If any would like to go on You Tube under ship/boat mishaps it make broads mishaps pall in insignificance all by component skippers/pilots. There no collision wavers at sea. John

Well done you. i couldn't see any grease? John -
There are people who think a 13amp sq pin plug and socket rapped in a plastic bag is a suitable extension lead for a boat even in a puddle when it rained over night, this often happens at the Waverny where they use the camp site posts. John

The Hydraulic steering on my boat has plastic pipes and although in ten years it hasn't failed/broken mechanically it did stop working on the top helm once when i left the mooring, reason i had not checked fluid level. every year it needed topping up but had discerning leak, previous boat had metal pipes and never needed topping up and never went wrong in twelve years BUT they were never used every day by inexperienced crew like a hire boat would. And like cars older models had power steering problems but more modern cars have very few problems, now we have electric steering again few problems.John

Hi I use a coke can inverter plugged into the 12volt sockit to run my latest ResMed, i do remove the heater/humidifier unit when on the boat as this uses more currant, in fact i dont notice much difference from it than at home. Also never had a ranger or other even at Ranworth unplug me John

Hi Vaughan it can be done, i have this on my boat the Morse only controls the revs at both helms it then has a fly by wire control for proportional forward and reverse the change over switch is on the interior front helm dash, forward to operate the lower helm at front of boat and rear for upper rear helm with a neutral position in centar, i might add i do have Hydraulic drive that makes this easier to fit. I went on a Sunseaker weeks tuition in the Mediterranean many years ago we had inboard and out drive boats to learn on each with a qualified instructor their was four to a boat after a weeks tuition half the people couldn't moor or maneuver the boats properly and as for reading a compass at night, in spit of their buying a several hundred thousand pounds of boat they were clueless one of the thirty something guy stock broker i think, demolished a pontoon commodity post, all he was interested was pushing the throttle wide open just like he did in his Ferrari, so what chance has a new hirer in 45mins going to be able to do? SAFETY is the most important thing you are only going to achieve if you are lucky. John

By removing the disused metal rail bridge then jack up the road bridge (it only rests on the flood wall) would remove many of the problems at the yacht station along with a unsightly rusty mess. John

Hi Simon the pressure vessal is userly red or blue in colour and is fitted after the pump in the supply hose connected by a tee piece on the top you have a valve the same as a car Tyre valve on your car, depress the pin to let out air and pump in air to increase pressure you can use a car pressure gauge to check the pressure, think car Tyre. A good plan is to get a a4 size folder with plastic leafs so you can make diagrams, info etc when you come across these, also a fuse diagram is very helpful along with a wiring diagram with cable colours. doing it now while you can see, bend and remember what previous owner told you, and before everything fades, along with your memory. John

Hi Simon first check that the air pipe to the top of the tank is clear and the gause mesh on outside of the hull fitting is clear, then follow the pipe to check it hasn't been kinked and if rubber the inside of hose could be collapsed replace with plastic water hose. Then ditto what Vaughan has said. John

Hi My Brother married a German girl she said to me that she liked England because it is so free to do what you like unlike Germany that has so many rules about everything, here you use common sense there you wait for permission. I do like Germany but you can cross the road in the wrong place and get a fine. John

Steering Ram Recommendations Please
annv replied to Timbo7's topic in Technical Questions and Answers
Certainly hydraulic is the easiest to fit as you can run pipe work a lot easier with the added advantage of twin or more helms and with no maintenance required apart from checking oil level at helm and with no back lash,But !!!. John -
Beta-marine Remotorization Good Or Bad?
annv replied to CapitainFrenchy's topic in Technical Questions and Answers
Hi I do think Beta's add on's are better engineered than Nanni, as regards fuel consumption the graphs are factory test results and can only give a rough idea to actual consumption they can however give a good comparison between different engines/makes. You will only need the extra power to run 240v if cruising at the same time as generating, if however you will only generate while moored you wont need the extra power and with a smaller engine use less fuel. Steering Ram Recommendations Please
annv replied to Timbo7's topic in Technical Questions and Answers
Hi Timbo ASAP do Hydrophilic steering it makes the steering very easy there is a choice of how many turns from lock to lock you want four to five would be a good starting point , just ask them to show you how to connect the hose ends as its easy but instructions not to clear. John
