girls too glued to phones to serve and ready to close at 10.00, it was such a change in summer with no sight of a phone behind the bar at all and good service, it is well worth another go. We did have to make a point of congratulating Maria on the phones thing as it stood out that much to us. Reedham had got so disappointing up till then with the nelson shutting the kitchen at random and very mediocre grub coming out when it was open and the ferry shutting middle of a weekend afternoon (even bank holidays) and early in the evenings, it's worth stopping again now. Unfortunately the bar blocking thing is often the sign of a pub used by locals not just visitors who tend to take a table, they usually part to the phrase "room for a little un" (if that don't work mutter about failing a lateral flow test again...) and after the first round I found each time I got near the bar the nod of "same again?" came fairly quickly from the staff.
  14. Cantley reedcutter and surlingham ferryhouse has spots for motorhomes too nowadays.
  15. They can't all be that strange.... Oh yes they can can't they. I can think of names but won't go there.
  16. That's gotta be a variant, have you isolated it?
  17. He'll be the strange looking short one after ten o'clock if he hasn't changed.
  18. Reedham ferry has always been way too early if open at all, Pete is probably still drinking in the ship, if he is tell him Dave & Alison say hi.
  19. Most of the benefits of bio-fuel are probably offset by the people changing their tyres for winter, do normal people do that any more? (said the bloke in one of the flattest counties).
  20. I found it far more entertaining sitting in the pub doing quality control checks on the beer (repeatedly) in a mindset of not giving a [insert word here] than actually bothering to watch it.
  21. Check out the ship at reedham, Maria & Richard have been doing a good job of making it a pub again (that is actually open in normal times) and well worthy of support. I've even heard good things about steak pie which is a long time coming after Pete's legendary offerings. As a disclaimer we've not been there since summer due to circumstances.
  22. I hope you realise it's a legal requirement for a rosy lee's brekkie when in loddon, she will deliver to your boat too but if the weather is kind she has a garden beside the staithe car park hidden away. Can't remember what days she's shut though.
  23. The swan is quite good on beer prices these days but the food looked a bit fancy for my simple tastes, I like pub grub. I've only made it in the angel once (a few years ago) and it was like a creche at the time so we didn't last long as I'm allergic to screaming brats.
