  1. It was nice to meet you to Kate hope you didn’t mind me saying hello.
  2. cant wait to follow the process on this page very interesting.
  3. The how it all started topic got me thinking as a child I’d sit on a bench at the riverside plot we owned in brundall on a Saturday afternoon watching all the hire boats going out for the week there used to be a constant stream of them making there way down hoborough dyke in brundall. these are the yards I can remember being there in the late 80s alexandra cruisers bounty boats swan craft silver line alpha craft bees boats harbour cruisers fen craft fresh water cruisers willow cruisers vip Harvey Eastwood its a shame to think that I watched all these yards close through the years with the last one being silverline recently. can people think of other yards either in brundall or else where on the network thanks
  4. My introduction to the broads is a bit different to all the others. My dad owned a mooring plot in Brundall when I was born until I was 20 so I spent many weekends in my rowing boat rowing exploring brundall and bargate broad i would just go off for hours at a time. The rowing boat turned in to a day boat so we could explore Norwich and reedham and London regular. Then the day boat turned in to a 35ft broom so more exploring eventually he got tired of the same bit of river and sold everything up !!and moved the boat to Ipswich on the Orwell its my ambition to this day to own a boat on the broads would like a Hampton Safari ( oh if only we still had that mooring plot !! ) roy
  5. I agree with you Kate I’m a professional Gardener/ garden designer and the no mow May is so annoying as we encourage wildlife in to our gardens/ long grass for a month the wildlife gets nice and settled then they go and mow the grass killing the habitat they were in. We need wildlife in our gardens but wild flower meadows are more the way to go( sorry don’t mean to rant but people like monty don etc encourage this and its only a short term thing) roy
  6. Yes I can remember them running the berney arms very good food and service and the toy spider that was above the corner table they let down to shock people from time to time lol. Also the beuchamp arms was run by a guy called Chris I think and his wife in the early 2000s they did good food and welcome to boaters but unfortunately were only there a short time maybe the rent increase truck again.
  7. Thank you I will check before going but I don’t need any excuse to visit how hill it’s such a lovely place. Thanks
  8. Hi Kate I’m enjoying your holiday blog as usual. Do you know if ardea is at how hill all summer to view? Thanks
  9. It’s always been a dream of mine to have a boat on the broads but now I’m actually thinking owning a boat on the broads isn’t going to be such a good idea as I can only see this mooring issue getting worse maybe I should just remember the broads from when I was young in the 1980s
  10. This is not good. By the time I can afford a boat there will be no free mornings for me to use. And to lose another free morning on the Ant 😡
  11. Looks like everyone had a good time. I had intended to join you all at salhouse and cadge a lift on a boat to be part of the parade but unfortunately something cropped up so I couldn’t join you all. Hopefully next year I may even have a boat 🤣by then. Roy
  12. The weather is so unpredictable at this time of the year I’m hoping we escape the snow as my job is outside and I’ve gad a few days this winter where I couldn’t work due to ground being frozen !!! Im just enjoying the milder weather at the min.
  13. Yes it was probably mtb 102 she used to be moored at Brundall so not far away
  14. Well said considering they are grown men they should know better.
  15. Yarmouth is full of guest houses why can’t people be put up in them over night obviously if they are a safe distance away from the bomb.
  16. Thank you I must say they are a nice little boat I’ve always wanted one or a Hampton Safari. I was lucky enough to be shown around aurora a few years ago when she was tied up at wroxham the owner was thinking of selling her I was tempted but wasn’t the right time Good luck with the restoration please document it on here so I can read.
  17. Does the hull have a old reg number (wondering which one it is ) always sad to see a classic broads cruiser in that state.
  18. The boat hull up high in on picture think it’s a classic 27 looks more interesting to me 😉
  19. Will you still be mooring there when it’s £10 ?
  20. Yes when you think of it like that it’s not worth it unfortunately. If only we were back in the 60 s no health and safety etc
  21. Maybe the pub could employ someone in a small boat to ferry customers from their boat which would be mud weighed on the broad to the Staithe that way they may still retain some customers and that would show the BA 🤣
  22. Empty I hope people voice their opinions by not mooring there it’s a shame the business will suffer thou
  23. Lulu and bikertov have said exactly what I’m thinking that owning a boat on the broads is now not a viable option for me because of the cost of everything. I totally disagree with ba charging for those mornings and let’s face it next year they’ll charge for more probably wroxham and coltishal. Last year I spoke to a family who was hiring for the first time they were adamant they wouldn’t be back as they felt like the minute they moored up people were knocking at the boat wanting money his words were every one is out to skint us!!! The boat cost a fortune without all the extras. So hate to say this I can honestly see in ten years time there being just 4hire yards on the broads
  24. It seems to be a bad winter for mould as we have even had some mould in our kitchen this winter I guess it’s the damp air and all the rain we’ve had the weathers certainly making up for the dry summer now ! Hope you get your water fixed soon Roy
  25. I can’t wait to read your holiday tale I need some broads it feels like a long winter not being able to get on the broads. Lots of pictures please hope you have a good time ! Roy
