  1. As someone that builds engines for a living I had to take the handbook out of our van into the carshop next door and point in a "what the flip" manor to get oil for a top up the other day, a nice simple mineral/semi-synth/synth and grade was so easy. We just use a straight 80 (aero grades seem to just double the number) mineral gloop in the stuff we run and hand mix an inhibitor with it or W80 for turbo'd engines.
  2. That's langstone harbour after southern water have had a rain storm....
  3. In fairness most hermes and amazon drivers seem to do that at every delivery.
  4. Anytime I need a weather forecast faceache will not be where I look.
  5. I'd stop there if I were you, that's more than enough wood to have to look after!
  6. Good luck Carole, I'm on second attempt of a double hernia op on the 30th, hopefully they'll have a surgeon free this time.
  7. The pontoons have the advantage that if a mooring lease expires or gets overpriced you can move the pontoons elsewhere whereas bank works are lost money once the mooring is lost.
  8. I found my samsung annoying till I used nova launcher on it to get away from the samsung UI, the last phone was nearly pure android and I preferred that and would still use it if the screen hadn't given up (can't get a replacement), now my samsung is rooted with a stripped down version lacking all the bloatware and it's much better.
  9. I use mini-tool partition wizard and clone rather than re-installing for a ssd swap, the version before v12 has disk copy in the free version and works for most partition formats. I think I still have the version 11 setup file saved somewhere.
  10. Win10 is better with the classic start menu back in place http://www.classicshell.net/ But I still preferred win7 and in no rush for 11.
  11. I usually upgrade when the company upgrades, the old ones that can be blagged are plenty quick enough once all the company domain crud is taken off, last new work pc I got the first thing I did was to clone the ssd to another spare hdd and do a factory reset on the cloned hdd so when it next gets changed there is a fresh install free of crud ready to clone back across, of course my guvnor don't know this.....
  12. For boot time the ssd will make a big difference.
  13. All the best in achieving your goals Timbo and most importantly thanks! Good luck Mark with the crapstorm task you have stepped up to. And as for Grendel staying as chief moderator, I guess I'll be keeping the naughty step warm for a while longer then.... Good luck and thanks to all involved.
  14. On rivers with locks crush injuries from legs over the side must be one of the biggest hazards, way more likely than drowning. Of course theres no weight to a boat as it will move with a slight push, but 6 ton of momentum against a solid stone edge (or another 6 ton boat) will do some horrific injuries.
  15. In which case we should ban boats, swimming is far more natural than boating. But they are a PITA and at serious risk on the busy and narrow sections.
  16. I've always picked it up at jones boat yard at st.ives as it's local to me, comes up cheaper than regular anti-freeze to, they claim you can use it in your water tank but I'm not that brave.
  17. The batteries on my boat at the moment are all genuine oem BMW batteries, a mate worked for a dealership and they always checked the batteries before releasing the cars but of course they had done short runs from production line to compound, compound to transporter, transporter to compound and probably lots more of the same before getting to a PDI bay so the batteries came up bad lots of the time, had they been charged first they'd have been fine. So 4x 90Ah AGM batteries retailing for around £350 each for nowt was well worth bunging a £20 note to the guy sending them to scrap, all had manufacture dates embossed on the terminal posts and all within 6 months old. Unfortunately he no longer works there as he retired, inconsiderate git...
  18. I don't have leccy at my mooring, all I do for a normal winter is leave taps open with pump off, mix freezeban 50/50 with water and pour into weed strainers (open strainer with seacock open to drop water out then turn seacock off before pouring mix in), run till strainer empties then pour a bit more in till gone and shut down engines, job done. Freezeban in non toxic so better to use than regular anti-freeze as it ends up in the river via the exhaust. I have a solar panel inside the glass hatch that powers a pc case fan in one of the roof vents to give active airflow when the sun shines, if leaving for any length of time instead of the usual 2 weeks I'll lift the bed cushions and leave a better gap under. Other than that the soft furnishings stay onboard, I always leave it with all seacocks closed and isolators off and carpet stuffed into bog door to keep it open, also leave fridge door open to stop mildew growing inside. I like to be able to use the boat at any time so it only takes a few minutes to re-commision and probably less than 10 minutes to re-winterise at the end of the weekend. I do have a deck shower but fitted it with tee'd valves low down so I can shut it off and drain the pipes to it, it rarely gets used so the pipes are normally empty anyway, I can drain the water tank into the bilge very easily if I want but that is only done for "beast from the east" type conditions.
  19. You won't call Robin after reading that thread, he forgets to stop replacing things. Does a superb job though.
  20. Oh yes, they go into the bowl in the pub in the evening, choose carefully....
  21. So it is just the top cover at £850+!!!! That is just stupid money. But a 60hp on that boat, 'gis a go..... Must be fun on breydon.
  22. I've never run an engine to fire up my eberspacher on this boat or my last, the boat I had before that had a webasto and was outboard powered/charged, that always fired up fine too. You only need to run an engine to start a diesel heater if the batteries are either flat or knackered or the wirings is dodgy.

    Boat Parts

Not one I've ever heard of and I've done plenty of boat bits hunting, what sort of bits are you looking for? New or used?
  24. How can you do that much damage to an outboard without hurting grp?
  25. Yikes! Which casing? Is it useable as it is?
